2. CONTROL ELEMENTS AND CONNECTIONS Fig. 2.1: Control element and connection Power i upplied via an IEC connector. The matching cable i provided with the unit. Ue the POWER witch to turn on the B415DSP. Before connecting the unit to the power main, enure that the POWER witch i in OFF poition. + Attention: The POWER witch doe not fully diconnect the unit from the main. To diconnect the unit from the main, pull out the main cable plug or appliance coupler. When intalling the product, enure the plug or appliance coupler i readily operable. Unplug the power cord completely when the unit i not ued for long period of time. Ue the LEVEL control to adjut the ignal gain of the MIC/LINE input. Before you connect or diconnect a ignal ource to or from one of the input, pleae turn the correponding control fully to the left. Once the ignal ource i connected, increae the volume a deired by turning the control clockwie. Alway make ure that the CLIP LED doe not light up at all or with ignal peak only. Line-level ignal: Device with high output level (e.g. the output of mixing conole or CD player) only need little gain. In thi cae, the LEVEL control will motly be poitioned omewhere in the area marked LINE (left half of the control range). Microphone ignal Low-level microphone ignal need more gain. When microphone are ued, the control will be poitioned in the MIC area (right half of the control range). + We would like to draw your attention to the fact that extremely loud ound level may damage your hearing a well a your headphone/loudpeaker. Turn the LEVEL control fully to the left before you witch on the unit. Be careful to elect a uitable volume at all time. The CLIP LED light up when the input ignal level i too high. In thi cae, turn the LEVEL control to the left until the LED goe out or only light up at peak level. Ue the MIC/LINE input (XLR connector) for connecting audio ignal. The LINE OUT XLR jack provide the ignal with no additional gain applied in order to connect another loudpeaker, for example. The output ignal i a mix of both input ignal. (See Chapter 4.2 for more information on how to ue everal loudpeaker) The B415DSP i equipped with a 2-band tone control. Each band allow you to apply a maximum boot/cut of 15 db, in it center poition the equalizer i et to neutral. Ue the EQ HIGH control to raie or lower the treble range by 15 db. The cut-off frequency i 12 khz. Ue the EQ LOW control to rai of lower the ba range by 15 db. The cut-off frequency i 100 Hz. The B415DSP feature a high-pa filter with a lope of 24 db/oct. to eliminate unwanted low-frequency content, uch a pop ound produced by hand-held microphone, or rumble or wind noie when uing high-enitivity microphone. The LOW CUT control adjut the cut-off frequency. If you want to ue the B415DSP in combination with a ubwoofer, you can ue the high-pa filter to lower the ba range reproduced by the ubwoofer. Thi allow you to operate the B415DSP even without an external frequency croover. Set the cut-off frequency to the highet frequency that can be reproduced by the ubwoofer. The CONTOUR witch govern the dynamic contour filter: SPEECH Setting the CONTOUR witch to SPEECH (witch not preed) will optimize the frequency repone for peech application. Thi will raie the midrange, which in turn enure better intelligibility. MUSIC Setting the CONTOUR witch to MUSIC (witch preed) will optimize the frequency repone for muic playback. 6 2. CONTROL ELEMENTS AND CONNECTIONS

The TIMED TURNOFF witch activate the automatic turnoff function: ON When the witch i preed (ON poition), the automatic turn-off function i activated. The loudpeaker i turned off automatically when it receive no ignal for more than 3 minute. A oon a a ignal i received, the loudpeaker i witched back on. OFF When the witch i preed (OFF poition), the loudpeaker remain witched on and can only be deactivated with the POWER witch. A noie-gate allow you to eliminate unwanted noie during ignal paue. Thi i done by a circuit that mute the output when the ignal level drop below a preet threhold. Ue the NOISE GATE control to determine the threhold below which the noie-gate cloe. The TH LED light up a oon a the ignal level drop below the threhold value adjuted with the NOISE GATE control (the noie-gate cloe). EUROLIVE B415DSP Since the B415DSP can be placed on the floor at an angle a hown in the illutration below, you can alo ue it a a monitor peaker on tage. In contrat to PA peaker, tage monitor are ued to direct ound toward individual performer on tage. When microphone are ued, it i not eay to poition the monitor peaker, ince the microphone are moved around in front of them, often coming very cloe. To avoid feedback, it i recommended that you carefully elect and direct the microphone ued. Baically, you hould never ue microphone with a high directivity, i.e. with a cardioid or hyper-cardioid polar pattern. Never hold a microphone o that it main pick-up area point directly toward the loudpeaker. When you hold it with it le enitive ide toward the peaker box, you can move cloer to the peaker. Microphone with a cardioid polar pattern hould alway be directed at a 90 angle to the axi of the loudpeaker (Fig. 3.3, left). Microphone with a hyper-cardioid polar pattern hould alway be poitioned at an acute angle to the axi (Fig. 3.3, right). 3. SETTING UP THE B415DSP The ound of your B415DSP largely depend on the room acoutic. Pleae oberve the following hint to get the mot out of your B415DSP. 3.1 Tweeter High frequencie are the very part of the audio pectrum that enure a clear perception of ound and peech intelligibility. Although thee frequencie can be located mot eaily, they are alo the firt to be blocked acoutically. We therefore recommend that you et up your peaker on peaker tand (not included), o that the tweeter radiate it ignal lightly above the head of the audience. Thi will enure both an optimum diperion of the high-frequency content and a coniderably improved peech intelligibility. Fig. 3.3: The B415DSP a a monitor loudpeaker + If you encounter peritent feedback problem, conider uing our proven FEEDBACK DESTROYER PRO FBQ2496 for line-level ignal. For ignal with line or microphone level, we recommend our BEHRINGER SHARK DSP110. 4. APPLICATION EXAMPLES Fig. 3.1: B415DSP mounted on a tand 3.2 How to avoid feedback Alway place the microphone (viewed from the audience) behind the B415DSP, never in front of it (Fig. 3.2). When you wih to adjut the control on the B415DSP while holding a microphone, pleae approach the loudpeaker from the rear to avoid feedback. 4.1 Preentation With jut one B415DSP and one or two dynamic microphone, you can et up a baic audio ytem with very little effort. Thank to the built-in mixer ection, you can connect the microphone directly to the B415DSP. Mount the B415DSP on a peaker tand for optimum preentation and intelligibility of announcement. If one B415DSP i not enough, you can, of coure, ue a econd or even more loudpeaker. Connecting microphone: Turn the LEVEL control fully to the left. Connect your microphone to the MIC/LINE input. Switch on the B415DSP. Turn the LEVEL control gradually clockwie to et the volume of your choice. Oberve the CLIP LED while aduting the volume. Make ure they never hine contantly but only light up at peak level only. Ue the LINE OUT connector to connect an (optional) econd B415DSP. + Never place a microphone directly in front of the loudpeaker owing to danger of feedback! When operating the B415DSP make ure that you alway tay behind the loudpeaker to avoid feedback. Fig. 3.2: Right and wrong poitioning 4. APPLICATION EXAMPLES 7

