Introduction Banner Document Management Suite (BDMS) is the baseline Banner product for imaging and document management. The Ellucian and EMC Corporation partnership provides an integrated document management and imaging solution that is based on the ApplicationXtender platform. BDMS integrates ApplicationXtender with Banner to provide the following functionality for both Banner and non-banner users: Imaging Document management Enterprise workflow Output management Portable document collections Storage management BDMS 8.4 requires ApplicationXtender 6.50.124. This document lists the hardware and software requirements for required and optional components. Information is compiled from EMC sources. Version-specific updates may be available from EMC. June 2012 Banner Document Management Suite 8.4 5 Introduction
6 Banner Document Management Suite 8.4 June 2012 Introduction
Hardware and software guidelines for required components ApplicationXtender database components and Banner integration components are stored and run within the Banner database in Oracle. BDMS is delivered in a model similar to other Banner modules, where database objects, tables, and packages are contained within a schema specific to the BDMS module. The ApplicationXtender minimum infrastructure (no Web) is the Banner database, file storage, and a Windows system to run the EMC License Server service. More infrastructure components may be desired for scalability or for other functions such as Web access, full-text indexing, and output capture. BDMS 8.4 requires ApplicationXtender 6.50.124. ApplicationXtender 6.5 (6.50.124) Processor Available hard disk space Memory Pentium PC. A faster processor increases ApplicationXtender Document Manager productivity. Depends on the workstation type and third-party components. For example, an ApplicationXtender Administrator workstation requires up to 455 MB. ApplicationXtender also needs additional space on the drive to store temporary files during the installation process. Retrieval workstations: 64 MB RAM minimum. Scanning workstation: Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 must have at least 128 MB of RAM. Operating system Windows XP Professional: x86 SP3 Windows Server 2008: x86 SP2, x64 SP2, R2 Windows Server 2003: SP2, R2 SP2, R2 x64 SP2 Windows Vista SP2 Windows 7 Note: Novell networking is supported if the NetWare client is installed on the workstations with ApplicationXtender components. Other required software EMC License Server 6.50.127 Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 Scanner drivers Note: Scanner drivers might be included with the scanner or can be obtained from the scanner manufacturer. In addition to ApplicationXtender scanner support files, a scanner driver specific to the scanner must be installed. ApplicationXtender Administrator 6.5 (6.50.124) Processor Available hard disk space Memory Operating system Minimum CPU required to support the operating system Up to 40 MB, depending on the operating system 128 MB of RAM or the minimum RAM required to support the operating system, whichever is higher Windows XP Professional: x64 SP3 Windows Server 2003: SP2, R2 SP2, R2 x64 SP2 Windows Server 2008: x86, x64 SP2, R2 Windows Vista: x86 SP2, x64 SP2 Windows 7: x86, x64 8 Banner Document Management Suite 8.4 June 2012 Hardware and software guidelines for required components
Other required software Network access to EMC License Server 6.50.127 Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 ApplicationXtender Application Generator, if you plan to upgrade a database or start using a new one License Server 6.5 (6.50.127) All workstations that access ApplicationXtender and Web servers that run Application Xtender Web Access must have network access to the computer where the License Server is installed. Note License Server version 6.5 is supported on VMware ESX/ESXi Server 3.5 and 4.0 (vsphere). When you install License Server, you actually install two services: EMC ELM (Electronic Licensing Management) Service ApplicationXtender License Service Operating system Windows Server 2008: 32-bit, 64-bit, R2 64-bit Windows Server 2003: SP2, R2 SP2 Windows Vista SP2 If you are using DiskXtender with ApplicationXtender, you still need to use the License Server provided with DiskXtender. To verify EMC licenses, run ApplicationXtender Administrator and select the License Server node. Click Verify and then click Details. File storage Documents, images, and any objects managed by ApplicationXtender are maintained on file storage. File storage can be shared RAID drives, SAN (Storage Area Network) or NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices, HSM (Hierarchical Storage Management), or integrated storage management systems such as DiskXtender. Typical image file storage requirements for documents associated with BDMS are about 7GB per 100,000 images for letter-size, black and white, 300 dpi, single-sided, group 4 Tiff files, which is the most common format for monochrome document imaging. This represents an average file size of 70KB, which you can use for rough network impact estimates. The following file storage systems are supported: Network file server Shared network drive EMC DiskXtender (optical, WORM, tape, DVD-RAM, and CD-ROM) Certified scanners Refer to the following link for a list of all scanners that are supported for ApplicationXtender: http://www.scannerdrivers.com Note You can use other scanners with BDMS, but if an ISIS driver is not available for a particular scanner model, you might have to scan the documents to a separate directory, and then have ApplicationXtender retrieve the scanned document from that directory. 14 Banner Document Management Suite 8.4 June 2012 Hardware and software guidelines for required components
