MASTER ICP Lille Saarbrücken Warwick Differences in European Legal Systems are becoming more and more of a challenge for lawyers. Students must prepare for this challenge as early as possible in their legal studies. Students wishing to understand the French, German and English Legal Systems and cultures may apply the exchange programme set up between the Universities of Warwick, Saarland and Lille. This trilateral programme leads to a Master s degree issued by the University of Lille II. Participants, whether they come from France, Germany or the UK will study Law in all three countries, which will lead, undoubtedly, to a better comprehension of the European economy as well as moulding European lawyers capable of speaking three languages, a qualification which will be recognised in all three countries 1) Procedure : This is a Master s degree. To be able to apply, students must have attained 180 for three first three years of legal studies. Each University will choose 5 successful applicants per year. At Lille, the selection process takes place during the 2 nd semester of the third year of Licence in Law. At the start of the 3 rd there will be a meeting for students who are competent German and English. At the start of the 2 nd semester the application form are made available, to be filled in within the month. Students will then sit an oral exam in March/April in front of a panel composed of representatives and those in charge of the programme from the three partner Universities. The interview will be conducted in all three languages. The panel takes into consideration legal and linguistic abilities as well as the motivation of the applicant. The list of successful applicant will be classed in order of merit. Successful applicants will only participate in the programme if they attain the 180 ECTs required at the end of their 3rd year. Any Lille student who corresponds with the desired profile should enrol at the University of Lille II for a Master 1 degree. They will also be required to enrol at Lille II and Internal Relations or the first semester which will take place at the Law School here in Lille. Successful students will have the status of ERASMUS student.

2) How the programme works: ICP students must follow courses and take the exams organised by the Law School at Lille II in the 1st semester The second semester will take place in Saarbrucken at the University of Saarland, from April till the end of July. Intensive language courses will be organised at Lille between the two semesters (either February or March depending on the Christmas holidays). These intensives course will be provided by German lawyers, who will be at Lille thanks the teacher mobility in Europe (ERASMUS for teachers!) During the 1st semester, students will organise the stay in Germany. They must think of a subject for their dissertation which will be written in the three languages. This dissertation will be presented to a panel of French, German and English law professors at the end of the programme. At both Warwick and Saarbrucken, students will follow the required courses and take the exams. While abroad they will be considered as ERASMUS students For the last year of the Master, the students will enrol irrespective of their University of origin, in Master 2 at Lille II. This enrolment is necessary under French law, for the ICP Master s degree be awarded. Results obtained in Lille, Saarbrucken and Warwick are mark on a basis of continuous assessment. The final assessment will be the viva of the dissertation. The dissertation must relate to a Comparative Law, European Law or another subject that is transversal.
