SearchEngineOptimization What is it and Why is it Important? The term SEO is being mentioned a lot lately, but not everyone is familiar with what SEO actually is. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the use of a combination of tactics and techniques with the goal of increasing your site s web traffic by gaining high rankings on search engines. In other words, you want to make sure your business is found on search engines, such as Google, so your potential consumers click on your link and explore your site. The increase in engagement you gain from optimizing your site will correlate with an increase in business, as long as your company can translate the clicks and leads into sales. As this blog is being written, the count for Google searches today is approaching the 2.9 billion marker, and it s pretty early in the day. Of the people searching, 75% of them will never scroll past the first page. Search is the number one driver of traffic to content sites, and the leads that businesses gain from SEO have are 14 times more likely to close than an outbound lead such as print advertising or direct mail. Think about this: How often do you just search for the name of the business instead of looking at their business card, flyer or poster and typing out the whole address? For many people, searching a business name, a type of business or keying in a general phrase of what they re looking for is much simpler and more convenient than typing in a whole web address. Don t let another business claim your customers just because your SEO is not up to par. Basically what all these facts and statistics are leading to is that

consumers are actively online searching for their needs and desires, and it is up to your business on whether or not your site makes it on their result list ahead of your competitors. How does it work? Crawlers, or automated SEO robots, go through all the millions of documents available through the links online and determine relevance and popularity in the site. Different search engines have their own algorithms and methods, but being that Google has a 65-70% of search engine market share, a lot of businesses trying to optimize specifically for the factors that Google uses. It is approximated that there are over 200 aspects that Google uses in its site rankings, including, but not limited to: keywords in title tags, description tags, length of content, mobile optimized site, domain trust, pages and the link relevancy, and domain factors. Although it might seem complicated, what Google is doing is simply delivering relevant content to their customers. The more relevant and helpful the content, the more users search engines obtain and keep.

How can you Improve Your SEO? We get it, SEO is crucial to your website and to your business, but how can you improve it? One of the most important ways to boost your Search Engine ranking is to post original, quality content. Google s algorithm takes into account how original is the content on your website. If you just copy and paste information from other websites, your ranking will not improve. Google needs to verify that when people search on their engine, they will find relevant, high-quality content at the top of the search results. Also, make sure you update your content frequently; doing so will keep your site relevant and will help you to get to that coveted first page of Google. Link building is another crucial piece in a successful SEO campaign. Search engines use links to crawl and index the content on webpages. Link building is when gain other site s hyperlinks to your own site. There are many different methods and ways to build links, and it is normally the most difficult and time consuming part of SEO, but building links well will lead to a definite boost in SEO. There are differences in the types of links that are created, follow and no follow for example, which have different rankings. There are different websites that are better for link building, all things that in order to

be effectively link building you must delve deeper into. Social Media presence also plays an important role in Search Engine Optimization. It is one of the many methods of link building! Original content that is shared across social media will lead to search engines recognizing your site as more relevant. For example, if many people share, post or tweet a link leading to your website, Google will view that link as having better content than a link that has not been shared or tweeted. You have to make sure that your various social media pages, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. are updated with quality content to increase the likelihood of someone sharing or reposting them.
