Prgram Infrmatin: Prgram Name: Child Develpment Prgram Type: Instructinal Nn Instructinal Prgram Missin Statement: The child develpment faculty and staff strive t ffer affective, up t date and student centered instructin, with sensitivity t the diversity f students, their educatin needs and their career gals. The Child Develpment department prvides relevant curse and lab wrk twards prfessinal technical wrkfrce and career preparatin training in Child Develpment, Parent Training, and Elementary Teacher careers. The Child Develpment department supprts Bakersfield Cllege in prviding excellent learning pprtunities in bth career and technical training and transfer curses. Our prgram f study integrates theretical and practical curse wrk t prepare the student fr Kern Cunty s wrkfrce, fr general educatin requirement curses and degree transfer pprtunities. The Child Develpment certificates are in line with the State f Califrnia Child Develpment permit matrix that ensures students are ready t wrk in the field upn cmpletin f curse wrk. Last year, Child Develpment was nted as ne f the tp 10 degree majrs t transfer t fur year clleges. The Child Develpment department ffers classes in Delan, n campus and n line in rder t meet the needs f the cmmunity. II. Prgram Assessment (fcus n mst recent year): A. This is because the full time faculty fund an incnsistency with adjunct understanding f the prtfli assessment prject; which is an integral part f assessment f the curses. B. When the prgram utcmes are assessed, it als assesses the curse utcmes all at the same time. D. Hw d the prgram learning utcmes align with Institutinal Learning Outcmes? The prgram utcmes align with every institutinal utcme. The first institutinal utcme f critical thinking is reflected in ur third prgram utcme which requires the student t cmpare and cntrast the develpment f children. The secnd institutinal utcme f cmmunicating clearly and effectively, in bth written and ral frms, is met thrugh the prtfli evaluatin f the prgram utcmes. T assess every prgram utcme, students must d a prtfli assignment; which in mst cases is a written paper with an ral reprt. The third institutinal utcme f demnstrating knwledge and abilities in a chsen area f study, is accmplished thrugh every child develpment prgram utcme and the prtfli assessments. The furth institutinal utcme f appreciating civic respnsibilities is aligned in ur third and furth utcme which requires students t demnstrate an understanding f the cultural needs and the special needs f children. The prtfli assignment fr these utcmes als addresses hw t take actin in supprting cultural and special needs f all children. E. The Child Develpment Advisry is ging strng; attendance at the trimester meetings has increased. The prgram is active in the Child Develpment cmmunity. Faculty participates in the lcal Child Care Cuncil and Child Care Netwrk. Additinally, we assist in hsting the Cunty Child Develpment Cnference and the Infant/Tddler cnference with set up and presentatins. F.
