INSTRUCTORS JAMIE MURPHY, RN/OBGYN/CMT Director/Instructor/Therapist Born and raised in southwest Michigan, I have been married since1996 and have three wonderful children. I've always been passionate about being a caregiver. I've been a nurse since 1990 and specialized in labor/delivery, NICU and nursery. I absolutely loved my career, but didn't want to miss a single sporting event, concert or holiday with my kids. I also loved the thought of helping and educating people at a deeper level than I could as a nurse. So, in 2000, I became a medical massage therapist. The difference I could make in clients lives was amazing and I began teaching/apprenticing others, often other medical personnel. In 2008 after my third child, I decided to move away from the hospital setting completely and become a legal nurse consultant which allows me to evaluate possible malpractice/negligent OB cases from home while keeping up my nursing skills. I have time for my wonderful family. I have the good fortune of teaching a discipline that helps improve lives. Life...and a career in MMT...is good! Very good! I grew up in St. Joseph and received my Certification in Therapeutic Massage from the Health Enrichment Center in Lapeer, Michigan. I studied under Sandy Fritz, a leading textbook author in the field of therapeutic massage. The curriculum included a wide variety of disciplines: Swedish, sports and deep tissue massage, myofascial release and others. After my first son was born, I decided to continue my education and earned an elementary teaching degree from Western Michigan University. Later, after serving as a permanent substitute, my husband and I found out we were to be blessed with another child (16 years after my first). Needless to say, I needed a position that would accommodate our complicated family hours, and that s where Murphy s School of Medical Massage came in! I believe each person is blessed with a unique set of talents. With my education experience in therapeutic massage and my background in public teaching, I feel fortunate for the opportunity to become part of the Murphy s Team and the growing field of medical massage therapy where I can personally help make a real difference in the quality of life for students, clients, families and the community. NICOLE JOHNSON, LMT, CMT Instructor/Therapist 3
