COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF CITY UNIVERSITY CITY UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG Information on a Courses offered by Division of Business Course Title: (English) Global Supply Chain Management (Chinese) 環 球 供 應 鏈 管 理 Course Code: BUS20180 Credit Units: 3 Level: A2 Medium of Instruction: English Pre-requisites: Pre-cursors: Equivalent Courses: CM 20184 Supply Chain Management CM 20180 Global Supply Chain Management Exclusive Courses: Course Duration: One Semester Course Aims: This course aims to provide students with the basic concepts of global supply-chain management, which lay a knowledge base to understand relatively more advanced supply-chain concepts, such as supply-chain strategies, supplychain network design, planning in supply chain and so on. Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. describe the various aspects in global supply-chain concepts and strategies; 2. discuss the network design decisions and information technologies in supply chain management; 3. explain how to make effective and efficient sales and operation planning and production planning; 4. interpret the approach and steps of sourcing decisions and purchasing process; 5. interpret supply chain control process and risks in supply chain management; 6. evaluate different planning models in supply chain management to tackle real-life supply chain management problems. 1

Keyword Syllabus: (a brief description of the syllabus of the course) Global supply-chain management Conceptual understanding of Supply Chain issues in designing, planning and operating a supply chain, like: definitions, concepts and contemporary trend of global supply chain management; supply chain strategies; supply chain control. Network Design Fundamental concepts, roles and tools to design and evaluate supply chain, such as facility location, capacity and market allocation, and performance measures within a supply chain. Tools and technologies used for network design, like: performance dimensions; network design decision; information technology. Supply Chain Strategy Changing competitive environment & various supply chain strategies, like: sourcing decision and strategies; purchasing process; logistics decision models. Planning and Controlling in Supply Chain Significance of demand and supply planning planning process, and tools and technologies for controlling, like: focus on various forecasting methods; production planning; sales and operations planning; managing inventory; review system; bullwhip effect; supply chain information system; risk and control management. 3

Teaching and Learning Activities (TLAs): (designed to facilitate students achievement of the CILOs) a. Lectures focus on the explanation of various key concepts, with illustrations referring to some current Global Supply Chain Management issues and cases whenever appropriate. b. Tutorials provide students with the opportunity to apply the concepts and theories of global supply chain management to solve tutorial questions (both quantitative and qualitative). Activities may include discussion/presentation to solve and examine the real-life problems. Cases discussion or tutorial questions presentation in tutorial 10% Case study or tutorial question presentation are conducted by student teams on analysing the logistics and supply chain issue and providing suggestion for improvement. They are assessed on their understanding and application of concepts and knowledge. ii. Mid-term Test 20% A 1-1.5 hours test (multiple choice/short/eassy questions) in which studentsdemonstrate the concepts and knowledge in logistics and supply chain management. It also assesses their ability to apply knowledge gained in solving business problems. iii. Project Assignment 10% The group project assignment is designed to test students' ability in devising supply chain and evaluating supply chain values in business logistics. iv. Examination 60% A two-hour examination is designed to gauge students understanding of supply chain concepts and knowledge in logistics and supply chain management, and how to apply tools to solve business problems.
