There are 3 basic keys to building a successful e-mail list: Key #1 First of all, you need to have one in the first place! That means that you need an e-mail delivery system, which is commonly called a CRM (Contact Relationship Manager). This will allow you to send a bunch of e-mails all at once. Sending messages out of your regular e-mail account won t allow you to automate or personalize your marketing. There are MANY systems to choose from. I recommend: 1. Mail Chimp if you re just starting out and don t have a lot of funds to work with. It s free to sign up and free to send up to a certain amount of e-mails. If you want to set up autoresponders (e-mails that go out automatically), you can pay as you go per e-mail. http://mailchimp.com/ 2. Send Pepper if you can swing the $29.95 / mo. minimum. In my opinion, this program is easier to use and far more useful than Mail Chimp. http://www.sendpepper.com
3. 1ShoppingCart if you want to be able to process credit cards online and / or set up an affiliate program where people can refer your services and have those referrals tracked automatically. http://www.1shoppingcart.com 4. Infusionsoft once you have 500 people on your list and are making $100,000 or more in revenue. Much more advanced than the previous options. https://www.infusionsoft.com/ Once you have a CRM, you can add people to your list manually and send them e-mail. In order to have people sign up to be on your list automatically online, you ll also need an Opt-In Page. You might have also heard it called a Squeeze Page or a Landing Page. An Opt-In Page is a simple website that allows your prospects to enter their contact information (usually first name and e-mail address) and give you permission to follow up with them. When potential clients enter their contact information on your Opt-In Page, their information gets entered into your CRM automatically. The effectiveness of Opt-In Pages has been tested extensively, and this format consistently outperforms other types of websites.
Here s an example of an Opt-In Page: Here s a great resource for quickly creating professional Opt-In Pages: http://www.realprosperityinc.com/optimizepress For under $100, you can create as many Opt-In Pages (and Sales Pages) as you want. And they have step-by-step training videos for every step of the process. NOTE: This is a Word Press theme (a way of making Word Press websites look) so if you already have a Word Press site, you need to get separate installation of Word Press with its own login, username & password. Do NOT install it on your existing site or your site will disappear!
Key #2 Next, it s important to nurture relationships with people on your list by offering them something of value, other than sales, sales, and more sales. Your list is a community of people who have put their trust in you. They ve trusted you with their name and e-mail address. Since many people change their physical address more often than their e-mail address nowadays, that s actually a generous show of trust. They ve trusted you to provide them with valuable information and not to sell their contact information or spam them. Honor that trust by sending them useful articles, helpful tips, short training videos, or inspiring quotes (I call these Free Ongoing Goodies ) One of my mentors runs an auto repair center, and he realized that his clients didn t want to learn about auto repair (that s why they hired him) so he just sends them funny quotes, comics, and stories that have nothing to do with auto repair but make them laugh. If you have no idea what to offer, this is a topic that we cover extensively in my Client Attraction Blueprint program. You can get more information here: http://www.realprosperityinc.com/cab
Key #3 Finally, you need to continually build your e-mail list by having new potential clients opt in. Focus on attracting your tribe of ideal clients, not just anyone. That way, the people who join your list will be more likely to actually invest in your products and services. To jumpstart your e-mail list if you re just starting out, begin by reaching out to your sphere of influence (people you already know) Here are some places to start: Stacks of business cards you ve collected Contacts in Gmail (or whatever e-mail provider you have) People in your cell phone Facebook friends LinkedIn connections Send them an e-mail message to reconnect, inviting them to opt in to your list. By the way, you need PERMISSION to add someone to your e-mail list. Otherwise, it s considered spam. When someone gives you their business card, it does NOT mean they ve opted in to your list (unless they specifically say, Here s my card please add me to your list. ) Don t be That Guy that adds people to an e-mail list without their permission! Also, if you DO have an e-mail list, but you haven t focused on list-building for a while or haven t communicated with your list recently, sending a similar e-mail message to reconnect is a great way to rekindle those relationships.
Here s an e-mail template that you can model: (Make sure to edit the fields in red to your specific information) Subject: Follow up from <your name> Hi <their first name>, I'm writing because I just stumbled upon your business card & I wanted to reach out and reconnect. First of all, I apologize for being out of touch. My business has been growing, and part of the growing pains has been realizing that I need to update my follow up systems. That s why I ve created my <Free Ongoing Goodies>. If you d like me to keep you in the loop with what s going on in my world, please click here: <Insert Link to Opt-In Page for Free Ongoing Goodies> Also, when you have a moment, please reply and let me know what you re most fired up about right now and how I can support you. Thanks! I m looking forward to reconnecting with you! <Your name>
This tactic will get your list off to a great start don t lose the momentum! Remember that you need to continually build your e-mail list by having new potential clients opt in. No matter how amazing and valuable your e-mails are, some people will eventually opt out. That s one of the reasons it s so important to always be growing your list. Also, having a profitable e-mail list gives you financial security and a never-ending flow of clients and sales. For example... A good rule of thumb for monetizing your list is to shoot for $1 per subscriber, per month. So if you have a list of 10,000 subscribers, you should be able to make $10,000 a month, which most of the people I work with can live on comfortably. And MANY people I ve worked with have built strong enough relationships with their tribe through e-mail that they can make 6-7 figures even with a much smaller list. To learn some of the most powerful tactics I ve used to build my list from 300 to over 13,000 subscribers, visit: http://www.realprosperityinc.com/biglist See you there!
