Please remember that students are not allowed to have canned drinks or fast food in the cafeteria. LUNCH PROGRAM The School Food Service is based on prepayment of all full and reduced-priced meals. The cafeteria manager maintains a detailed record of each child s meal participation for breakfast and lunch throughout the year. The system maintains one account for each child through a special lunch number. MEAL PRICES (Elementary School) Breakfast Lunch Full Price Reduced Full Price Reduced Elementary Students $1.50 $0.30 $1.75 $0.40 Visitors $3.00 $4.00 Policies for Lunch Program: An online payment system is available for use to pay for student s meals. This service allows parents to deposit funds directly into their children s school meal account via online transactions. In addition to convenience, this system provides several other benefits to parents. To create an online payment account, please visit www.myschoolbucks.com. You can set up recurring payments with MySchoolBucks. Students may pay weekly, monthly, or annually. Payments should be sent in a sealed envelope with your child s name, lunch number, and teacher s name written clearly on the envelope. Please do not send cash. We are not responsible for money that is lost or stolen. If you must pay in cash, please do so in person in the cafeteria. Checks for lunch should be made payable to Green T. Lindon. All balances must be paid in a timely manner. If delinquent bills are not paid, then they will be turned over to a collection agency. Students will NOT be allowed to charge.

All families should submit a free lunch form to school, even if the child will not participate in the program. Please turn in these forms as soon as possible. In order for a student to participate in the free or reduced lunch plan, a new form must be processed each new school year. You may pick up an application from any school or complete the application online at www.applyforlunch.com. Families qualifying for free or reduced lunch will receive written notification from the Child Nutrition office. Families will be responsible for payment of any debt incurred before the approval of the application. COOLEST CUB Each grading period, homeroom teachers select a student to represent the class as the Coolest Cub. These students possess the following characteristics: Great personal character Goes beyond the call of duty Great academic perseverance (not limited to students who are on Principal s List or Honor Roll) Compassion Creativity Upholds the value of our school, students, and staff A happy, all-around Green T. Lindon Cub To honor these amazing students, the school will present them with a pair of GTL Coolest Cub Sunglasses and a certificate. A group picture of each grade level Coolest Cubs will be displayed in the showcase in the school lobby. These students will also be recognized at the end of the year Awards Ceremonies held in May. GRADING The parish grading scale for grades 1 through 12 is as follows: A.100 93 B..92 85 C..84 75 D..74 67 F...66 0 Student progress will be reported to parents on a nine week basis for grades K 4. Kindergarten teachers will use a non-graded format to report student progress. First grade teachers will use a percent and letter grade for Math, a letter grade for conduct, and use a non-graded format for the rest of the areas to report student progress. Teachers will be communicating directly with parents on a weekly basis when student work is sent home. Mid-term progress reports will be distributed around the mid-point of each nine week period. Policies covering all grading, promotion, and retention of students are found in the Lafayette Parish School System Pupil Progression Plan. Any parent wishing to review the plan may contact the administration. HOMEWORK Students are expected to do all homework assignments every day. Homework assignments may be weighted 1/5 of the total nine weeks grade in elementary schools. Homework assignments may be graded at the discretion of the classroom teacher.

