Computer Tutorial: Application Sharing Purpose: To show students how use Application Sharing in a Collaborate Classroom session. Application Sharing gives a Moderator, or a Participant (if permission is granted by the Moderator ), the ability to share open applications (PowerPoint files, PDF files, Word documents, Photoshop projects, even web browsers), or his/her entire desktop, with others in a Collaborate Classroom session. The host of the Application Share can also grant control of his/her application(s) to others in the Collaborate Classroom session. Share an Application or Your Entire Desktop with Participants The Collaborate Toolbar is located toward the top of the Blackboard Collaborate window. This toolbar contains three buttons for switching the Content Area between the three content modes; the Whiteboard button, the Application Sharing button, and the Web Tour button. Click the Application Sharing button to open Application Sharing. Note: If your instructor has not made a content mode available to you, the button will be grayed out. In the image below, Web Tour has not been made available to participants and the button (on the right side of the Application Sharing button) is grayed out. Give Control of Your Shared Application(s) or Desktop to another Participant IMPORTANT: Your instructor, or anyone else who is a Moderator in the session, can take control of shared applications at any time. If you would like a participant in the session to have control of the application(s) you are sharing, click the Participant Options Menu icon next to that participant s name. Note: When someone is sharing an application, the Application Sharing icon will appear next to his/her name in the Participants Menu. The Participant Options Menu will open. Select Give Control of Shared Applications. Note: You must be sharing an application to choose this selection. Indian Hills Community College www.indianhills.edu Page 8 of 9
The Give Control pop up will open. Click OK to give control of the shared application(s) to the participant you chose. The participant can now control (click, scroll, edit, etc.) the shared application(s). IMPORTANT: Both you and the participant you chose will have control over the shared application(s). Therefore, it is important that you keep your hand off the mouse, so you do not compete for control. You may use the F2 key on your keyboard to turn on and off your audio and you may use the Tab key on your keyboard to move between the panels. When you no longer want the participant you selected to have control of the application(s) you are sharing, select Take Away Control of Shared Applications in the Participant Options Menu or hold down the CTRL key and the Spacebar on your keyboard at the same time. Congratulations! You now know how use Application Sharing in the Collaborate Classroom. Office of Online Learning Looking for more computer tutorials? Please visit: www.indianhills.edu/tutorials.
