About Wake County The County employs approximately 3,800 employees, has experienced minimal turnover for the last five years, offers a competitive benefits package and is an award winning leader in wellness initiatives such as an onsite employee health center. Wake County offers a comprehensive benefit package as well as other programs, resources, policies and practices that integrate work/life strategies. Our programs have been designed to provide a variety of choices to best fit your needs and the needs of your family. Our benefits range from medical, dental and vision coverage to life insurance options. In addition, we offer a free health center for employees to use. We also offer a variety of retirement savings plans to meet your needs. Consistently rated one of the best places to live and work in America!

Health & Wellness Programs Health Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Care Prescription Drug Plan Wake County offers two Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans, administered by BCBSNC, with varying benefits. The County contributes more than $400.00 toward the monthly cost of coverage for permanent full-time employees and a small portion of dependent coverage. Wake County offers employees two dental plans: Basic and Plus. Employees may choose the Basic Plan (with lower premiums and higher out-of-pocket costs); or the Plus Plan (with higher premiums and lower out-of-pocket costs). Administered by Delta Dental, both options cover diagnostic, preventive and basic services, with the Plus Option providing major services at a higher percentage of benefits for certain services. Under each option participants can visit any dental provider. Through your benefits with Wake County Government, you can choose one of two vision plans provided by EyeMed: the Standard Plan, with lower premiums and higher out-of-pocket costs; or the Premium Plan, with higher premiums and lower outof-pocket costs. Vision insurance is voluntary and employee paid. Wake County offers a prescription drug plan that helps reduce prescription costs, administered by OptumRx. When you enroll in the Health Plan, you are automatically enrolled in the prescription drug plan.

Health & Wellness Programs Life/AD&D Insurance Wake County provides 1x the employee s annual salary, capped at $200,000 in life and AD&D insurance. Employees can purchase supplemental coverage. Supplemental Life Insurance is available to spouses and dependent children. Supplemental AD&D is also available to spouses. Wellness Wake County provides a wellness program to help you and your family get healthy and stay healthy. We offer diabetic testing and management, fitness classes and information on a variety of topics ranging from how to quit smoking to how to incorporate better eating habits into your daily life. Employee Health Center (EHC) Wake County offers an Employee Health Center to employees who are enrolled in Wake County s Health Plan. Our goal is to help you achieve your optimum health. To reach this goal, the Wake Employee Health Center staff is licensed to diagnose, treat and prescribe for a wide variety of common illnesses and injuries. In addition to sick care, employees have access to a full range of health assessment, coaching and disease management services all from two convenient locations at work. Services are free to employees covered by the health plan and do not require an employee to take leave time.

Health & Wellness Programs Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Short-Term Disability Long-term Disability Wake County offers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through ComPsych. The Employee Assistance Program provides work and life resources for you and your eligible family members. The program is employer paid, confidential and available 24/7. Wake County offers short-term disability to eligible employees. You may choose a weekly benefit amount in multiples of $50 from $100 per week to a maximum of $600 per week. The weekly benefit you can select is capped at 66 2/3% of your annual salary. You may also choose either a 15-day or 30-day elimination period. This coverage is 100% paid by employees. Wake County provides long-term disability to eligible employees between their second to fifth years of employment. The plan pays up to 60% of an employee s monthly salary, capped at $1,500 per month.

Retirement Programs Local Government Employees Retirement System (LGERS) 401(k) Regular full-time and part-time employees (including law enforcement officers) are covered under the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System (LGERS). LGERS is a defined benefit plan. Under this type of plan the benefit you receive at retirement is based on a formula. This formula considers your years and months of creditable service, your age, and your average final compensation. Participation is mandatory for all permanent full-time employees. Wake County contributes 7.07% for employees and 7.41% for law enforcement officers (LEOs). Employees contribute 6% on a pre-tax basis. Wake County currently provides a 5% pre-tax contribution to the 401(k) plan for all benefit-eligible employees. The plan is administered through Prudential Retirement and offers both a pre-tax and a Roth 401(k) after-tax option. 457 Wake County offers a 457 Retirement Savings Plan that is administered through ICMA-RC and offers employees a pre-tax contribution option. IRAs for employees and their spouses are also available.

Leave Programs Annual Leave Wake County grants 12 26 days of annual leave* per year for probationary or regular full-time (40- hour work period) employees based on years of service. Holiday Wake County grants 12 paid holidays* per year for probationary or regular full-time (40-hour work period) employees. Shared Leave Wake County employees can donate annual leave to other Wake County employees in need. Employees receive the donation as Sick Leave. *Part-time employees also earn leave on a prorated basis.

ms Work, Life & Education Programs Flexible Work Schedule Most County offices are open for business from the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. Flex-time, compressed work schedule and teleworking options may be utilized by employees with the advance approval of the department head. Community Involvement Leave Wake County provides up to 8 hours per year for involvement with their child in the schools; any volunteer activities in the schools; or any activities in a not-for-profit organization. Tuition Reimbursement Regular employees can apply to receive up to $1,200 annually to cover tuition and books related to accredited college courses. Tuition reimbursement is available after one year of employment with the advance approval of the department head and if there are available funds in the department.

Financial Savings & Planning s & Planning Flexible Spending Accounts Wake County employees may participate in the IRS-established Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for health and dependent care-related expenses. FSAs allow employees to reimburse themselves for eligible expenses and not pay taxes on the reimbursements. College Savings Plan Financial Planning Wake County employees can enroll in the NC 529 College Foundation Savings Plan. Payroll deductions for the college savings plan are an after-tax benefit. The NC 529 plan has 14 investment options to choose from. Financial planning and educational sessions are available for employees provided by Prudential Retirement 401K and ICMA 457 Plans. Free financial planning is also offered by the Local Government Federal Credit Union for Wake County employees who bank with them. All employees have to do is open a checking account for $25.00 to become a member.

Financial Savings & Planning Retirement Planning Wake County provides retirement counseling for employees. Long-term Care Employees may purchase long-term care insurance through UNUM for themselves and other eligible family members. Employees may purchase benefit amounts up to $3,000 per month and may select either a 3 or 6 year duration period for facility benefits. Coverage also includes home health care.

2015 Benefit Summary Rates of Benefits Following is the semi-monthly premium amount you will pay for various levels of your benefits coverage. As you can see, Wake County pays the majority of the total cost; the amount shown in the far left column is your net cost. Your premiums will be prorated if you work part-time.
