Kofax Transformation Modules Release Notes Introduction This set of release notes contains important information not included in other Kofax Transformation Modules documentation. Please read these release notes carefully before you install, upgrade, or use this product. Additional Documentation and Resources These release notes are a supplement to the following documentation: Installation Guide for Kofax Transformation Modules User Guide for Kofax Transformation Modules Using the Kofax Transformation - Knowledge Base Administration Using the Kofax Transformation - Database Dialog Utility Training Note The documentation pdf files are located in the Documentation directory of the setup. Kofax offers both classroom and computer-based training that will help you make the most of your Kofax Transformation Modules and Kofax Capture solutions. Visit the Kofax Web site at www.kofax.com for details about the available training options and schedules. New Features This section contains information about the new features in Kofax Transformation Modules 3.5. Knowledge Base Learning Server Knowledge Base Learning Server is an additional Kofax Capture custom module used to perform Generic and Specific Online Learning. Generic Online Learning is the formerly called Online Learning and still provides the same functionality. In contrast to former versions the documents are now handled by the Knowledge Base Learning Server and no longer via the release module. In Validation the user can mark a document for Generic or Specific Online Learning. Documents marked for Specific Online Learning are used to improve the extraction of invoice fields filled by the Invoice Group Locators. A dynamic knowledge base is created and updated by the Knowledge Base Learning Server, which then can be used by the Server for the extraction of other documents of the same batch class. Additionally, the documents are saved and can be imported to the Project Builder to optimize the project or to create new knowledge bases. Documents Kofax, Inc. 1

marked for Generic Online Learning are copied to the new samples database and can be used to optimize the project in a separate step. Kofax Transformation Modules - Knowledge Base Learning Server normally runs as an unattended module. A user interface shows the status of the current batch progress and statistical data, which also writes a log file that contains error messages. For further details see the User Guide for Kofax Transformation Modules - Invoice Processing Technology or Kofax Transformation - Project Builder online help topics. Specific Online Learning For the group locators a new specific training algorithm is introduced that remembers the layout of a trained invoice and correlates all possible features that can be used for extraction with that specific layout. During extraction the group locators internally perform a layout classification. For a known layout the document is extracted based on the information of that particular training document. For the group locators the user can now define which algorithm is used for extraction, either generic or specific. If you select generic, the already existing algorithm is used to train documents by taking extraction features into account such as geometric relations between fields and keywords. If you select specific, an algorithm is used to train documents that saves possible extraction features for each document type (layout). Table Synchronization The synchronization of tables can now be performed within the Kofax Transformation Modules - Synchronization. It is no longer needed to create the table within Kofax Capture Administration prior to the synchronization. Note that you now can have multiple tables on a validation form. There are some restrictions for the synchronization of tables as you can map one or more Kofax Transformation Modules classes to one Kofax Capture document class that may contain an identically named table with different table models assigned. For further details, especially concerning the restrictions, see the User Guide for Kofax Transformation Modules or Kofax Transformation Modules - Synchronization online help topics. WinWrap Basic Script Engine The Sax Basic script engine is replaced by a newer version that is renamed to WinWrap Basic, Copyright 1993-2008 Polar Engineering and Consulting. This new script engine is fully Microsoft Windows Vista compatible. The script code editor now supports Unicode characters, which makes it possible to use Chinese, Japanese or Cyrillic string contants in script, for example to fill a field with Chinese characters. Project Builder Invoice Group Locator The Invoice Group locator now contains two additional subfields: VendorName and VendorID. The recognition of the fields is based on the layout detection. All documents of the same layout are considered to have the same vendor name and vendor identifier number. For the fields VendorName and VendorID it is recommended to use Invoice Group Locator in combination with a Database Locator and Standard Evaluator. The Standard Evaluator should be configured to vote 2 Kofax, Inc.

