Due to limitations of standards, consolidating data from disparate systems is one of today s most common healthcare IT challenges. A hospital CIO found tracking and reporting on Meaningful Use to be incredibly time consuming, involving many stakeholders. Process changes needed to be recorded and documented for the initial reporting period and for ongoing compliance. To stay compliant with HIPAA and HITECH, a privacy manager needed to monitor access to patient data residing in various systems across the hospital. This required pulling data from EPIC, their primary EHR, as well as their Sunquest Laboratory system, GE physician practices system, and Lawson HR system. Accessing this data from multiple audit logs manually was impractical, as it required too many man-hours to correlate the data across the enterprise.
