MINISTRY INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE COUNSELING TRAINING In addition to providing Theological Training, Ministry International Institute (MII) founded by J. Tony Slay is also committed to providing quality training for those who feel God s call to counsel. The counseling curriculum and the staff of MII are dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ and believe with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God that lives can be changed and hearts can be healed. The counseling curriculum was developed by the National Christian Counselors Association, where the students will earn their counseling license. However, the counseling program, the necessary ministerial license and the earned diploma will be through Ministry International Institute. The training you receive provides a deep spiritual insight into understanding human behavior and relating to others; however, a true knowledge of God and our identity in Christ are our greatest keys to good mental health. The role of a counselor is to help clients see the truth, because truth sets people free when they believe it and obey it.(john 8:31,32) While being diligent in studying the course material, the students are expected to pray, seek wisdom from the Holy Scriptures and guidance from the Holy Spirit. Personal maturity and a closer relationship with God are the gratifying side effects of learning to be a counselor. You may enter this program with any level of education and you may progress to the highest level, which is the doctorate. The length of time and the number of courses will depend on the level of education with which you start the program. The requirements for each level of entry of education will be explained later. Specific licenses from NCCA will be granted after each level of diploma is earned. Most students go through the program individually, but if anyone desires to teach this program to others as they are taking courses themselves, they may do so after completing the course called Creation Therapy, which is a detailed course regarding temperament. That person will then go through the program as a student-teacher. The representative from MII will continue to supervise the program and order the course material from NCCA. The teacher will be responsible to give the tests, keep track of grades, and work with the MII rep to apply for the licenses of the students. MII is accredited by the Accrediting Commission International (ACI), the world s largest private non-governmental accrediting agency. ACI accredits, according to accepted educational standards, private educational institutions and exempt Bible Colleges and Seminaries. MII has not sought U.S. Department of Education recognition at this time, nor does ACI or MII guarantee the acceptance of academic credit by other colleges, universities, private educational institutions or other Bible colleges or schools. The skills, counseling license and diplomas earned are for use in the various fields of Christian ministry and are not to be confused with secular degrees which may necessitate different educational requirements. MII is not a job placement service and makes no claims regarding employment.

COURSE DESCRIPTION The goal of this program is to provide training that will equip Ministers and/or Clinical Counselors with effective, practical, Christian counseling skills that will enable the candidates to obtain a license from the National Christian Counselors Association at the conclusion of this program and a degree from Ministry International Institute or other specified colleges. In addition to the student learning practical skills, strategies, and techniques for counseling, one of the greatest benefit from this program will be the growth of the counselor. This Christian curriculum is written from the perspective that the Holy Spirit is the counselor, we are only the instrument or tool which He uses. PHASE I Basic Christian Counseling 3 Credits (Takes approximately 1 month to finish) The student will be provided with an overview of the Big Eight (types of secular counseling or therapeutic methods). The difference between Christian and secular counseling will be covered-- looking at goals, techniques, and several other topics, such as the dangers and pitfalls of counseling. Creation Therapy 7 Credits (Takes approximately 3 months to finish) Because we are fearfully and wonderfully made, knit together in our mother s womb, we have a God-created in-born temperament with strengths and weaknesses which are unique to our temperament. This course teaches about Temperament Theory and uses temperament as the basis for beginning counseling. Each person has needs according to their temperament, and as a counselor, you will help your counselees, not only understand their own needs, but know how to understand the needs of those with whom they are in relationship, i.e., family, co-workers, etc. The course is based on the Arno Profile System (APS), which is a temperament profile devised by Drs. Richard and Phyllis Arno from Saratoga Academic Christian College.. Students will counsel 10 counselees during Phase I using the APS temperament survey and will counsel 15 counselees using the APS survey Phase II and III. Christian Psychology and Counseling 3 Credits (Takes approximately 2 months to finish) The text is 300 pages in length. The student will receive information regarding mental, personality and emotional disorders, alcoholism with nutrient recommendations, marriage and family counseling, human sexuality, a chapter promoting growth and spiritual freedom, chapters on various emotional and physical conditions and the nutrient suggested to aid in the treatment thereof; satanic ritual abuse; Bible therapy and scriptures for the 12 step program. This course includes many questionnaires for the counselee, as well as, many step-by-step strategies for counseling the various problems. Ministerial Credentials may be obtained during this period through Ministry International Inc., P. O. Box 1322, Powell, TN 37849-1322; 865-938-5544;

PHASE II Mastering Pastoral Counseling Utilizing Temperament 3 Credits (Takes approx. 2 months) The text is 225 pages in length. The student will receive specific information regarding (1) various types of stress in the life of the Christian, with effective stress management techniques; (2) the ministry of the church as a caring community, and when they may become dysfunctional; (3) family relations, i.e., parenting, marriage counseling, premarital preparation, children with special problems; and (4) counseling various crisis in the life of a Christian, using the Biblical approach, specifically helping the depressed and addressing suicide and death. Temperament Case Studies 3 Credits (Takes approx. 1 month) The text is 154 pages in length and give examples of how others have counseled using the APS surveys. Students will need to administer 15 APS surveys to counselees during Phase II and III as they learn first-hand the counseling model used by the N.C.C.A. members and graduates. Counseling the Codependent: A Christian Perspective Utilizing Temperament 3 Credits (Takes approx. 2 months to finish) The text is 160 pages in length.