Parents can monitor and encourage proper homework habits by checking the student planner on a daily basis. All students are required to read at least 20 minutes each night. While this is the responsibility of the child, we ask that parents support this effort by providing a routine time and place for reading. Students are also required to complete a school-wide reading response journal (Grades K to 4 th ) from the directions of the classroom teacher. Signed Papers: Class work, tests, etc. will be sent home every Tuesday by the classroom teacher. The work is to be reviewed and signed by a parent and returned to school the next day. Parents will be informed in writing if there are any variations to this policy. MEDICATION Medication will be administered at school only when a licensed physician or dentist certifies in writing that it is necessary for medication to be administered during school hours. **Parents must make an appointment with the school nurse at the beginning of each school year for the school personnel to administer medication. Some of the district policies are listed below. Please refer to the Lafayette Parish School System handbook for further information. The parent or guardian must provide written authorization on the form approved by the Lafayette Parish School System in order to comply with the physician s request. Please refer to Appendix B for a copy of this form. The medication MUST be labeled by the pharmacist with the patient s name, type of medication, strength, dosage, and directions for administration. The medication MUST be brought to school by a legal guardian. No student will be allowed to have any type of medication, whether prescription, over-the-counter, or other, in their possession on the school grounds or on the school bus. Any student violating this policy will be subject to disciplinary action. Medication is administered by the principal s trained designee and recorded on the medication log when administered. Medication will be administered at the same time each day unless there are extenuating circumstances, and approved by the school administrator and parish nursing supervisor. Medication is kept in a secure, locked, central location. Special arrangements will be made for administering medication to students attending field trips. New medication forms MUST be filled out at the beginning of each new school year or when there is a change in medication. (Medication forms are available at school.) PARKING Parents and visitors are asked to park in the front circle, as space permits. Other visitor parking is permitted in Foster Park. Visitors are not allowed to park in the teacher s parking lot, designated parking spots, double park, or block gates or emergency lanes. Notices will be given to visitors that violate this policy and information will be forwarded to the Youngsville Police Department. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and patience with our parking. PRINCIPAL S LIST AND HONOR ROLL Principal s List Students must maintain A s and E s in all subject areas and conduct on the report card to be eligible for the Principal s list. Honor Roll Students must maintain all A s and B s in all subject areas and conduct on their report card to be eligible for the Honor Roll. N s and U s are not acceptable. SAFE SCHOOLS At Green T. Lindon Elementary, we care about the safety and well-being of every student. For this reason, we will enforce and implement safe school practices that include the following components: Campus monitoring of all visitors. All visitors are required to enter campus through the office area. All visitors MUST sign in with the office staff and receive a visitor s pass. Rear entrances are used by official school staff only. Crisis Response Plan Lafayette Parish School System has approved a parish-wide plan for managing situations which threaten the health and safety of our students and fellow employees. Evacuation Plan An evacuation route will be assigned to all classes. Each class will practice evacuation plans on a monthly basis. Student Emergency Procedures If a student is injured at school, the injury is to be reported to the duty teacher, secretary, or administration. In the case of a serious accident, parents will be informed immediately and given the opportunity to check the injury. If a parent or other designated person cannot be reached, the school may contact an emergency response agency. Student Monitoring Students MUST have their teacher s permission to leave the classroom. Students MUST have an office, phone, or bathroom pass at all times. Violence Prevention Policies Violent and/or inappropriate behavior will NOT be tolerated by any student, parent, or visitor on our campus. The Lafayette Parish School System has a zero tolerance policy relative to violent and endangering behavior. The administration will follow the appropriate disciplinary procedures for violent acts committed by students. The local law enforcement agency will be contacted for violent or inappropriate acts committed or threatened by adults on our campus. SCHOOL PARTIES Holiday Party Grades K 4 Valentine s Day Grades K 4 Spring/Easter Party Grades PK-K only Birthday parties are NOT permitted during the school day. Students will be expected to address all adults with respect. Please refer to the 2014-2015 Lafayette Parish School System Student-Parent Handbook (Discipline Policy) for guidelines in the discipline process, which apply to all disciplinary infractions. PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) Green T. Lindon Elementary School adopts the following clearly defined behavioral expectations in these five basic rules. (Keep them simple and positive, e.g., "Keep your hands to yourself. "Respect others." "Be kind.") 1. Care about others. 2. Use good manners.

