The 1 st International Opera Competition (Hong Kong) Introduction The 1 st International Opera Competition (Hong Kong) is an international event organized by the Artists International Music & Dance Association in Hong Kong. The purpose of this event is to provide an opportunity for singers across the world to display and compete with their operatic talents on an international scale. This event will be held on May 11-17, 2010 in Hong Kong. On the judging panel will be internationally renowned musicians from around the world including music directors of international opera houses, well-known singers, deans and professors from various musical institutions. Thus provides an opportunity for young musicians to set foot on the international stage and be critiqued by those who already have many years of experience in the field. The competition itself will be held primarily in Hong Kong. Members of the judging panel will also provide master classes for the contestants and winners of the competition and winners will also be given the chance to further their musical education in Canada and also gain performance opportunities in various Italian Opera houses.

The 1st International Opera Competition (Hong Kong) Purpose of Competition: Provide young opera singers with the opportunity to pursue their operatic aspirations of competing and performing on an international stage. Events: 1. Western Opera Group a. Solo group (must sing a recitative) i. Must prepare three contrasting arias b. Ensemble Group A (Duet, Trio, Quartet, Sextet ensembles) i. Must prepare two contrasting pieces c. Ensemble Group B (Solo and Choral Accompaniment, Duet and Choral Accompaniment, or Full Choir) i. Must prepare two contrasting pieces 2. Chinese National Opera Group a. Solo group (must sing a recitative) i. Must prepare three contrasting arias b. Ensemble Group A (Duet, Trio, Quartet, Sextet ensembles) i. Must prepare two contrasting pieces c. Ensemble Group B (Solo and Choral Accompaniment, Duet and Choral Accompaniment, or Full Choir) i. Must prepare two contrasting pieces Eligibility: 1. Must be 16 to 50 years of age (born between 1960-1994) The competition will be divided into five age groups: Group A 16-22 years of age Group B 23-29 years of age Group C 30-36 years of age Group D - 37-43 years of age Group E 44-50 years of age

The 1st International Opera Competition (Hong Kong) All participants must observe the following rules and regulations: Rules 1. Participants are responsible for arriving to the competition venue on time, as outlined by the schedule that will be provided by the Organizing Committee. 2. Participants who use an accompanist outside of those provided by the Organizing Committee are responsible to cover the cost at their own expense. 3. Finalists will be required to pay for master classes that they will be receiving during the final rounds of the competition. 4. Participations should prepare sufficient funds to use towards transportation, accommodation costs, leisure costs and other living expenses during the course of the competition. Regulations 1. The Organizing Committee maintains the right to accept or reject any applications received. 2. The decisions made by the Judging Committee will be final and cannot be changed by a third party. 3. The decisions made by the Organizing Committee will be final and legally binding. 4. If participants cannot fulfill their commitments or are unable to comply with competition rules and regulations, the Organizing Committee holds the right to disqualify such participants who will be asked to leave immediately. 5. The Organizing Committee cannot be held responsible for any items lost by participants during the course of the competition. 6. The Organizing Committee cannot be held responsible for any incidents that occur outside the venue. 7. The Organizing Committee holds the right to replace participants who have been disqualified or have abstained from subsequent rounds with other participants of the competition.
