DRIVER PROFILE - MICHAEL PETTIFORD LOUISVILLE, CO Currently: In 2009, setting lap records at PIR, PPIR, MMP, and HPR. Michael is the SCCA Club Racing, Rocky Mountain Division (RMD), National Champion in T1 and T2 Classes. In 2008, Michael was the SCCA Club Racing (RMD), NationaI Champion in T1, T2, & SSB Classes. Michael set lap records at 5 tracks, and is the First Driver in SCCA history to win three Division National Championships in a single year! In 2007, Michael was the (RMD) NationaI Champion in T1 and T2 Classes, and 2 nd in SSB Class. In 2006, he was the (RMD) NationaI Champion in T1 Class, 2 nd in SSB Class, and 3 rd in T2 Class. In 2005, he was the (RMD) National Champion in T1 and SSB Classes, and 2 nd in T2 Class. In 2004, he was the (RMD), National Champion in T2 Class, 2 nd in SSB Class, and 3 rd in T1 Class. In 2003, he was the (RMD), National Champion in T2 Class, National Driver of the Year, and 2 nd in SSB Class, finishing 5 th in SSB Class at the SCCA Runoffs. In the last nineteen years, he won twenty four RMD National Championships! In the last eleven years, he finished in the top five, six times at the SCCA Runoffs. Previously: Starting in 1974, Michael has had a steady stream of prominent racing finishes in cars, trucks, motorcycles, and all-terrain vehicles. From his 1st autocross win in 1974, to Colorado Drag Bike Champion in 1979, to 2nd in Supertwins GTO Class with a Ducati 999R in 2006, and the Open Production Class in 1983 & 1984, and 3 time MRA top ten in 1981, 1983, and 1986, to 2nd in Class at the 24 hrs of Nelson Ledges in 1989, and 2nd overall in the Aspen 6 hr in 1985, to this year finishing 4 th in the 1205 Pro Class in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on a Buell motorcycle. Mike has a very broad background in racing. His first year in SCCA PRO RACING, Michael was the 1991 Rookie of the Year, finishing fourth in the Truck Guard/Shellzone Challenge series, with three podium finishes. In 1992, a strong competitor in the World Challenge B Class, Michael finished fifth in overall points, including two podium finishes. He also competed in 1997, 1998, and 2000 for 12 starts in World Challenge. Personal: Michael has been the President of GO 4 IT Racing Schools since 1985 and the President of Positive Air, Inc., from 1997-2000. GO 4 IT Racing Schools is a high performance safety and racing school specializing in basic through competition techniques for cars and motorcycles. Positive Air, Inc. was a non-profit corporation that promoted self-esteem and a drug-free, high performance lifestyle to motivate youths to succeed in life.
