ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN FINANCIAL PLANNING (NQF 6) The aim of the Advanced Certificate in Planning is to provide learners with a practical understanding of Financial Planning within a broad context. It offers extensive insight into Financial Planning, and allows for specialisation in different areas. This qualification intends to create access to post-graduate learning. Successful learners will receive an Advanced Certificate in Financial Planning (NQF Level 6) after the successful completion of all the learning programmes. You will also be exempt from the competency exam set by the FPI, for access to your FSA status and allows for FPI student membership at registration. WHAT WILL THE QUALIFICATION ENABLE YOU TO DO? To promote the development of knowledge and skills that is required in the Financial Planning industry. To assist learners to achieve their full potential in the Financial Planning sector. To enhance opportunities for both existing and prospective learners career progression in this sector. Equip learners with the skills and competencies to effectively run their own practice by studying business management and the intricacies of advanced aspects of legislation and taxation. These enabling aspects are imperative for successful application of the principles of Financial Planning and to focus on personal Financial Planning in this specialised qualification. Qualifying learners will have a detailed understanding of personal and corporate Financial Planning and taxation principles, as well as fundamental legal concepts. The qualification aims to develop informed and skilled qualifying learners and is sufficiently flexible to accommodate learners already employed in the Financial Planning sector. LEARNING MATERIAL Every single learning programme on the curriculum has an accompanying Learner Guide, which includes prescribed reading, practical assignments, assessment activities and tutorial letters. This will be sent to you via e-mail once the payment has been made and the registration is approved. In addition, a textbook is also prescribed to supplement the readings (LexisNexis: The South African Financial Planning Handbook). The e-mail will contain the following: Electronic Learner Guide with self-assessments Case study (MS Word format) Summative assessment (written exam) guidelines Order form: LexisNexis textbook In the event that you are unable to understand a question, you can contact us and we will provide you with the contact details of our Academic Manager or a contracted assessor to assist you in answering your queries. FEES 1. Full qualification fee: (2016) R 22 812.00 Payment Options: Two Instalments: R 11 406.00 The first instalment should be paid with registration. The second instalment should be paid before the commencement of Learning Programme 3. Four Instalments: R 6 102.00 (7% interest added) The first instalment should be paid with registration. Each instalment after that should be paid with the commencement of the Learning Programme. ACCREDITATION AND CERTIFICATION Certification Moonstone Business School of Excellence (Pty) Ltd acknowledges that, certification in vocational education and training and the content of the certificate, are regulated by the National Board of Education and governed by the Higher Education Act, 1997 (Act No 101 of 1997) as well as Regulation 1 of the Regulations for the Registration of Private Higher Education Institutions, 2002 (hereafter referred to as the Regulations ). Institutional vocational education and training Learners are awarded a qualification certificate upon the successful completion of all the studies required for the qualification. A student resigning without completing the qualification is given a certificate of resignation, which lists the completed studies and their grades. On request, learners may also be granted a certificate of completed studies while still continuing the programme. The specific qualification certificate will be issued by Moonstone Business School of Excellence. METHOD OF TRAINING Facilitated learning Classroom training will be arranged (for 15 students or more). Learning material will be sent electronically prior to training. This material must be brought to classroom training sessions. During training the learning material will be discussed and candidates will start with the completion of the Portfolio of Evidence (POE). The POE must be handed in on the day of your summative assessment. The summative assessments will be done in one of our national examination centres. MBSE reserves the right to cancel facilitation in any region if registrations are insufficient. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS For access to the Advanced Certificate: Financial Planning (NQF Level 6), learners must be in possession of: 1. An appropriate, accredited NQF Level 5 qualification (preferably the Higher Certificate in Wealth Management: NQF 5). OR 2. An appropriate, accredited Bachelor s degree NQF Level 6 in, for example, commerce, law, finance, accounting, etc. 5
ASSESSMENTS 1. Online Assessment The online assessment needs to be completed on the date as provided on the programme. A step-by-step instruction how to complete the online assessment below: NOTE: You need to register and be approved for the learning programme in question before the online assessment will be available on your online profile. Please do not leave the registration for the day of the deadline. Step-By-Step Guide on how to complete the online assessment: Please follow the link: http://learn.mbse.ac.za/ Log in with your username and password that you created during registration. Should you have any problems to log in after this, please send an e-mail to learning@mbse.ac.za No password enquiries will be dealt with telephonically, for quality-assurance and record-keeping purposes. Note that you need a secure internet connection for this assessment. Any connection failures will result in the assessment failing to load. You will then have to start over. You cannot start the assessment, save and come back to it later. You will need to complete all questions in one attempt. If there is a problem with the system on our side, we do receive communication from the developers and we will inform you. If you are having a problem with the system that persists and we have not sent our communication, please check your internet connection. You will have two attempts at the Mock assessment, but only one opportunity to pass the Online assessment. 2. Case Study The case study needs to be completed and submitted to the invigilator for assessment on the summative assessment (written exam) date. You will not be able to write the summative assessment if your case study is not submitted. Note that the case study needs to be completed in your own words. It is required to type your responses in either Arial or Tahoma font 11, as it makes it more legible and easier for the assessor and moderator to assess and moderate. Ensure further that you complete the following documentation on the first pages of the case study: Personal Details An original certified copy of your ID (a copy of a certified copy is not allowed) Certificate of Authenticity must be signed Please ensure that you make a copy of your case study for your own records, before you submit it. 3. Summative assessment (written exam) The exam will take place on the assessment day as per the programme. NOTE that the following is applicable to this assessment: Closed-book summative assessment; Only blue or black ink is allowed; No correction fluid is allowed; Calculators permitted (HP10bII or similar is the required calculator); Maximum 3 hours exam (unless otherwise indicated); Seats must be taken by 08:30 for administration procedures to commence. 6
PROCESS ON ASSESSMENT DAY An invigilator will receive students on the day of assessment at the prescribed venue. It is of the utmost importance to complete, sign and submit the following documentation on the day of assessment: Sign the MBSE attendance register. Hand in your fully completed case study with all the necessary documents and attachments (Please note: your assessments will not be sent to an assessor if any documentation is outstanding or incomplete). Online assessment to be completed on or before the prescribed date. Failure to do the abovementioned will result in non-attendance and the learner will be charged with the full fee. The invigilator will remind you at the beginning of the assessment to complete the documentation and assist you accordingly. You will not be allowed to write the assessment if you do not submit your case study on the day of assessment. 7
