Mandate of ACEI Responsible for actively identifying opportunities for the University of Calgary to encourage and improve academic entrepreneurship, technology transfer and innovation. Emerged out of the Graduate Education Task Force Advisory to Ed McCauly, VP Research Comprised of faculty from across our campuses, industry representatives and professional staff 2014-2015 Goals: Development of broader ACEI; reflecting campus diversity Broad stakeholder engagement [recommended] Strategic Plan for Entrepreneurship & Innovation Summer 2015

ACEI Aspirations Make the UofC the entrepreneurial university in Canada by 2020 Focus on entrepreneurial thinking Broad-based academic entrepreneurship opportunities Change culture to enable, support and reward faculty & students for problem-driven research, entrepreneurship and innovation activities Increase collaboration with outside partner organizations Increase positive impact on society/industry Alternative but not: mandatory approach to research, teaching and engagement Opt in Augments traditional approach instead of replacing it

Albert Einstein Network Development CURIOSITY DRIVEN RESEARCH PROBLEM DRIVEN RESEARCH Problem Driven Research (PDR) is extrinsically motivated and addresses issues from outside stakeholders using fundamental and applied research approaches. As a service to the community, Problem Driven Research is inherently collaborative and provides research solutions to businesses, government and non- government organizations.
