WREB Exams at San Joaquin Valley College (SJVC) San Diego Campus Patient Procurement Screening: Candidates must provide their own patient. SJVC will not furnish any patients or make any record available for patient screening prior to the exam. San Joaquin Valley College will not provide clinical space for patient screening during the exam nor perform any screening prior to the exam. The Clinic: SJVC Clinics are equipped with Midmark Chairs and workstations. Two varieties of handpiece hoses are available on each unit: a 4-hole standard high speed handpiece hose and a 4-hole standard slow speed hose (for slow speed). Fiber optic handpieces will not work in the units. If a slow speed handpiece is needed during the hygiene exam a limited amount are available for rent. All operatories are equipped with Densply Cavitron ultrasonic scaling devices. (30 MHz only). Sleeve and insert are not included, but can be rented. There are no external air/water connections available nor hookups for air polishing devices. The use of an ultrasonic device creates considerable contaminated aerosols and splatter. It is our policy for each candidate to use a large diameter (standard size) high volume evacuator (HVE) during the use of any ultrasonic scaler. A saliva ejector hose does not qualify or take the place of an HVE. The candidates can use an HVE adaptor available for purchase for $5.00 any other needs to be approved by the site coordinator prior to use during the exam. Rentals: All rentals required $100.00 refundable deposit. The deposit will be refunded if returned in good working order for each item rented. Slow speed handpiece $50.00 Cavitron sleeve $50.00 Cavitron 30MHz insert $50.00 Instrument cassettes $100.00 SJVC will provide the following for the Dental Hygiene clinical exam: 2x2s Sharps disposal Cotton swabs Soap Autoclave bags/tape Metal air/water syringe tips Mouthwash Topical anesthetic Non-latex gloves Headrest covers Prophy paste Cavitron units Plastic barriers Masks Surface disinfectant Needles 25 gage long Over-gloves Paper towel Drinking cups Trays Patient Bibs Saliva ejectors/hve Lidocaine Ice packs Prophy angles Card board needle protector SJVC will provide the following for the Anesthesia exam: 2x2s Sharps disposal Cotton swabs Soap Autoclave bags/tape Metal air/water syringe tips Mouthwash Topical anesthetic Non-latex gloves Headrest covers Surface disinfectant Ice packs Plastic barriers Masks Drinking cups Disposable trays Over-gloves Paper towel 25 gage short needles Lidocaine Patient Napkins Saliva ejectors 25 gage long needles Card board needle protector Blood Pressure Cuffs: Are not provided, you will need to bring your own. Ultrasonic Inserts: Each unit is equipped with a 30MHz ultrasonic Dentsply Cavitron unit. Candidates must provide their own 30 MHz ultrasonic inserts and Sterimate sleeve. A limited amount of 30 MHz inserts and sleeve are available to be rented.

X-rays: exposure and developing (digital or traditional) are $3.50 per exposure (up to a maximum of $40.00). We can accommodate the taking of radiography prior to the exam if notified in advance. Candidates will not be allowed to expose radiographs but are responsible for instruction to the staff member on which exposure needs to be taken. We will not develop or print any analog or digital x-ray that was not exposed at SJVC. Metal air/water syringe tips must be used (no disposable are allowed). We require metal tips for equipment protection reasons. One metal tip will be provide for use without fee to each candidate. Parking: is available in the parking structure adjacent to the north side of the building. Parking is free. Please park on the 2 nd to 5 th floors of the parking structure on Thursday and Friday during the exam. Weekend parking can be on the first floor. There is no parking pass needed to park in the structure. Please do not park on the outside parking lot of the building you and or your patient will receive a ticket and or be towed from that area. This area is clearly marked with signs.

