Introduction to MwayPro Composite Covers The inherent properties of composite materials are ideal for the manhole environment. Our covers are extremely durable, lightweight, inert so they will not corrode, not electrically conductive and have low thermal conductivity. Built on patented THRUBEAM technology, MwayPro has developed a range of generic covers suitable for pedestrian areas (B125)and vehicular areas(d400). In addition, MwayPro project managed bespoke design services will use our patented technology design alternative size, shape and also modular solution to meet customer requirements. Please contact us at www.mwaypro.com Our covers are manufactured with an anti-slip/ skid surface that is extremely durable and is equivalent in value (PSVR60>) to a high quality road surface, and it maintains its non slip properties even when wet. Our covers are being adopted by companies who have increasing litigation concerns and a responsible attitude towards public or employee Health and Safety. Equally, companies require better performance from their manhole covers at significantly reduced cost of ownership, eg. whole life cost. Our covers offer important benefits over covers made with traditional materials. If you need a cover that can provide reassuring security, is fully sealable and can support and enhance data-logging and monitoring of underground resources.
Whole Life Cost In a recent study carried out by the Lancaster University MBA Department it was identified that the MwayPro ThruBeam composite covers will offer the end users Substantial Cost Savings when compared to the more traditional manhole covers (e.g. ductile iron), over the useful life of the cover installations. This is of course further enhanced by the MwayPro 15 year Product Replacement Guarantee (conditions apply). A CASE STUDY is used to explain how a company which has a 15,000 manhole cover estate in its area of operations can save in excess of $19.92 Million over a period of 15 years. They took as key factors: Durability, Strength, Anti Corrosion Qualities, Permanent Anti Slip/Skid Qualities, Weight of covers, Useful Life of Covers, Carbon Footprint, Costs of Acquisition, Installation and Maintenance. ASSUMPTIONS: Class D400 Cover and Frame, conforming to EN124 : 1994, installed on a moderately busy carriage way Ductile Iron 23.62 x23.62 at $176 acquisition cost, useful life of 5 year. Composite ThruBeam 23.62 x23.62 at $640 acquisition cost, useful life 15 years (including guarantee conditions apply), which maintain their nonslip/skid value of PSVR60> throughout the period. Installation Cost $720 the same for either ductile or Composite cover/frame set. In the case of the 5 year life ductile cover installation, over the 15 year comparable period 45,000 installations will have been made, at a cost of 45,000 x (110+450) = $40.32 Million In the case of the 15 year life Composite cover installation, over the same 15 year comparable period 15,000 installations will have been made, at a cost of 15,000 x (300+450) = $20.40 Million. This results in a saving of $19.92 million!! Which goes to prove that cheap manhole covers are very expensive!! If rates of interest and inflation over the period of 15 years were to be taken into account in both acquisition and installation cost, together with the necessary maintenance, the potential theft and cost of insurance, not to mention indemnity risks, then the case of Composite covers over Ductile Iron covers becomes overwhelming. If all of this is then calculated on a Present Value (PV) basis it only makes the case stronger. It is our contention that when manhole covers/frames are bought on price only at point of procurement, the WHOLE LIFE COST equation needs to be considered. The Chief Executive Officer and the Finance Director of any company that purchases these products should be aware of this scenario. ThruBeam ThruBeam is a new generation of composite cover, and has been designed to provide a modern solution in the manhole cover market to meet the increasingly sophisticated requirements of our society. As the high speed flow of information becomes more important, telecoms companies are increasingly investing in expensive and technically advanced equipment that is located below ground level in the form of fibre optic cabling for our modern advanced communication networks; water utilities spend millions of pounds on upgrading current water supply and waste water systems to reduce wastage. ThruBeam T E C H N O L O G Y To protect this investment a very heavy and cheap metal cover has historically been used. This metal product has a variable lifespan, impacted by environmental conditions. For example, in coastal areas, corrosion rates increase significantly reducing the effective life and resulting in additional installation costs for replacement. During times of high raw material prices there is an increased likelihood of metal covers being stolen. This can increase the likelihood for accidents. Security In the last few years security has become a major issue that concerns all companies that own/manage sensitive installations, i.e. water, gas, oil, electricity, telecoms, airports, ports, CCTV installations and many more besides. It is a real concern that so many sensitive installations remain so clearly unprotected. Tiered solutions for security are available in the ThruBeam range of manhole covers, which we would be happy to discuss with our clients. Road Safety When wet, worn metal covers can cause serious accidents for pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists alike. MwayPro ThruBeam provides a permanent high-grade anti slip/skid surface, with a value PSVR60> when wet.

Dual level tread pattern which complies with European standard EN124 : 1994, tread root is co-planar with road surface. Client logo/individual branding can be added as an option. Our round covers have been designed to resist the eccentric and horizontal forces that can rotate them and cause displacement of the cover. MwayPro covers will not spin or become dislodged from its frame as a result of traffic movement. Colour: Grey as standard. Please see B125 for other options Lifting points comply with EN124 : 1994 and interface with 3 function tool. Frame specifications The frames for our D400/40ton covers have been manufactured using the same advanced composite structure and have the same properties as our composite covers. The non corrosive properties of the frame will reduce the need for installation replacements. The MwayPro frame design ensures that embedding the composite frame into the supporting structure maintains the installation in compression, preventing displacement and cracking. Its high torsion rigidity with close tolerance manufacture will resist distortion from eccentric forces. The frame has a depth of 5.91, which is the minimum depth that MwayPro recommends for D400/40ton covers. The top edge will be co-planar with the road surface. Recesses for the bolting mechanism are pre-moulded into the frame. Frame is designed with full face seating improving installation, and stopping the cover rocking once installed. The frame is provided with a recess to accommodate an internal skirt which is suitable for the back fill installation method.
Sealing Seal to prevent dirt, sand and water from entering the cavity. Water tight with a 50mm head of water whilst loaded in accordance with EN124 : 1994 to 50kN simultaneously. Temperature operating ranges -20 C to 100 C. Seal can be replaced without tools within two minutes. Seal will remain effective for in excess of 100 removal/replacement operations. Seal is resistant to water, salt and commonly used anti-freeze products. It is not possible to remove the cover by hand due to the resistance of the seal. Removal is only possible with the 3 Function Tool Seal to be coloured blue. 3 Function Tool (only required for sealed covers) A Seal Breaker is added to the existing Lifting Aid Tool. It will work on both restrained and unrestrained options with user needing no additional equipment regarding the removal of a cover. It is a combined lifting aid, seal breaker and security plug remover. Security Plug Security plugs (one per key-housing) offer a water tight seal option. These can be removed using the standard 3 function tool. The plugs are manufactured from quality material which compliments our product range. We would strongly recommend that security plugs are fitted in areas likely to see high volumes of foot traffic to avoid heels becoming lodged in the key housing.