3. Be responsible and safe. 4. Show school spirit. These rules shall be posted in prominent places around the school site, e.g., hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and classrooms. These rules are provided to parents (listed below) and shall be known by all students and school staff. Each teacher at Green T. Lindon Elementary School shall develop lesson plans and teach expectations across each school setting by providing direct instruction on expected behaviors at the beginning of the school year and reinforced throughout the year for all students. School Visitations Upon arrival to campus, all visitors must report to the Office. Approved visitors will be given a visitor s pass that must be worn while on campus. We ask that visitors only enter the school using the front door entrance. SUPPORT PROGRAMS The following services are available for all students. Please let us know if you feel your child would benefit from any of the following services. School Counselor Special Education (gifted, speech therapy, resource, etc.) School Nurse Services under the provisions of Section 504 School Social Worker TELEPHONE USE Students will not be called from class to use the phone unless there is a family emergency. Students must have permission from their classroom teacher and/or the administrator or designee before using the telephone. Students will NOT be permitted to call home for forgotten supplies, homework, spirit shirts, etc. As part of our character education program, we are encouraging our students to learn responsibility. TRANSPORTATION Bus transportation is available to all students. The bus driver, together with the administration, will assume full responsibility for the management of students riding buses. Rules and regulations must be followed by all students who ride the bus. Bus drivers will send home a rules sheet that must be signed and returned by parents in order for the child to ride the bus. The safety of all students is the priority of the driver while transporting students to and from school. See the LPSS Student Handbook for specific district bus policies. Please remember that it is a privilege for students to ride the bus, not a right, and the consequences of misconduct could result in the denial of transportation. A student can be suspended from riding the bus permanently due to inappropriate behavior or actions. Students who damage the interior or exterior of the school bus will be responsible for the cost of damages and may face suspension from school and/or the bus. Parents are encouraged to resolve bus problems by first contacting the bus driver who has the primary responsibility for safe transportation and maintaining order on the bus. If problems can t be resolved between the parent and the bus driver, then the administration may become involved. All bus drivers report directly to the Supervisor of Transportation. Change of Transportation If it is necessary to change the way a child normally goes home, parents are required to send a note to the child s teacher. Phone calls will not be accepted for changes in transportation. You MUST provide written documentation, with a parent/guardian signature for a change in transportation. Car Rider Procedures Parents of car riders will NOT be allowed to come into the school building and walk students to cars. If a child is a car rider, then a parent or guardian MUST wait in the car rider line. Parents checking out their children before bell time will be allowed to walk students to their vehicles. However, early check outs without a doctor s excuse count toward truancy.

Morning Car Line: In the morning, buses drop students off in the front of the school. The cars are expected to enter the park from 2 nd Street, drive through the park to the back fence of the school, and form a line. It should be a single file line from the back fence to 4 th Street (by the police station). If you arrive early for the car line and they have not started letting cars in the fence, two lines will form on the other side of 4 th Street and continue through the park as needed. At 7:25, when the cars begin moving, the double lanes should MERGE as they approach 4 th Street and form a single line of cars through the fence. Drive your car beside the covered sidewalk as far as possible letting your child out of the car. So we can ensure the maximum number of children are exiting vehicles at one time. Have your child sit in the backseat, behind the driver, ready to safely exit the car with their backpacks on their backs and all other necessary belongings in their hands. The duty teachers will assist you if further explanation is needed. At 7:25, when the car line begins, the street that runs beside the cafeteria into the teacher parking lot becomes a one way leaving the school. Teachers who arrive at school after 7:25 will enter the parking lot through the same back fence as the car line. TEACHERS ONLY will be allowed to pass down 4 th Street and should be let in the car line at that spot. All teachers are issued a sign indicating they are faculty at the school and have the authority to pass down 4 th Street to enter the car line. At 7:55, the tardy bell will ring. Children are supposed to be IN CLASS when this bell rings. Even if you are in line when the tardy bell rings, the duty teacher will lock the gate and you are expected to drive around to the front of the school for drop off. At this point, you must get out of your vehicle and sign your child in at the office and get them a tardy slip. If your child is tardy for school, they are not allowed to go eat breakfast. Afternoon Car Line: For Safety reasons, this year we are requiring all parents to use Green T. Lindon Car Rider Line signs. Please place this sign on the bottom right side of the front window with the name facing outward. In the event you send someone new to pick-up your child, they must have our sign with your child s name on it in the car window. If the sign is not in the car window, they will be asked to check the child out from the front office so that we can insure they are approved to remove your child from campus. In the afternoon, buses pick up children in the back of the school. Because of this, the car line needs to enter the park at 2 nd Street, drive through