Since inception sixteen years ago, approximately $790,000 has been distributed to over 790 high school graduates. Every Broward County Public high and technical school is invited to select graduating seniors who are outstanding in the arts including: theatre, dance, music, visual arts and technical arts (e.g. lighting, sound, set design). Our goal is to award $1,000 scholarships to selected graduating seniors. Your assistance in promoting and communicating this scholarship program through your art, music and drama departments, BRACE counselors and guidance counselors is requested. Scholarship awards will be presented at the Stars on Parade gala celebration being held on Monday, March 7, 2016, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Amaturo Theater, 7:30 p.m. Please find attached the Arts for the Future Scholarship package. You may copy the forms as needed. The application deadline is January 8, 2016. Work samples (audiotapes, CDs, or DVDs) will not be returned to applicants. Dance Format: DVD; Length: 5 minutes maximum Label work sample with applicant s name, dance technique, and date recorded Include on the DVD: o Introduction: state your name and information about the two pieces you will perform o Provide two contrasting pieces can be original choreography by applicant or any other choreographer Selection must be cued or track clearly labeled Group performance pieces will not be accepted Theatre Format: DVD; Length: 5 minutes maximum Label work sample with applicant s name, selection(s), and date recorded Include on the DVD: o Introduction: state your name and information about the two monologues you will perform, such as title of play, author, character, etc. o Provide two contrasting monologues o Camera should be fixed and stationary with full body visibility o Filmed against a neutral background o No costumes Musical theatre applicants must replace one of the monologues with a piece that showcases signing voice and, if applicable, movement, dance, and choreography Technical theatre applicants must include pictures of their designs as well as written descriptions and a DVD showing examples of their designs in a production Selection must be cued or track clearly labeled Group performance videos cannot be accepted
Visual Art Students who apply in the area of Visual Arts must submit a CD with 2 images of their artwork in a high resolution JPEG. All images must be original and created within the past 12 months. CD s will not be returned. Clearly label visual arts work sample (CD) with student s full name, school, art media and the date created. The artist release form must be attached. Artist Release Form The School Board of Broward County shall have the right to reproduce, exhibit, and otherwise use the submitted work, in whole or in part, in any manner whatsoever in all media without limitations.