with an evaluation type First of. This method will return the best result from the first locator in the list of selected locators. If you already use Invoice Group Locator from an earlier Kofax Transformation Modules version, you can easily update it. Follow the instructions below to upgrade. To upgrade Invoice Group Locator for New Additional Subfields Validation 1. Select Show Extraction Design from the Project Builder's mode toolbar to display the Extraction Design panel. Add two new fields, VendorName and VendorID to the list of fields already provided by the Invoice Group locator. Note It might be that the field for the vendor name is already set up and assigned to the Database locator. 2. Open and then close the Invoice Group Locator properties dialog. This is necessary to update the locator properties and apply the changes. 3. Assign the Invoice Group locator's subfields to the new fields by expanding the drop-down list of locators, where the new subfields are now displayed. Tabs for Validation Forms The validation form may contain several tabs now. If only one tab is designed for the validation form layout, then Kofax Transformation Modules - Validation shows the validation form without any tabs so that there is no difference to the current style. Anchoring A new property, Anchor, can be set for validation form elements. Anchoring is used to dynamically resize validation form elements, such as fields or tables, within the validation form. By default, validation form elements are anchored top and left, and a table is fully anchored (top, bottom, left and right). If a form has more than one table, only the bottom-most table is fully anchored while the other tables are anchored top, left and right. If you work with anchors, it is recommended to un-maximize the validation form during design to see if resizing the validation form causes unwanted effects. Remember that depending on the anchoring settings used for validation form elements, such as a field anchored left and right, the field may vanish from the form after resizing or changing the resolution. Multiple Tables Tables on validation forms are reworked and the following changes are applied. For details see User Guide for Kofax Transformation Modules or Kofax Transformation - Project Builder online help topics Kofax Transformation - Project Builder online help topics. Multiple Tables You can now have multiple tables on a validation form that can be placed anywhere on the validation form or on different tabs. The restriction that no other form elements can be placed after a table is now obsolete. Kofax, Inc. 3

Table column as check box A table column can be defined as a check box column. Open the validation form layout mode and change the table properties for the column accordingly. Set Table column width You can set the width of a table column. Open the validation form layout mode and change the table properties for the column. New Script Events Several new events have been added, for example to access validation form elements via script. You can use those events to enable/disable form elements or make them invisible. You can also assign new text to buttons or labels and set a background color for table cells. New events can notify you, for example, when the selection in a table has changed. List of New Script Events Batch Opened Closed Document AfterProcess Validation Form TableActiveCellChanged TableSelectionChanged TabIndexChanged For further details see Script Documentation online help. Knowledge Base Administration Knowledge Base Administration can now be used to manage training sets and knowledge bases for standard projects and no longer for invoice projects only. Change In Behavior This section lists information about changed behavior of the product. Online Learning Online Learning is renamed to Generic Online Learning and will no longer be processed by the Kofax Capture Release module (Ascent Xtrata Pro statistics release), but instead by Kofax Transformation Modules - Knowledge Base Learning Server. That means the Knowledge Base Learning Server now processes the documents marked for Generic Online Learning in Validation and saves them to the new samples database. The settings for Generic Online Learning are stored within each project and are no longer stored for each Kofax Capture document class. You enable Generic Online Learning and set it up for a project in Project Builder. 4 Kofax, Inc.

For further details see the User Guide for Kofax Transformation Modules - Invoice Processing Technology or Kofax Transformation - Project Builder online help topics. For additional information about Knowledge Base Learning Server see New Features - Knowledge Base Learning Server. If you already use Online Learning from an earlier Kofax Transformation Modules version, you can easily update it to now use the corresponding Generic Online Learning functionality. Follow the instructions below to upgrade to Generic Online Learning. To upgrade New Samples Release to Knowledge Base Learning Server 1. Start Kofax Transformation - Project Builder. 2. Open the Project Settings and configure Online Learning ( Project Project Settings Knowledge Base tab). a. Select the option Enable Online Learning. b. Choose the path to the directory where the New Samples Release was stored by Ascent Xtrata Pro 3.1 SP 2 and previous versions. 3. In Kofax Capture Administration module, for each document class, delete KTM Statistics from the list of release scripts. Note There have been two options in the Release Setup for the KTM Statistics: Statistic Release and New Samples Release. If Statistic Release was enabled and you want to reuse this option you cannot delete KTM Statistics from the list. 4. Add Kofax Transformation Modules - Knowledge Base Learning Server to an existing batch class in the Kofax Capture Administration module. To do so, select Kofax Transformation Modules - Knowledge Base Learning Server from the list of Available Queues and click Add to move it to the list of Selected Queues. It must be placed after Scan, Kofax Transformation Modules - Server and Kofax Transformation Modules - Validation in the list. Please refer to your Kofax Capture documentation for details about creating and handling batch classes. Note If you do not upgrade, the project will continue to use the data of the New Samples Release. The old path setting is kept, and the benefit of the advanced online learning feature of the Kofax Transformation Modules - Knowledge Base Learning Server is not available for the project. WinWrap Basic Script Engine The new script engine comes with some changes the user has to consider when reusing existing scripts. Initialization of Optional Parameters With this new script engine you can no longer use optional parameter that are initialized in a function or procedure call, such as the following example. Public Sub Test (pval As String, Optional pval2 as Date = Now)... Kofax, Inc. 5

