State Financial Aid Information Scholarships and Financial Aid Indiana Frank O Bannon Grant This scholarship provides Indiana residents with need-based grants for tuition and mandatory fees. Applicants must be a high school graduate, plan to attend an eligible college or university full time, plan to enroll in a course of study leading to an associate s or first bachelor s degree, and file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 10 of the academic year preceding the academic year the applicant plans to enroll. Minority Teacher Scholarship This scholarship is designed to address the critical shortage of African-American and Hispanic teachers in Indiana. Applicants must be African-American or Hispanic. Applicants must be admitted to an eligible Indiana college or university as a full-time student, pursue a course of study that would enable them to teach in an accredited Indiana elementary or secondary school, agrees in writing to apply to such school and, if hired, teach for at least 3 years, and file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Mitch Daniels Early Graduation Scholarship This scholarship is an educational benefit for students who graduate from a publicly-supported high school at least one year early. The scholarship pays $4,000 to be applied first to any remaining unpaid tuition and fees and can be used at any Division of Student Financial Aid eligible Indiana college. This is a one-time benefit and may not be renewed or used for remedial course work. For more information, contact the Division of Student Financial Aid at 1-888-528-4719. EARN Indiana The Employment Aid Readiness Network Indiana is a state work-study program that offers students with financial need access to paid internships. Full-time students from Indiana who have accepted a state financial aid award are eligible for the program. EARN Indiana works with Indiana INTERNnet to match students and employers to maximize each student's academic success and career achievement. Hoosier students who meet income criteria can enroll during their 7th- or 8th-grade year of middle school. Students commit to maintaining academic success, remaining drug and alcohol free, and completing collegepreparation activities. Scholars are provided resources and assistance to help them prepare for college and pay for expenses not covered by their scholarship. Federal Financial Aid Information The U.S. Department of Education offers student financial assistance through Pell grants, Stafford Loans, PLUS Loans, Consolidation Loans, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Work-Study and Perkins Loans. To be eligible for aid, students must demonstrate financial need, have a high school diploma or GED, plan to enroll as a regular student in an eligible program, be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen, have a valid Social Security number, make satisfactory academic progress, and sign a statement of educational purpose and a certification statement on overpayment and default. Students interested in receiving financial aid must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Forms are available through high school guidance offices, college financial aid offices or by contacting the U.S. Department of Education at 1-800-USA-LEARN. Important Definitions FAFSA: Application form for federal and state assistance must be filled out to determine aid eligibility. The FAFSA has a priority deadline of March 10. The final deadline, after which no applications will be accepted, is June 30. Grant: Financial aid that does not need to be repaid. Loan: Borrowed money which must be repaid with interest. Work-Study: Work to earn money to help pay for school. AmeriCorps AmeriCorps programs offer funds for postsecondary education in return for community service work. The funds can be used for either current educational expenses or to repay federal student loans. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program This scholarship provides up to $1,500 annually to selected Hoosier students. To be eligible, an applicant must score a minimum of 1940 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or a 29 composite score on the ACT or earn an average standard score of 620 or higher on the GED. Students must be either a senior in high school with an accumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or receive a GED in the year they are applying for the scholarship. Students must also be an Indiana resident and plan to attend college full time. Scholarships may be used to attend any approved institution in the United States and can be renewed. Applications are sent to Indiana high schools by January of each year and must be submitted by late April. It is the state's second largest public post-secondary institution with 23 campuses throughout the state. Accelerated Certified Training (ACT) is delivered by Ivy Tech Community College's Department of Workforce and Economic Development. It offers local affordable solutions for Indiana business and industry training needs. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. There are currently 24 sites that are operating around the state. All campuses are commuter campuses.