Fig. 4.1: Connecting microphone 4.2 PA ytem PA i hort for public addre and include all application that involve a larger audience. Thi example ue a mixing conole a it central unit for ytem operation and connection. All microphone, feeding and effect device, etc. are connected to the mixing conole, which i then linked to the B415DSP. Connecting a mixing conole: Turn the LEVEL control fully to the left. Connect the left output of the mixing conole to the MIC/ LINE connector of the left loudpeaker, and the right mixing conole output to the right loudpeaker. Switch on the B415DSP. Raie the level of the mixing conole output to a level of 0dB. Turn the LEVEL control gradually clockwie to et the volume of your choice. When the CLIP LED light up, thi indicate that the maximum volume ha been reached. Intead of a mixing conole, you can alo connect a tereo ignal ource, e.g. a CD player. In thi cae, one B415DSP i connected to each of the output of the ignal ource. Connecting a tereo ignal ource: Turn the LEVEL control fully to the left. Connect the left output of the tereo device to the MIC/LINE connector of the left loudpeaker, and the right tereo device output to the MIC/LINE connector of the right loudpeaker. Switch on the B415DSP. Raie the output level of the tereo ignal ource (if available), enuring that it doe not overload the input. Turn the LEVEL control gradually clockwie to et the volume of your choice. Linking everal B415DSP: If you need more ound preure, for example in larger room, imply increae the number of loudpeaker on each tereo ide. You could place two B415DSP on each tereo ide and interconnect them (ee Fig. 3.3). The loudpeaker can be tacked or placed one beide the other. When you tack the peaker, the carrying recee built into the cabinet enure the tability of the tack. You can connect a microphone, a mixing conole or tereo ignal ource. Connect the LINE OUT connector of the firt B415DSP to the MIC/LINE input of the next B415DSP. + With everal B415DSP peaker connected to each other, their input impedance will be reduced by half (two B415DSP), or to one third (three B415DSP), etc. Alway ue the output impedance of the mixing conole a a bai for your calculation! Fig. 4.3: Linking everal B415DSP peaker Fig. 4.2: Connecting a mixing conole 8 4. APPLICATION EXAMPLES

4.3 Other ue Monitoring: When ued a a monitor, the B415DSP receive it audio ignal from the monitor or aux output of the mixing conole. If additional B415DSP are to be ued, you can loop the audio ignal from the firt peaker to the next B415DSP uing the line output. The ound and volume of each B415DSP can be adjuted with their own operating element (LEVEL), (EQ HIGH) and (EQ LOW). Keyboard amplification: Guitarit and bait uually have their own amplifier on tage to make ure they can hear their own intrumen even when no monitor are ued. In particular on maller tage, the power delivered by thee amp i enough to match the volume produced by other ound ource on tage. Thing are different with keyboard and yntheizer a thee uually have no builtin peaker. The B415DSP allow you to connect and mix two keyboard. If you want to play more than two keyboard, you can ue a ubmixer (e.g. MicroMIX MX400) to mix down the ignal and route them to the B415DSP uing ubmixer output connector. The econd MIC/LINE input can be ued to connect the monitor ignal from the PA mixing conole, o that you can alo hear the other member of your band. 5. INSTALLATION Both audio input and output of the BEHRINGER B415DSP are fully balanced. To maximize interference compenation, try to etablih balanced connection to other equipment, whenever poible. + Make ure that only competent people intall your B415DSP. They mut be ufficiently earthed during and after the intallation proce. Otherwie, electrotatic dicharge may negatively affect the operating characteritic of your equipment. EUROLIVE B415DSP 6.