End Sub Instead, initialize the parameter, for example in the following way: Public Sub Test (pval As String, Optional pval2 as Date) If IsEmpty(pVal2) Then pval2 = Now End IF End Sub Different Error Tolerance The WinWrap Basic engine does not allow some errors the old Sax Basic engine tolerated. Not Tolerated Errors Missing references Invalid references, such as references to missing dlls, must be removed from script. In Sax Basic it was possible to reference a missing dll as long as it was not used. Wrong name space usage Access to some COM objects from the CscXDocLib using the CascadeLIB name space is no longer possible for the new engine. With Sax Basic it was possible to write the following variable declaration: Dim omytable as CascadeLib.CscXDocTable Because the CscXDocTable object is defined in the CscXDocLib type library. Now, you have to use it the following: Dim omytable as CscXDocLib.CscXDocTable or Dim omytable as CscXDocTable This applies to other objects of the CscXDocLib library too. Resolved Problems This section contains information about issues that are resolved by installing Kofax Transformation Modules 3.5. Project Builder The following section contains details about resolved problems for the Project Builder. Project Panel The columns Fields and Field Count in Project panel are refreshed properly when you add new fields in Extraction Design working mode. (SPR00030974) Table Fields You can now clear the formatting applied for a table column. (SPR00035221) 6 Kofax, Inc.

Group Locators Kofax Transformation Modules introduces specific training for all group locators, which allows layout specific training of invoices. The layout based algorithm can solve many conflicts that may occur for the keyword based algorithm. For further details see User Guide for Kofax Transformation Modules - Invoice Processing. Amount Group Locator Empty Keywords If you try to leave a keyword text empty, a warning is displayed and the old value is reset. (SPR00033127) Fields Unmapped To Validation Method The Amount Group Locator works correctly and no warning is shown when you have fields that are not mapped to a validation method on the locator properties' Validation tab. (SPR00036236) Table Locator Table Locator was reworked and no problems will occur with line detection on images with black lines in the corner of the image. (SPR00034772) Standard Evaluator Alternatives By default the number of alternatives is set to 2 and the minimum value to 1. That means that only one alternative is returned even if more alternatives match. (SPR00033230) Focus Behavior If you double-click an item in the Available Locators list, the selected item is moved to the Selected Locators list and the focus moves to the next item in the Available Locators list. When you remove a locator from the Selected Locators list, the focus moves to the next item in the Selected Locators list. (SPR00033324) Multifield Validation Rule If you select an item from the properties dialog box drop-down list using up and down arrow keys, the selected item is now assigned correctly. (SPR00032641) Regular Expression Validation Methods This validation method is updated so that if you now insert an invalid regular expression, a warning is displayed and it no longer crashes. Click OK and update your regular expression to be able to add the expression to the formats. (SPR00034153) Additionally, the focus and highlighting is corrected for entries to the Formats field that match an entry already added to the list of formats. If you insert an entry that matches an existing format, any modifications are made to the shown selection. (SPR00034155) Kofax, Inc. 7

