Yokogawa s leadership continues with fieldbus YOKOGAWA PRIDES ITSELF ON BEING ON THE LEADING EDGE OF PROCESS CONTROL COMMUNICATIONS. We re no strangers to digital communications. We introduced our hybrid analog/digital BRAIN protocol in 1987 and brought our users the benefits of the analog/digital HART protocol soon after (refer to the fieldbus comparison table on the inside front cover). When it comes to the dictionary of digital communications, Yokogawa literally helped write the book. Our commitment to fieldbus goes back to 1984, when we first took an active role in the IEC and ISA committees formulating the fieldbus standard. From 1989 through 1993, we were executive committee members of the International Fieldbus Consortium and participants in its field trials. We continued our development efforts as founding members of the InterOperable System Project in 1992 and its successor, the Fieldbus Foundation two years later. Our hard work has borne fruit, with the incorporation of FOUNDATION fieldbus into products that feature the reliability and quality that users around the world have come to recognize as one of the key success factors for their plant s operation. The next generation of plant network technologies is here today! You can be sure that those qualities are present in every facet of our fieldbus instruments and systems, right down to the silicon in each of them, since Yokogawa was the first industrial automation company to manufacture chips based on the current fieldbus standards. What is FOUNDATION fieldbus? FOUNDATION fieldbus is an all-digital, bi-directional communications link among field devices such as transmitters, flowmeters, valve positioners and analyzers and control systems, such as YOKOGAWA S CENTUM TM CS Series. This communication link will allow valuable process information from intelligent field devices to be shared with host systems in order to help you reduce cost and improve plant performance. Many people think of fieldbus as the Local Area Network (LAN) for the plant floor. We think of it as the next generation of plant network technologies. In addition to the device level fieldbus, there is a High-Speed Ethernet(HSE) network, which allows even more intelligent devices - like PLC s and I/O devices - to share valuable information throughout the network. Fieldbus represents a major step beyond the capabilities of analog 4-20 ma and hybrid protocols such as BRAIN and HART, in which a digital signal is superimposed on an analog current. All the benefits of previous technologies are incorporated into FOUNDATION fieldbus. Improving each life cycle phase of your plant. Planning Phase Utilizing FOUNDATION fieldbus technology, our next generation technology allows you to integrate your plant assets on a single plant automation system with appropriate field networks from traditional 4-20 ma signals to the latest digital communication. You can now connect devices from multiple suppliers without custom software and these network-based systems allow for smaller control rooms, smaller cabinet rooms and more information productivity throughout your plant. Installation Phase Yokogawa s plant network technology offers reduced installation and material cost by replacing the traditional one-to-one wiring scheme with networking or multi-drop configuration while intelligent field instruments make commissioning and plant startup much faster and less expensive. Operation Phase Our technology integrates various installations of control functions into one system to effectively optimize control of your plant. In addition, a unified human-machine interface (HMI) is provided for your operation. Function Blocks allow control functions to migrate into field devices allowing control functions to move to the field. Maintenance Phase Our solutions allow for the reporting of self-diagnostics, calibration, and environmental conditions of field instruments without disturbing the plant control. Since it uses intelligent instruments, your stock for spare or replacement instruments can be dramatically reduced. Renovation Phase Enhanced functionality of field instruments is endless. Yokogawa s plant network technology uses standard off-the-shelf instruments, which make it very cost effective and easy for you to extend the life of your plant. By simply connecting a new device, you can immediately benefit from advanced functionality. And, upgrade costs are reduced because network-based systems are modular, which means they are done on-line. 4 5
