GUJARAT TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY, AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT Course Curriculum ADVANCE PATTERN MAKING (Code: 3335105) Diploma programmes in which this course is offered Semester in which offered Computer Aided Costume Design and Dress Making 3 rd Semester 1. RATIONALE This course imparts the knowledge of advanced pattern designing using flat pattern technique and draping technique. It is useful for the students for advanced pattern design and fashion designing. This knowledge is useful for preparing fashioned garments at par with the industry. Thus it is a key course for costume designers and hence students should develop mastery over it. 2. COMPETENCY (Programme Outcome according to NBA Terminology): The course content should be taught and with the aim to develop different types of skills so that students are able to acquire following competency: Prepare dress and trouser blocks. Prepare appropriate patterns to design fashioned garments. 3. 4. DETAILED COURSE CONTENTS Unit Unit I Drafting of Children Block. Unit II Drafting of Men s Shirts. Unit III Draping of Torso Block. Unit IV Adaptation of Indian Kurta from Torso Block. Major Learning Outcomes (Course Outcomes as per NBA terminology) 1a. Develop different styles of upper garments for children. 2a. Develop different styles of shirts for men. 3a. Develop torso block by draping method. 4a. Construct variations of Indian kurta from Torso block. Topics and Sub-topics 1.1 Drafting of children block for boy (8-10 years). 1.1.1 Development of basic children Shirt from bodice block and its variations. 1.2 Drafting of children block for girl (6-8 years). 1.2.1Girl s block variation Dress/frock etc. 2.1 Drafting of Men s Shirt and its variations. 2.1.1 Drafting of formal shirt. 2.1.2 Drafting of casual shirt. 3.1 Development of torso/dress block by draping method. 3.1.1 Development of Shift (semi fit) and box fit (loose fit) from sheath fit(close fit) torso by using flat pattern making technique and development of their slopers for design adaptation. 4.1 Adaptation of dress blocks into Indian Kurta, princess line kurta etc. In different fits (fitted, semi fitted and loose fit). 5. SUGGESTED LIST OF PRACTICAL/EXERCISES The practical/exercises should be properly designed and implemented with an attempt to develop different types of practical skills (Course Outcomes in psychomotor and affective domain) so that students are able to acquire the competencies (Programme Outcomes). Following is the list of practical exercises for guidance. Note: Here only Course Outcomes in psychomotor domain are listed as practical/exercises. However, if these practical/exercises are completed appropriately, they would also lead to development of Programme Outcomes/Course Outcomes in affective domain as given in a common list at the beginning of curriculum document for this programme. Faculty should refer to that common list and should ensure that students also acquire those Programme Outcomes/Course Outcomes related to affective domain. S. SUGGESTED LIST OF PROPOSED STUDENT ACTIVITIES i. Students will maintain a Pattern portfolio along with test fit. ii. Students will maintain a journal as per the exercises listed above.

8. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONAL STRETAGIES (If Any) i. Students should be asked to visit the shops of readymade garments and measure the important dimensions of the garments of different types and fits for children and man for different sizes and prepare a report on it. ii.
