Amdocs Data Integrity Management Suite Rediscover your network

Amdocs Data Integrity Management Suite 2 Data integrity management is now a must-have To increase revenues and cut costs, service providers are striving to fully automate service order fulfillment and other business processes, which moves the network inventory database to center stage. When the inventory database becomes mission-critical, so does its data quality. To be able to deliver on the promise of automation, better margins and higher customer satisfaction, high-quality network inventory data is no longer an option. It s a must-have. Data integrity management pays for itself (and more) The good news is that this must-have pays for itself. Data integrity management provides very large OPEX and CAPEX savings. A brief survey of Amdocs Data Integrity Management customers indicated that all of them are enjoying CAPEX and OPEX savings in the millions and even 10 s of millions of dollars. Amdocs Data Integrity Management s return on investment has been tremendous. See the case studies below. Huge savings not a surprise Leading analysts who have researched the subject of network data integrity already predicted data integrity management s huge potential savings. Total Telecom reported, An accurate record of what is owned and used by a network operator can save 5-7 percent of annual capital expenditure. The Yankee Group wrote, On average, 35 percent of service provider network assets are stranded, and numbers as high as 50 percent are not uncommon. In 2011, Heavy Reading reported that the majority of operators still feel that more than 20 percent of their inventory data is out of sync with the network. Heavy Reading also reported that approximately 50 percent of operators still use ad hoc manual audits to keep inventory data in sync with the network. Defining data integrity management Data integrity management refers to the software tools and business processes used to ensure that information in an operator s network inventory database (or databases) is accurate. Generally, data integrity management requires periodic discovery of physical and logical network layers across a range of network domains, as well as synchronization of that data with the inventory database, and identification of discrepancies between the actual and documented network state. Amdocs Data Integrity Management suite The Amdocs Data Integrity Management suite includes the Data Integrity Management Discovery and Synchronization engines, as well as Data Integrity Management packs, each of which enable discovery and synchronization of a particular class of network elements. The suite synchronizes data with Amdocs Resource Manager, which is the inventory database of the Amdocs OSS suite. Case Study 1 North American tier 0 service provider recovers $32 million in stranded assets You might be thinking that we forgot a decimal in the number 32, but we didn t. Over a period of 18 months, this service provider used Amdocs Data Integrity Management to recover thirty-two million dollars in stranded SONET cards. (The expression stranded refers to fully operational network elements that are not in use because they are not accessible by provisioning software). Before Amdocs Data Integrity Management was deployed, inventory database accuracy had declined to 40-50 percent, so the inventory database didn t know about the existence of many new cards. To make matters worse, many available cards that were listed in the database were mistakenly registered as being in use. Amdocs Data Integrity Management was used to repair database inaccuracies, and in the process, discovered tens of thousands of stranded SONET cards. In addition to the huge CAPEX savings of $32 million dollars, the customer also realized significant OPEX benefits, such as lower order fallout and fewer truck rolls.

Amdocs Data Integrity Management Suite 3 Why Amdocs Data Integrity Management? Proven scalability Amdocs Data Integrity Management has proven scalability. It scans millions of network objects on a regular basis at a range of service providers, from some of the largest service providers in the world, to regional players. In Amdocs OSS 8, the Data Integrity Management suite discovery engine was enhanced to discover the largest networks, either direct from each network element or via element managers. In OSS 9, a new GUI was added to Amdocs Data Integrity Management, to make administration and monitoring even easier. It s about more than just great software While it s a tremendous achievement to discover millions of dollars in lost assets, the payoff shouldn t end there. Such a discovery also presents a critical opportunity to identify the business processes that led to the data degradation, and improve them, so that data quality is better maintained apriori. Case Study 2 South American tier 1 service provider recovers over $9 million in stranded assets This service provider had inherited a legacy inventory database as part of an acquisition. The database, which contained inventory data on the IP backbone network, was suspected to have data quality problems, but no one knew exactly how bad it was. Fortunately, the service provider leveraged Amdocs Data Integrity Management, and over 400 stranded network elements and 10,000 stranded cards were discovered, with a value of over 9 million dollars. Case Study 3 European tier 2 service provider raises operating margins What happened when this service provider deployed Amdocs OSS with Amdocs Data Integrity Management? Misaligned SDH circuits were reduced from 24 percent of total inventory to less than 2 percent, and stranded SDH equipment was reduced from 10 percent of total equipment to less than 2 percent. As a result, CAPEX was slashed. The improvement in network inventory accuracy also led to more rapid, predictable, and cost-effective delivery of triple play and business services, resulting in lower OPEX and a boost in revenues. Operating margins improved significantly.

Case Study 4 North American tier 1 service provider slashes $3-5 million off maintenance charges Recovering stranded equipment is only one way that Amdocs Data Integrity Management impacts the bottom line. Another way is updating the inventory database with the latest data about decommissioned network elements. This tier 1 service provider leveraged the highly accurate, decommissioned network element status provided by Amdocs Data Integrity Management to slash $1 million a year off router maintenance contract charges. Over the remaining life of the maintenance contract, total savings were estimated to be $3-5 million.
