Backup & Restore Backing Up and Restoring STX Databases For Non-OLS Subscribers

STX: DATABASE BACKUPS & RESTORES Your STX data contains extremely important information that is vital to the success of your business. Always safeguard your STX data by routinely doing nightly backups, at the end of each business day. You must use the STX Backups feature to make backups of your STX data. Failure to properly back up your data may result in lost or corrupted data. We urge you to maintain copies of each backup on a flash drive or other device in the event that your computers are stolen or the hard drives crash. If your Online Services subscription is current, you do not need to back up with the STX Backups feature. The backups are being automatically taken and held in a remote location. Each backup is in 'real-time' and can easily be restored onto a new or temporary computer, meaning you never have to worry about the safety of your STX data. BACKUPS: CREATING AND SAVING A BACKUP The Backups option can be found in the STX Menu. A new backup is automatically created on a weekly basis as long as the STX Server computer is left on. However, a new backup can be created at any time by going to the Backups option in the STX Menu from any computer using the STX software. Only one backup file can be created at any given time. To create a new backup, click Backup Now. The new backup will appear in the Backup list. To save a copy of an existing backup, click Save To 2

Saved copies of the backups may be created from the STX Server only. Navigate to where you would like to save the backup copy and click Save. The saved copy of the STX backup will appear where specified. BACKUPS: EMPLOYEE SECURITY Employee security options have been added, allowing the employee to perform the backup functions. To enable the employee security, go to Setup: Employee: Security. The Backups security options are found under STX Menu: Backups. Check the items for which you wish to allow the employee access. Click Save when finished. DATA RESTORE If you are currently an Online Services Subscriber, you MUST contact the Technical Support team for assistance with a data restore. Do NOT perform a data restore without assistance. You WILL cause harm to your database. 3

Only a Server computer with a valid license can perform a restore. Restoring will automatically roll-forward all information since the backup was taken, as long as you are restoring to the same computer where the backup was originally created. The STXRestore application is automatically installed in the Applications folder. If you are restoring on the computer where the data backup was originally created, double-click the STXRestore application to begin the data restore process. When opening the STXRestore application to perform the data restore, the following window will appear. Using the popup menu, select which backup file to restore and click the Restore button. Click Restore to proceed with the data restore. Click Cancel to leave the existing data untouched. Make sure the STX software is NOT being used on any computer while restoring the data. Each computer MUST quit STX in order for the data restore to function properly. Type the Administrator Name and Password for the computer. 4

Once the data has been restored, quit the STXRestore application to begin using the STX software. DATA RESTORE If you are currently an Online Services Subscriber, you MUST contact the Technical Support team for assistance with a data restore. Do NOT perform a data restore without assistance. You WILL cause harm to your database. NEW SERVER RESTORE If you are restoring the data onto a NEW Server computer, you will need to place a saved copy of the last backup created from the original Server computer onto the new Server computer awaiting the restore. You will also need to obtain a new STX License Key before the data restore can be completed. Please contact our Technical Support team for assistance in obtaining a new STX License Key. SERVER RESTORE Locate the saved copy of the last backup created from the original Server computer. Double-click the backup file to begin the data restore process. If the new Server computer has never had STX installed, you will be asked to enter a valid STX License Key. Enter the new STX License Key you just obtained. Before proceeding, make sure the STX software is NOT being used on any computer while restoring the data. Each computer MUST quit STX in order for the data restore to function properly. 5
