Facebook Authentication Within the NEXT Analytics application, select either the Facebook Insights or the Facebook DM option. Let s start with Facebook Insights. NEXT lets you manage more than one Facebook Login. That s convenient if you are a consultant, or if you manage many Fan Pages, some with different Facebook logins. The following dialog box allows you to maintain a list of Facebook Accounts. You can also see that there are other tabs that let you get Facebook Insights metrics on Posts, Pages, Domains, and Applications. 3 P a g e
If it s your first time, you are prompted to login and authorize the NEXT software to access your data. At no time, does the NEXT software use your data without you under control. 4 P a g e
5 P a g e
After you ve done this step, you may be asked to assign some program defaults. Click the drop down for a list of your fan pages, applications, and/or domains, then click Set Default. This box allows you to maintain a list of Facebook Accounts. Just click on the drop down box to see all the accounts. Depending on which one you choose, different tabs will appear indicating the relevant Posts, Pages, Domains, and Applications to that user. Clicking Refresh Data at this point will give you a list of friends for the user entered in the box. NEXT Facebook Date Ranges and Date Detail You can change the default date range, which is normally the past one month. 6 P a g e
The units of time that are available to you are: And you can break them up into these groupings: 7 P a g e
Rolling Period is from today back for the amount time unit you chose Last Full Period looks back in time for the most recent full unit of time that you chose. E.g. Last Calendar Month. To Date gives you data from the start of the period to today. Today and Yesterday are only useful for selected metrics, especially in regards to Facebook Insights which often lags by a day or two. Get Data To/From allows you to select specific dates. 8 P a g e
The next tab, Level of Detail for Dates, lets you choose how detailed you d like the data in the Date Range you chose. Using the Sum options is much more efficient than generating daily data manually. Your results come back MUCH faster and the numbers are still quite useful. Value for each day will give you each day s data, one number for each day. Sum of 7 days will query a 7 day total as one number. This is very much more efficient and faster than getting 7 individual days and adding them up. Sum of 28 days will query the most recent 28 days and provide a total as one number. Similarly, Facebook also supports getting the sum of the most recent 28 days. Sum of the lifetime values is only available for some metrics. If available, Facebook will deliver the lifetime total on a particular date.. 9 P a g e
The options that are below the Sum choices pertain to what you ve asked for. The combination of the Sum and your choices in the options give you great control over what data will be returned. Examples include: Sum of the last 7 days leading ending on Monday for the range of weeks in the Date Range Sum of the last 28 days ending on day 1 of each month. Lifetime Values for the last 3 calendar months. Most Facebook metrics are not provided real-time. Depending on where you are in the world, the lag can be up to three calendar days (usually the Pacific Rim). The Option tab allows you to shift the Date Range automatically, so you don t need to see zero results for yesterday or the day before because they haven t been processed by Facebook servers yet. NEXT Facebook Post Insights The Post Insights function examines post-level data of a Facebook Fan Page you have access to as an owner, administrator, or through Facebook Insights. Rather than receiving data about your Fan Page as a whole, post-level data will provide insights to specific posts you published on that Page. In essence, you can use Post Insights to track and analyze the performance of individual posts. 10 P a g e
Gathering data about posts on your fan pages is simple. Click on the Post Insights tab. A list of your pages for which you have owner, administrator, or insight access appears in the top window. Select the page you want and click Fetch Posts. For a busy page, this may take a few minutes. You can only analyze posts from one page at a time. The posts for the page you selected will show up in the middle window. Select any post in the middle window in order to analyze it in detail in the bottom window. You can click on more than one post at a time. Clicking on the selected post in the third window will remove that post from selection. Once you have chosen which post(s) to analyze, click on a post and one or more of the option buttons underneath it. NEXT Software will refresh with the metrics for the selected post(s). If the option you want is already selected, then click the Refresh Data button. 11 P a g e
NEXT Facebook Page Insights NEXT can provide you with detailed data about your Fan Pages. In Facebook Insights, click on the Page Insights tab. Select the metrics you would like to use by clicking on the check boxes. Be sure to look through all the tabs to find the metrics that suit you: Widgets Reach Engagement Installed TOS Permission Blocks and API Performance. Once you have finished selecting all the metrics you want, click Refresh Data. NEXT will fetch metrics you selected for the Application you entered. NEXT Facebook Data Analysis As of Version 6, we separated Facebook Insights from Facebook Data. Having two options makes it easier to create a user interface that is especially suited to your task. 15 P a g e
Facebook Data allows you to analyze any public Facebook page, including your competitors page. If you manage multiple Fan Pages, you can manage them at the same time. Under the Things You Track tab and the Fan Page sub-tab, 1. Type a Fan Page name of your choice and click search; or 2. Go to Facebook and navigate to a Fan Page. Copy the URL and paste it in this box; or 3. Go to a Facebook Fan Page s Profile Picture, click on the picture, and copy and paste its URL into the box. Then click search. If you want to provide a hint to the search engine, click the drop-down box beside the search button first and tell the search engine what kind of Facebook Object it is. Other choices include pasting in the actual Facebook ID if you know it, or clicking the Favorites tab and getting pages that you Administer or have Liked. 16 P a g e
Enter your Fan Page name here After you ve built a list of Fan Pages (or other Facebook objects) switch to the Information You Seek tab and choose which Facebook data you want to see. Click the Refresh Data to retrieve your data from Facebook. 17 P a g e