the park and park on the far right hand side of the street between the back fence and 4 th Street. This is to ensure the buses have enough room to pass. After 4 th Street, the car line should form two lanes of traffic to park and wait for the line to start moving. When the buses are finished loading, they will leave out of the back fence and turn left on 4 th Street. At that time, a duty teacher will flag the first car to begin the car line pick up. The cars between the back fence and 4 th Street should pull out onto the road and begin moving through the back gates of the school. The cars on the other side of 4 th Street should MERGE at 4 th Street. At this time a car from one lane should go, and then a car from the other lane should go until there is just one lane of traffic. Once the car line is moving, it is not necessary to continue with two lanes and cars should not be driving up the side of moving cars. NO ONE should enter the car line from 4 th Street. A duty teacher will call a student s name and then a number, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. The child is expected to walk behind the yellow line to the indicated number. When it is your turn to pull forward, pull up to the number where your child is standing. When the car has come to a complete stop, the duty teacher will help your child into the car. We are requesting that all car seats and other obstructions are on the passenger side of the vehicle so that your child may be put in the backseat, on the driver s side of the car. If your child is unable to strap themselves in the car, we ask that you pull off to the side, out of the way of the traffic to buckle them in. We do not want parents to get out of their cars in the car line to move items around in their backseat or buckle in their children. If the car ahead of you is taking a little longer to get moving, do not pass that car but rather wait for them to move and follow in a single line out of the gate and down the street by the cafeteria. If you arrive at school after the car line is finished, you must pick your child up from the office. WALKERS Only students who live within a one mile radius of school will be allowed to walk home. Parents who allow their children to walk to and from school must provide permission in writing to the office and to the child s

teacher. Parents are asked to discuss sidewalk safety with their children and stress the importance of following the directions of the school crossing guard at all times. Students are NOT permitted to ride bikes to school. WEBSITE Please be sure to visit our school website for up-to-date information. Parents will find a wealth of information. Simply visit www.tinyurl.com/greentlindon. SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY FOR STUDENTS It is the policy of the Lafayette Parish School Board to prohibit sexual harassment anywhere in the system and to take prompt action to investigate thoroughly and discipline any student or employee found guilty of sexual harassment. Lafayette Parish School Board shall do everything in its power to provide children attending public schools in Lafayette Parish an environment free of unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct or communications constituting sexual abuse, as defined and otherwise prohibited by state and federal law. A. DEFINITION Sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances, use of sexually suggestive language, requests for sexual favors, and/or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature by an employee to a student or a student to another student, or a non-employee engaged in business with the school system to a student. Examples of sexual harassment include quid pro quo situations wherein the acceptance or rejection of a sexual invitation is used as the basis for employment, grading, discipline, or similar decisions; and situations wherein sexual advances or requests for sexual favors have the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's work or school performance or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive school or working environment. B. POLICY The Lafayette Parish School Board hereby declares the following prohibiting sexual harassment in the Lafayette Parish School System. 1. The Lafayette Parish School Board desires to provide a school environment free of sexual harassment. 2. The supervisory staff, employees and non-employees engaged in business with the Lafayette Parish School Board are prohibited from conduct of a sexual nature which either explicitly or implicitly makes acceptance or rejection of a sexual invitation a condition of assigning of grades, awarding of honors, participation in activities, administering of discipline or similar actions or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive school environment for students. 3. Students are prohibited from conduct of a sexual nature which either explicitly or implicitly makes acceptance or rejection of a sexual invitation a condition for receiving favorable treatment or for participation in school activities. Students are prohibited from making sexual advances or requests for sexual favors which interferes with an individual's school performance or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive school environment. 4. The principal or assistant principal shall investigate all complaints of sexual harassment thoroughly and promptly, and any student who feels that she/he has been sexually harassed shall take

her/his complaint to any school employee with whom the student feels comfortable. Any school employee who receives a complaint of sexual harassment shall report the complaint to the principal. The principal or assistant principal shall conduct a prompt, thorough investigation into the complaint while maintaining confidentiality of the complaint. The principal or assistant principal shall notify the parent(s) or guardian(s) of the complaint and offer any resources available for assisting the student in recovering from the harassment. Sexual harassment as defined in this policy does not include sexual abuse, which is defined and addressed under Policy File: JGI Suspected Child Abuse and/or Neglect and Policy File: JGI-R Guidelines for Reporting Suspected Child Abuse and/or Neglect. 5.
