THE GAZETTE OF INDIA EXTRAORDINARY MINISTRY OF LABOUR NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 7th February, 2001 G.S.R.73(E), - In exercise of the powers conferred by sub- section (1) of section 37 of the Apprentice 1961 (52 of 1961),the central Government, after consulting the central Apprenticeship council,hereby ma following rules further to amend the Apprenticeship Rules,1991 namely. 1. (1) These rules may be called the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Rules, 2001 (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in Official Gazette. 2. PROGRAMMING AND SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT (PASAA) UNDER APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING SCHEME 1. Course Objective GENERAL INFORMATION The objective of the course under Apprenticeship Training Scheme is to provide live/industrial training to the holders of National Trade Certificate (Graduate from Industrial Training Institutes/Centres) in the trade of Computer Operator and Programming Assistant. 2. Entry Qualification : National Trade Certificate (NTC) Issued by National Council for Vocational Training in Computer Operator and programming Assistant Trade. 3. Duration of Apprenticeship Training : One Year 4. N.C.O Code No : 103.70, 103.80 5. Terminal Behavior On Completion of the training the trainee is expected to be able to Provide Assistance to Systems Analyst in their day-to-day work in program coding, system analysis and design preparation of technical document/specifications Provide assistance to the system administrator Manage the standalone computer systems develop programs to generate reports or ad-hoc queries prepare documents/presentation using a standard office automation tool.
6. Course Outline The Training shall comprise of a. On-the-job training It shall cover the following areas for a period of four months System administration Application Development Broad course contents for the two areas are being prescribed herein. However, the actual training shall be dependent on the facilities available in the establishment, with an idea to expose the trainees to as many activities as possible. The trainee shall maintain a daily work diary for the on-the job training. Which shall be periodically authenticated by the supervisor. b. Each apprentice shall undertake a project in any of the areas depending on his/her interest and facilities available in the establishment. Project guidelines are being prescribed herein. The duration of the project shall be four months. 7. Examination a) Theory examination shall comprise of viva voce based on the theoretical contents related to the syllabus.maximum marks for Theory is 100. b) Practical examination shall comprise of 100 marks i) Sessional work (The marks for sessional work shall be awarded by the officer in-charge training of the apprentices in the establishment based on the performance of the apprentices during the training period) ii) Final Examination Assessment of on the job training (Viva voce based on work diary) Evaluation of project report (The apprentice may also be asked to run the project) 100 marks 200 marks

System Administration Course content for on-the-job training During this period apprentices assist the System Administrator and learn/do the activities given below: The apprentice shall be advised to refer to the manuals as well to know more about various setup requirements, thus creating a habit of going through manuals in case of trouble shooting. Review Computer Fundamentals MS- Windows Office Automation Tools Local Area Network OS Administration (Windows, Linux/Unix/Netware) OS Installation OS Setup Add/Remove Programs Drivers Setup Security Setup (User/Password, Permissions) Disk Management Backup/Restore Virus Protection Printer Setup Network Setup Email/Internet Setup Resource Sharing Troubleshooting Working with different kind of editors Software Documentation Reference Server Setup Web Server Domain Name Server Mail Server Proxy Server Other Administrative Tasks Computer Center Management
2.0 Application Development During this period the apprentice shall work under a System Analyst and assist him/her in preparation of system documentation, preparation of flow arts/diagrams, writing programs, preparation of presentation. The apprentice shall be given the manuals to read about the development tools and thus inculcating the habit of selflearning. The apprentice shall learn the following System Documentation Programming using C++/Visual Basic/ Java or other latest development tools RDBMS (Oracle/Sql Server/Ingress/UDB etc.) ODBC/JDBC Object Oriented Development Web Based Development using HTML/ASP/Java Applets/Java Script etc. Software Development Tools Manual Reference.
Project Guidelines Objective: The objective of the project is to help the apprentices develop ability to apply the acquired theoretical and practical tools/techniques to. Solve problems related to industry, academic institutions and research laboratories. A guide for project shall be assigned by the establishment where the apprentice is undergoing the training. After consultation with the guide, the Apprentice shall select the project. The topic may be chosen from System Administration activity or it may be from application development. List of Topics: An illustrative list of broad areas and elated tools for doing the project is given hereunder. List of Broad areas of application and related tools. GUI Tools : Visual Basic, SQL, Windows Language : C++, Java RDBMS : Oracle, Ingress etc. Applications : Financial/ manufacturing/multi-media/ Computer Graphics/ Instructional Design/ Database, Management System/Internet/ Intranet/Computer Network.
Project Report The project report may contain the following. Certificate by the Guide Certificate of originality of work Acknowledgement, if any Introduction Objective Project Category Project Activity Tools/Environment used Program Structure/logic Coding Validation checks Table structure if any List of Report Queries Sample Report Layout References.
