AMP NETCONNECT Data Center Cabling Solutions Modern business and administrative environments require today more and more sophisticated IT services, what leads to an increasing demand for data provision and storage. A lot of servers and data storage devices are needed to cover all required applications and it makes sense for big corporate or public organizations to concentrate all required equipment in one place as a Data Center. Moreover IT Service (IT SP s) and Storage Service (SSG s) host equipment centralized for several companies as outsourced service, what also requires high performance Data Centers. But owing to this concentration of all services to one location, the reliability and availability of the data center becomes very important. Just imagine if a centralized service fails, the whole company or organization is missing this service, what can lead to a serious business downtimes and related huge costs. For this reason the passive infrastructure (the data center cabling system) is a very important objective as it has to provide high speed and long term reliable links between all involved equipment. The international standards for cabling solutions have addressed all those trends and developed a new part of the cabling standard (EN 50173-5) for data center solutions. Most important cabling related objectives are: Highest Quality and Reliability As in case of Structured Cabling Systems for LAN s, the passive infrastructure plays an important role for the overall reliability of a Data Center. Only high quality solutions are the basis for lowest possible downtimes and service outages. High Performance to support various kinds of services Data Centers have to serve a wide variety of services what need to be supported by the cabling infrastructure. It is important to consider not only the required applications of today, but also those which are coming in future as well. Shortest deployment time for Moves, Adds and Changes The initial setup time for servers and data storage equipment is an important operational cost factor in Data Centers. Moreover any required time for later Moves, Adds and Changes need to be kept as short as possible as this means an interruption of services. Highest Density Data Centers are implemented in environmentally controlled areas what makes any required space expensive. Higher density options reduce the amount of floor space, rack space, and the associated costs. Integration into the Infrastructure Management Intelligent Cabling Solutions gives the advantage to be integrated into the overall infrastructure management. This provides enhanced control about all assets and increases the reliability and availability of the data center drastically. AMP NETCONNECT has the complete solution for you! Beside of the classical cabling systems, AMP NETCONNECT developed the MPO Fiber Optic and MRJ 21 Copper Connectivity Solutions, which provide the necessary components for a quick and easy installation of high performance Data Center and Storage Area Network cabling infrastructures. All solutions can be integrated into the AMPTRAC Intelligent Infrastructure Management System (IIMS). Tyco / Electronics Page 1 of 5

The MPO Fiber Solution terminates 12 fibers in one MPO connector, which is similar in size to one SC simplex connector. Modular cassettes transition the 12 fibers of the MPO connector to MT-RJ, MT-RJ SECURE, LC or SC type interfaces. The MRJ 21 Copper System terminates high-performance Powersum 25-pair cable to one MRJ 21 connector, which replaces up to 12 RJ45 connectors. Cassettes break out the cabling to standards-based wiring to support technologies like PoE and VoIP while providing easy migration to Gigabit Ethernet. The AMPTRAC Intelligent Infrastructure Management System optimizes data center port utilization by accurately tracking and documenting changes as they occur, enabling proactive monitoring, preventing costly errors and downtime and increasing productivity. The easy-to-implement hardware and AMPTRAC/iTRACS cutting-edge software can be integrated into any new or existing network. Data Center Structure: - Entrance Facility (EF) - provider demarcation point and service equipment Main Distribution Area (MDA) - Central Connection point for the entire Datacenter - Location of Main Cross-Connect (MC) Horizontal Distribution Area (HDA) - Distribution point for the cabling that serves the equipment areas Distribution Area (EDA) - Houses Electronics equipment like Servers, Switches, Telecom s Zone Distribution Area (ZDA) - Like Consolidation Point (CP) - Includes cabling from MDA to EF, HDA, TR - Defined as cabling from Horizontal Cross-Connect (HC) to the Distribution - Star topology with termination on HC in HDA or MDA Offices, Operations Center Support Rooms HC Telecom Room HC HDA HC HC Equip. Storage Area Devices etc. Primary EDA MC MDA Scondary ZDA There is no general rule, which type of cabling solution has to be implemented where. It is important to perform an detailed analyses about today s and possible future requirements and services in the data center and afterwards to prepare a careful and future proof design. Making the right decisions and investment will initially save time, money, and frustration in the near term and minimize disruptive upgrades in the future. As a guideline, it can be assumed that the Main Distribution Area (MDA) and the cabling between MDA and HDA (in fact the data center backbone) have to be designed with highest possible performance (OM3 Fiber Solutions or Category 6 Shielded Twisted Pair to support 10GigaBit applications). The cabling between HDA and EDA (which includes also the ZDA) is the more application oriented part and the area with most moves, adds and changes. Flexibility, shortest deployment time and highest density are here the main objective and plug-and-play solutions like MPO Fiber and MRJ21 Copper systems are a cost effective alternative to classical cabling systems. The new designed MRJ-21 Connector is optimized for high speed data transmissions like GigaBit Ethernet. The 48 position interface is factory pre-terminated to multipair power-sum cables in different lengths. For the installation in data centers, those pre-terminated and pre-tested trunk cable assemblies only need to be plugged into the rear side of a patch panel. The corresponding Patch Panels and Snap-in Modules provide sure transmission of 6 times GigaBit Ethernet (4-pairs) or 12 times Fast Ethernet (2-pairs) via just one MRJ-21 Connector. Highest density with up to 48 RJ-45 1000Base-T Ports is provided, which are contacted by 8 MRJ-21 Connectors to the rear side. Service Presentation Panels are created by use of hybrid fan-out cable assemblies with 6 or 12 RJ-45 Plugs to one MRJ- 21 Module. AMPTRAC enabled Patch Panels are also available for a later easy integration of the solution into the Infrastructure Management. AMP NETCONNECT warrants the sure transmission of: PBX, X.21, V.11, S0 (ISDN), Up0, CSMA-CD 10/100/1000 (Ethernet), Token Ring (4-100Mbit/s), ATM LAN 155Mbit/s. MRJ-21 Patch Panels and Snap-in Modules All MRJ-21 Patch Panels feature high-density RJ45 Ports to the front and MRJ-21 Connectors to the rear. The range of 1U panels are available in different designs: 48 Port Angled (eliminates the need of horizontal cable management) 24 or 48 Port Straight Modular MRJ-21 Snap-in Cassettes Classical or AMPTRAC enabled MRJ-21 Trunk & Fan-out Cable Assemblies MRJ-21 Cables Assemblies are highest quality factory terminated and 100% tested before shipment, what provides guaranteed performance after fast and easy installation. x-1499515-x MRJ-21 to MRJ-21, 180 cable exit x-1499510-x MRJ-21 to MRJ-21, 45 cable exit x-1499516-x MRJ-21 to RJ-21 (Telco), 180 cable exit x-1499520-x MRJ-21 to 6xRJ-45 (1000Base-T) x-1499521-x MRJ-21 to 12xRJ-45 (100Base-T) x denotes length: 0- -1: 1m 1- -0: 10m 0- -2: 2m 2- -0 20m 0- -3: 3m 3- -0: 30m 0- -5: 5m 5- -0: 50 m (other lengths available upon request) MRJ-21/MRJ21 MRJ-21/RJ-21 (Telco) MRJ-21/ RJ-45 Fanout Assembly Tyco / Electronics Page 3 of 5

MPO Fiber Optic Cabling Solution Whether the distances between devices are just a few or hundreds of meters, or whether the data rates are 100 Mbit/s, 1 Gbit/s or even 10 Gbit/s, the MPO optical fiber solution is an excellent choice. Standard, basic, modular components are the key to fast deployment, simple installation, capital-effectiveness and network flexibility. Pre-terminated trunk cables, breakout cassettes, and cable assemblies are the basic modular components needed for a complete network. Trunk cables are pre-terminated at the factory in standard high-density MPO connectors and 100% tested prior to shipment. Each push-pull MPO terminates 12 optical fibers in a single connector similar in size to one SC simplex connector. Once in place, the cable can be connected into patch panels, twelve fibers at a click. A wide range of MPO Fiber Cassettes are available in order to provide the transition to other industry standard interfaces like SC, MT-RJ or LC Connectors. Each cassette is available with flipped or straight pairs.
