Professional design management training for design agencies The DBA has partnered with Grow to bring professional design management training, established across Europe and in the US, exclusively to UK businesses and design agencies in 2015. 02 DBA Grow for design agencies The DBA Grow programme for design agencies is focussed on the business benefits of design management, and is tailored for senior designers and design managers from agencies or in-house design teams. You can attend an open access course, or we can run the programme in-house at your agency. DBA Grow is also available for professionals and design managers within commercial businesses. The DBA Grow programme delivers a smart mix of live high-level design management training including workshop days, peer-to-peer learning and projectbased distance learning spanning a total of 40 weeks. Groups are strictly limited to 15 participants per programme to ensure a high level of engagement and interaction.
How it works 03 DBA Grow is a training programme designed for the busy professional. That s why a few things are very important to us: Intensive interaction between trainer and delegate, and between delegates. Individual coaching on assignments via Skype/FaceTime. Presentations to the group and your boss (final assignment). Real, relevant content. Tools Duration Low on theory, high on practice. Direct application to your daily role. The teaching lasts around 40 weeks in total. You ll spend around 4 hours a week on the programme, including all training sessions. This is the amount of time required for a good level of understanding and application. The content is very rich and some delegates choose to spend more time on it, but also stand to gain more. Interaction 1x one-day live introduction session. 5x two-day live training + evaluation sessions. Online coaching in between sessions. Type of training Sessions with design management experts. Discussions with experts and delegates. All content is provided via the online web application Livebook, designed for ipad. Personal web page for personal profile, training achievements and deliverables. Structure of programme Content The programme consists of 4 phases of 2.5 months Every phase starts with a live training session, covering 2 or 3 modules. After this session, you will be working on an individual and/or team assignment, online or physically together. Halfway into each phase you will have an online coaching session with the trainer. Each phase ends with an evaluation session, presenting and assessing each others work on the different modules. The content we offer covers a wide variety of design management topics, relevant for all design disciplines from product and interaction and web to graphic design, and everything in between. 07 Modules 01 - Design Management Design management is the process of managing design. This module will cover: The characteristics of this fairly new skill-set. The role agencies can play in integrating design management. 02 - Design Leadership Design leaders make great things happen in the field of design. This module will cover: Why leading is important for design and business. Distinguishing between the role of design manager and the role of design leader. 03 - Design Quality If design fulfils the objectives set, the level of design quality is right. This module will cover: How to discuss and explain design quality in an objective way. How to set objectives for design quality. How to manage design creation and execution to meet set objectives. 04 - Design Process A design process is a structural, repeatable approach to delivering design solutions within business objectives and constraints. This module will cover: How to build and adjust a design process. How to align your design process with the process at your clients business. 05 - Design Language Design languages are used to build brand recognition across all design touch points. Find out: When to execute your client s design language and when to create it yourself. How to get buy-in from management and keep the design language alive.
Modules 08 06 - Design Tools Design tools ensure repeatable results and efficient design work. This module covers: Adapting your own tools to your client s situation, and vice versa. How to refresh, update and share these tools. 07 - Design Research Research can be used to find unmet needs that can be addressed by design. Find out: How to setup and manage design research activities and outcomes. How to make sure the outcomes will be used and documented well by your client. 08 - Design Resources Managing design resources is key to achieving successful design results. How to work with and manage client s resources effectively. Work with clients to make most of their resources. 09 - Design Briefing Designers can only deliver innovative, beautiful and successful work if they are briefed well. How to ensure you have a continuous mutual understanding of what the assignment at hand is, and what outcomes can be expected. 10 - Design Presentation Presenting design can be very challenging. This module will cover: How to best present design for specific clients. How to present design management.