INFECTION CONTROL PROCEDURES FOR SITE: Location of expendable materials will be the same for each exam. During the clinic tour, you will be directed to the location(s) of all supplies provided at this site. Instructions on setting up units After cleaning and disinfecting the surfaces using heavy duty gloves, wash your hands with antimicrobial soap. Pre-made bags will be available containing all the barriers you need for unit set up. You may choose to wear exam gloves for this, however, clean hands contacting previously cleaned and disinfected items is acceptable. Place narrow plastic sleeves over the evacuation hoses, handpiece(s) and air/water syringe handpiece. Place a disposable saliva ejector tip in holder if you expect to use it. Cover light switches, light handles, chair position buttons, pens and pencils with blue tape barriers provided. Tape a plastic bag provided to the side of bracket tray. Place plastic chair cover on the disinfected counters near your chair. You may tape your overgloves (and instrument sharpening guide to this barrier). Your disposable supplies, pens and pencils may be placed on this barrier. Cover the instrument tray with a plastic bag, place covered tray on top. Location of sharps disposal containers Sharps containers are conveniently located at each operatory next to the sink. CLINICAL TREATMENT AREA PROCEDURE-END OF EXAM: a. Remember to wear the heavy duty gloves provided, safety eyewear, gown and masks for all infection control disinfection activities. b. Remove contaminated surface covers without contaminating the previously disinfected surfaces. Begin with the barriers on the operator light. Place the other covers, exam gloves, bib and other disposables on the chair cover and tie up the four corners to make a small pouch. It should then be disposed in one of the sink trash containers. c. Contaminated needles and used anesthetic cartridges are regulated waste and are placed in the sharps containers. DO NOT place local anesthesia protector cards in the sharps container; these can go in the trash. Location of oxygen and other emergency equipment: 1. Portable oxygen tanks are located at the northeast end of the clinic. Each oxygen set up contains bag, valve, mask nasal canula and pocket mask. (Locations marked with O2 on floor plan and clinic wall). 2. Emergency drug kit is located on the counter next to where the Chief Examiner is positioned. Contact the Chief Examiner for access during an emergency. 3. Chemical ice packs or traditional ice packs are also available upon request from the Chief Examiner. 4. An AED is located on the east wall next to the door in the sterilization room on the south side of the clinic. The medical first aid kit is also located in the same area as the AED.

LIMITED STERILIZATION: Candidates should arrive with all items previously sterilized. In cases where a candidate is scheduled to re-take the Dental Hygiene exam. Instruments must be clearly labeled with the candidate number and turned in with at least 2 hour notice. SJVC will not be responsible for any lost or broken instruments. It in the event that an instrument is dropped or broken during the exam or otherwise contaminated, a replacement instrument can be rented. (See rental information) Phones: BASIC EMERGENCY AND SAFETY INFORMATION The phone is located in sterilization area room 110. This is located just off the main clinic floor on the south side of the clinic. For emergency assistance 9-1-1, dial 9 to get an outside line and then dial 911 Fire Extinguishers: There is a total of 3 fire extinguishers in the clinic- one on the south wall next to sterilization, one at the rear exit at the west of the clinic and one located on the northeast wall near the Oxygen tank. How to use: Holding upright, pull ring pin. Start back 8 feet and aim the hose at the base of the fire. Squeeze lever and sweep side to side. Do not use if faced with a large or rapidly growing fire, exit the building as soon as possible (always take your patient with you). Nearest exits Exits are located on the east and west end of the clinic and at the main campus entrance down the hall on the south side of the clinic. From the east exit and main campus exits travel south to the front of the building and go west to the parking lot on the west side of the building. From the west exit, exit into the parking structure; turn left to the west exit of the parking structure into the parking lot on the west side of the building. Meet at the Southwest corner of the parking lot on the west side of the building. Eyewash Stations (please insure that both you and your patient wear protective eyewear): Eyewash stations are located in the sterilization room on the south side of clinic and at the sink in the radiology station on the west end of the clinic. Pull the green caps, pull the metal stopper on the back of the faucet and turn the water on. Flush eyes thoroughly. Emergency Oxygen: Victor Oxygen Therapy Regulator attached to oxygen tank in portable carts (located at the northeast end of the clinic, mark by sign on the wall). The tank has an adult and child Ambu bag, nasal canula and oxygen mask. First Aid and Emergency Kit: The Emergency medical kit is located on the clinic floor positioned by the Chief Examiner. Emergency Kit is marked with a red cross. Cold packs are located in the refrigerator inside the sterilization room. First aid kit is located on the east wall next to the door in the sterilization room on the south side of the clinic.

AED: AED is located on the east wall next to the door in the sterilization room on the south side of the clinic. MSDS Manuals/Book: Located on the south wall of the clinic next to sterilization. Exposures and Exposure Personnel (wear your PPE and handle sharps carefully): See Chief Examiner or the clinical assistant on clinic during the exam for paperwork. Instrument Rental: A limited number of handpieces, instrument cassette and ultrasonic inserts are available for a rental fee during the examination plus a $100.00 refundable deposit fee per item. The deposit is refundable provided the equipment is returned in the same condition as it was rented. The equipment can be picked up in the clinic at the time the candidate is setting up for their exam. A refundable deposit of $100.00 cash is required for each rental of a handpiece, instrument cassette, sleeve or ultrasonic insert. All deposits for rental equipment must be paid in cash to the Clinic Site Supervisor, Jean Honny. All rental fees must be paid in cash only. There is an ATM machine on the outside of the adjacent building.
