1 G-SCOM 1 Advanced Operations Management Using the quantitative and best practice methodologies, this course will explore the management of the global operations. This module focuses on the design, planning and fulfillment processes, which encompass all strategic operations activities for factory planning and lean process design and tactical activities from the moment a business receives a customer s order until all the requirements for the order are satisfied in full. We will cover principles, models, and techniques for planning, analyzing, and controlling production, sourcing, and inventory systems as a means of managing economies of scales and environmental uncertainties with their applications in manufacturing and service industries. Special focus will be directed to innovations in operations such as Industry 4.0. Guest lectures and a facility tour may also be included. Instruction will be by a combination of lectures, case studies and numerical assignments. At the end of the course, the students will be familiar with principles and methods of operations design, planning, and deployment. This course provides students with concepts, techniques and tools to design, analyze, and improve core operational capabilities, and apply them to a broad range of application domains and industries. 2 G-SCOM 2 Global Supply Chain Management This course aims at learning and applying useful principles and analytical methods to process improvement and optimization in supply chain management. It addresses the design and management of global supply chain including global sourcing, inventory management, integration of suppliers and distribution channels. A variety of methods to design the global supply chain, to plan inventory and transportation, to calculate optimal order quantities and manage uncertainties and demand, inventory and supply, to compute optimal schedules and routes will be introduced and examined. Instruction will be by a combination of lectures, case studies and numerical assignments. At the end of the course, the students will be able to understand the major streams and developments in supply chain and how value is created in global supply chains. Another objective of this module is to familiarize students with the increasing complexity of global supply chains and the important area of supply chain risk management. We will achieve these objectives with a combination of approaches: case studies, theoretical concepts, and guest lectures by experienced managers. The students will gain a level of understanding the global supply network design, coordination and inventory management, production and logistics coordination from the strategic and operative system views. 3 G-SCOM 3 International Logistics Management The work of designing and managing global logistics systems requires managers to apply strategic, decision-making, and leadership skills in the logistics context. This course focuses on the design and analysis of global logistics systems including the components such as suppliers, warehouse, packaging and material handling, customers, production, inventory, orders, transportation, and information systems. The goal of this module is to develop and practice skills for the analysis of logistics systems as well as the strategic financial influenced by the logistics decisions. The topics it covers range from fundamental logistics concepts to the development of logistics strategies, relationships, and networks. We also consider different aspects of distribution, warehousing, and transshipment as core company elements. Instruction will be by a combination of lectures, case studies and numerical assignments. The main focus is on distribution and transportation operations, on outsourcing services by 3PL providers, and on the design of distribution systems and network. At the end of the course, the students will be familiar with principles and methods of distribution and transportation planning, management, and deployment. Using the quantitative and best practice methodologies, this course will explore the management of the distribution and transport processes in supply chains. The students will gain a level of understanding the strategic and operative decisionsmaking tools for logistics system design, warehousing and transportation. Distribution system analysis (Role in SCOM, objectives, distribution network design, green logistics und sustainable strategies) Logistical and transportation planning methods (Selected decisions, methods) Warehouse management (Basic processes in warehouse management, layout planning) Transportation system analysis (Transportation decisions, performance and optimization, transportation modes, multi-modal chains, transportation planning, vehicle routing) Case Studies (e.g., online, retail and international context) Waters, D. 4 G-SCOM 4 Supply Chain and Operations Analysis Problem-motivated introduction to methods, models and tools for the analysis and design supply chains and operations including their planning, operations and control. In this module, students will learn how to structure a real management problem and represent it as a modeling problem, construct models of the real business problems in supply chains and operations, determine the most appropriate modeling tool for decision-making to use to solve the problem, and practice using these tools to solve their problems. Lectures, computer exercises, and case discussions introduce various models and methods for supply chain and operations analysis and optimization. Students will also run computer simulations of a supply chain system, as well as learn to use commercial simulation software. At the end of the course, the students will be able to understand the major analytical methods to support decisions in global supply chains and operations and how to apply them to different practical problems with the use of contemporary software. Planning and Model-based Decision-making (planning process, models, decision-making) Systems and Networks (types of systems, system thinking, system analysis, networks) Supply Chain and Operations Complexity and Risk Management (risks, uncertainty, complexity, resilience, systems dynamics) Case Studies and Applications to Selected SCOM problems (e.g., Facility Location Planning, Inventory management, Transportation Planning, Scheduling, Vehicle Routing) (e.g., linear programming, simulation, integer programming, mixed-integer programming, systems dynamics, agent-based modelling, statistical methods for demand forecasting and inventory management) Business Simulation Game Supply Chain and Operations Simulation in Commercial Software creation of value, Springer Render et al.
