Frontstream CRM Pro to Pro Upgrade Guide (Note: This guide is ONLY applicable for upgrading from Pro to Pro) Congratulations on your purchase of Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro. Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro is the next generation of Frontstream CRM. In Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro, we ve made many changes and improvements that will make your Frontstream CRM experience even better. Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro utilizes Microsoft SQL Server technologies for its database functionality. Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro can be used with Microsoft SQL Server versions 2005 or greater. This includes all editions of Microsoft SQL Server except Microsoft SQL Azure. Since you are already using Frontstream CRM Pro, you will not need to install Microsoft SQL Server again. This only needs to be installed once, even if you have purchased multiple Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro licenses. For more information on Microsoft SQL Server visit the Microsoft website. *****READ THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE CONTINUING***** Run a Frontstream CRM Checkup on your database 1. Sign in to the Frontstream CRM database that you want to upgrade. 2. Click the Settings button at the top of Frontstream CRM. 3. Click the Importing, Exporting and Data Management heading. 4. Click GiftWorks Checkup. 5. Click Run Checkup. If no issues are found with the database, you can continue with the upgrade. If any issues are found, please contact Frontstream CRM Customer Care at support@giftworksconnect.com BEFORE you proceed with the Upgrade.
Upgrade Overview The process of upgrading to Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro happens in 4 basic steps. The following information will help guide you through the upgrade steps. Step 1 Locate your existing Frontstream CRM Pro database Open your existing version of Frontstream CRM and sign in Click on Settings / Importing, Exporting & Data Management / Manage your GiftWorks Database. Here you will see a Database Information area. This will tell you the Server name and Database Name ***WRITE BOTH OF THESE DOWN*** Step 2 Backup Your Current Frontstream CRM PRO database Before you start the Frontstream CRM 2015 upgrade, it is imperative that you BACK UP YOUR CURRENT FRONTSTREAM CRM DATABASE. To backup your Frontstream CRM database: 1. Click on the Settings button at the top of Frontstream CRM 2. Click on Importing, Exporting and Data Management 3. Click on Manage your GiftWorks Database 4. Click on Back up the Database
5. Choose a name for the backup file at Step 1 6. Choose a location to save the Frontstream CRM Backup File at Step 2 -This can be the default SQL server location or a custom location you choose 7. Click on Backup Now 8. Click Ok when the backup is complete Your back up file will have a.bak file extension Note: If you have the GiftWorks File Storage feature turned on, the backup process will NOT back up the File Storage Folder. This folder needs to be backed up separately. It would be good practice to back up the File Storage Folder every time you back up Frontstream CRM Pro to ensure that the backups match in the event that a restore of both is required. To check the GiftWorks File Storage Folder location, go to Settings / Database, Files and Maintenance / Configure your GiftWorks File Storage
If you have any trouble with completing your backup, please contact Frontstream CRM Customer Care at support@giftworksconnect.com. Once you have backed up your Frontstream CRM database, proceed to the next step. Step 3- Upgrade to Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro You will need to download and install the latest version of Frontstream CRM. If Frontstream CRM 2014 is currently installed on your machine, the Frontstream CRM 2015 installation process will remove the previous version of Frontstream CRM and then install Frontstream CRM 2015. Note: If you currently have Frontstream CRM Events and/or Volunteers you must also choose to install the free trial of Events and/or Volunteers. If you have purchased a license to upgrade from a previous version of Frontstream CRM Pro to Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro, you will receive instructions containing your licensing information. You will need to install the upgraded version of Frontstream CRM on each computer. Once the database has been upgraded, only computers running Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro will be able to access it. You can download and install Frontstream CRM 2015 by clicking here After you install Frontstream CRM 2015, you will need to register your Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro license key. To enter your license key, click on Help at the top left of your screen and choose Update License Key. Then enter in your Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro license key and then click Go. Fill out the Registration information then click Next to be taken to the Getting Started process. Step 4 Upgrade your Frontstream CRM 2014 Pro database After installing Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro, you will upgrade your Frontstream CRM database to the latest format. Upgrading your database will occur the first time you sign in to your Frontstream CRM database using Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro. From the Get Started screen, choose the Open an existing database option.
Click Next. Enter the Server Name Enter the Login Information (if you do not have a Trusted Connection) The Get Database List button will now be active. Click on that button.
You will then see Select a database from the list below Click on the dropdown and choose your exiting PRO database file from the list
Click Next. This will take you back to the sign in screen. Click Sign In.
You will now need to upgrade your existing Frontstream CRM Pro database file to Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro. This process will copy your existing information into Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro. Click on the upgrade button. Type YES in the field to verify that you backed up the database before the upgrade, then click on the Upgrade button. When the upgrade process is complete, you will automatically be signed in and you can now start using Frontstream CRM 2015 Pro. Once you have verified the upgraded information, please create a backup of your newly upgraded database. IMPORTANT NOTE Every computer you use to access Frontstream CRM must have the same version of Frontstream CRM installed.
