What does this mean for my learner? A learner entering Grade 9 in the 2014-2015 school year and thereafter shall enroll in the courses necessary to complete the curriculum requirements for the Foundation High School Program with an endorsement plan along with the opportunity to complete the Distinguished Level of Achievement. Foundation + Endorsement = Distinguished Level of Achievement Each learner selects (in writing) an Endorsement in the spring of 2015. Learners in CISD are expected to follow the Distinguished Achievement Level *After the learner's sophomore year and only with written parent permission, a learner may decide to continue toward graduation under the Foundation High School Program without earning an endorsement.
Foundation PLUS Endorsement 26 Credits Required for Graduation Credits will include the following: 4 credits of English, Math, & Science 3-4 credits of Social Studies (depending on Endorsement) 2 credits of a Language Other Than English (same language) 1 credit of Physical Education 1 credit of Fine Arts Completion of the curriculum requirements for an Endorsement Electives to equal 26 credits
What is an endorsement? An endorsement is a coherent sequence of credits in a specific area of interest as defined by the new graduation requirements. Five Endorsements: Business and Industry Arts & Humanities Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Public Services Multidisciplinary Studies These endorsements are documented on diplomas and transcripts. Each endorsement requires a total of 26 credits for graduation.

Grade Point Average (GPA) All of the following will count in a learner s GPA: All high school classes taken for credit Any middle school classes taken for high school credit Credit by Exam and Correspondence Courses (count as an on-level class) GPA is first calculated after the first semester of 10 th grade.
Class Rank CHS ranks only the top 10%. Rank is first calculated after the first semester of 10 th grade. Ranking of the top 10% is determined by a second GPA (Rank in Class GPA) A list of classes that count toward Rank in Class (RIC) can be found in the Course Planning Guide. The symbol signifies that a course counts toward a learner s Rank in Class.

How Does My Child Choose the Right Endorsement? Ask yourself some questions: Based on my results from the StrengthsExplorer and Career Interest Profiler in Naviance, what career areas should I consider? Which subjects do I enjoy and/or am I interested in? What are my goals after high school? Which combination of courses will give me a strong foundation in the area I would like to pursue? What are the course requirements for post-high school educational institutions I am interested in?
Learners will have 7 periods each day, so 7 credits can be earned each year. Everyone will register for: - 9 th Grade Endorsement Course - English - Math - Science - Social Studies or an Elective - LOTE (Languages Other Than English) or an Elective - Elective (PE/Sport, Band, Choir, Dance, Art, Theater, Debate, etc.)

On-level Classes *solid preparation for college *delivers more repetition Honors Classes *open enrollment *more challenging *faster pace *prepares learner for AP/IB level coursework AP/IB Classes *most rigorous courses available at CHS *learners may earn college credits based on AP/IB test scores *AP course availability begins in 9 th grade *IB courses begin in 11 th grade Gifted & Talented (GT) Classes *To begin the 2015-16 school year in GT classes, learners must have previously qualified for the GT program.
