JOHN COOPER MONDAY 6 MAY 9:30AM IN NDS5/304 PRINCIPLES OF CONTRACT LAW John Cooper is a Partner at Jones Day and has worked on many groundbreaking projects in the construction and infrastructure sectors as well as being a pioneer of a new and innovative form of dispute resolution. Mr Cooper was a lead lawyer in operation and maintenance agreements in infrastructure projects as well as agreements for development of coal mines in NSW. Mr Cooper will be speaking on implied terms. PHILIP TAYLOR S.C. 9:30AM IN NDS2/222 CONSTITUTIONAL LAW Philip Taylor S.C holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University where he was awarded the University Medal in Law in 1984. His legal career includes 24 years as a barrister and nine years as a Senior Counsel. He has also previously worked with the Constitutional Commission and with the NSW Solicitor-General. DICCON LOXTON MONDAY 6 MAY 1:30PM IN NDS5/304 PRINCIPLES OF EQUITY Diccon Loxton has been a partner at Allens since 1984 and is recognised internationally for his innovative work on finance deals and has a reputation for quality, plain English drafting. Mr Loxton is sought after for strategic advice and is extensively experienced in project financing, takeover financing and domestic and overseas capital markets and derivatives. Mr Loxton will be speaking on the doctrines of subrogation and contribution. RICHARD MAURICE 4:30PM IN NDS2/222 FAMILY LAW Richard has been a barrister at the New South Wales Bar for 25 years. He has worked in private practice and the Australian Legal Aid Office. In 1988 he was called to the NSW Bar and, since then, has practiced almost exclusively in Family Law. He is a qualified Mediator and has been retained in that capacity in Family Law cases involving both parenting and property matters. DENNIS WILSON TUESDAY 7 MAY 8:30AM IN NDS2/222 ADMINISTRATIVE LAW Dennis Wilson, Barrister-at-law, currently has chambers at Edmund Barton Chambers. Mr Wilson s areas of expertise include advocacy, mediation, arbitration including International Commercial Arbitration and corporate governance. He is a member of a number of bodies including being an accredited mediator with the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia, a member of the National Dispute Resolution Advisory Council and a member of the International Bar Association. IAN McGILL 1:30PM IN NDS2/324 PRINCIPLES OF CONTRACT LAW Ian McGill has been a Partner at Allens since 1990 and specialises in mergers and acquisition, complex commercial contracts and corporate governance. His field of expertise is in technology, media and telecommunications, specifically ownership, control and structural regulation of converged media and telecommunications industries. WEDNESDAY 8 MAY DENISE McCONIE 8:30AM IN NDS5/203 LEGAL RESEARCH AND WRITING Ms McConie is a solicitor with a broad range of experiences mainly in litigation in a government context, including employment and discrimination law. She has served as Practice Manager at the NSW Crown Solicitor s Office for 13 years where she is responsible for the leadership and management of commercial operations competing with the private sector for legal work. MICHAEL POPKIN 9:30AM IN NDS15/103 COMMERCIAL LAW Michael Popkin is a Senior Associate at Allens where he is part of the Corporate Insolvency & Restructuring team. Over the years Michael worked extensively with Professor Quinlan before he left Allens. Michael Popkin was born and raised in Canada and studied at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. After graduating Michael spent many years working in corporate restricting in a number of Asian countries before moving to Australia. Coming from Canada where personal property securities legislation first originated, Michael is an expert on the Australian version of that regime. An entertaining speaker Michael Popkin regularly delivers papers on personal property securities legislation and other aspects of corporate insolvency and restructuring. CHRIS PEADON 9:30AM IN NDS5/410 PERSONAL TAXATION LAW THURSDAY 9 MAY Chris Peadon has chambers at the prestigious 7 Selbourne Chambers. Mr Peadon s main areas of expertise lie in commercial and equity, government, migration, taxation, administrative as well as insurance and reinsurance. Mr Peadon will be speaking about Part IVA of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1936 (Cth) and anti-avoidance measures. Ms Priestley has experience in a wide range of complex contractual matters, employers liability and played a vital role in the HIH litigation.