Validation Form Layout Group Box Caption The text inserted in the Text property of the Group is now displayed correctly in the Validation Form Layout during the design of the validation form. (SPR00032412) Tab Sequence For Ungrouped Items The tab sequence for a field that is moved out of a group is now set to the highest unique tab index value outside the group on the validation form. (SPR00035203) New Samples Working Mode Create Class And New Table Locator When you mark a document for Generic Online Learning in Validation to improve table extraction and take advantage of the table indexing with the mouse, the document is returned to Project Builder. Now, the document is added automatically to the training set of the newly created class when you click Create New Class and Table Locator in New Samples working mode. Retrain the project, and the documents with this layout are classified correctly. (SPR00033034) Display Table Fields For tables that cannot be displayed in New Samples a warning appears to show the reason for the problem, for example, when the table model did not match that of the current project. (SPR00033993) Database Lookup The Database Lookup no longer returns wrong values for alternatives. (SPR00032439) Server The following section contains details about resolved problems for the Server module. Amount Group Locator Server no longer throws an exception when an Amount Group Locator contains fields that are not mapped to a validation method. (SPR00034218) Barcode and Advanced Zone Locator Barcode Locator and Advanced Zone Locator are reworked and no longer cause unspecific errors for OMR projects with hundreds of zones. (SPR00033499) Format Locator For characters that are defined as ignore characters, the Server no longer crashes when those characters are also defined for OCR substitution. (SPR00036777) Error When Processing Batches The initialization of the project due to a problem of the script engine is resolved. (SPR0003572) 8 Kofax, Inc.

Table Extraction The Fox Exception error during table extraction no longer occurs. (SPR00036210) Log File Information Logging of information failed if another process blocked the log file and those log entries were missing in the log file. Now, five retries are performed if the log file is locked. If the log file is still not accessible, the log entries are written to the windows event log. (SPR00034138) Validation The following section contains details about resolved problems for the Validation module. Auto-Foldering For projects that have no foldering enabled, the menu item Execute Auto-foldering is now disabled. Note that even if a project has foldering enabled, you must allow foldering in the extended synchronization settings in Kofax Administration module, otherwise this functionality cannot be used in Validation. (SPR00033469) Generic Online Learning If you mark a document for Generic Online Learning in Validation the comment may now contain quotes and no error will occur when the document is processed by Knowledge Base Learning Server. (SPR00032314) Paste Shortcut Ctrl-V now pastes correctly, even when a button is added to a form that contains a table. (SPR00034338) Geometrical Information Of Fields If you clear a field, the field's geometrical information is also deleted. (SPR00030461) Errors for Documents with No Text Results The Fox Exception for documents that have no text results no longer occurs as special Finereader exceptions are handled correctly. (SPR00033040) Docking Document Viewer Some errors due to docking the Document viewer, such as duplicating the Current Error area, invisible table and no scroll bars for a table, have been resolved. (SPR00030930, SPR00032469 and SPR00033125) Zoom Settings Validation module retains zoom settings in the Document Viewer panel when InPlace Editor panel is set to floating mode. (SPR00033307) Status Bar Information Correct document and folder position are displayed in the Validation's status bar. (SPR00036266 ) Kofax, Inc. 9

Problems With Events DocumentLoaded Event The DocumentLoaded event occurs no longer two times when a user validates the last invalid document of a batch where the batch itself is still invalid, because it contains, for example, an invalid folder field. In such a case the last validated document stays displayed and the user has to make sure that the batch gets valid. This error will only occur for Ascent Xtrata Pro 3.1 SP2. (SPR00036709) AfterFieldChanged Event AfterFieldChanged event is now fired for fields that are defined as combo boxes, but updated in script. (SPR00033017) Installing Kofax Transformation Modules 3.5 This section contains important notes that you should review before installing Kofax Transformation Modules 3.5. Installation for Microsoft Windows Vista In order to install Kofax Transformation Modules 3.5 you must have full Windows administrator privileges. Use the following instructions to install Kofax Transformation Modules 3.5. To start Kofax Transformation Modules 3.5 for Microsoft Windows Vista operating system Server 1. Choose the executable file for setup in the file directory. 2. Right-click the file and select Run as administrator from the context menu. 3. Follow the instructions of the installation. With Windows Vista it is not possible to start and stop services from an application without administrative user permissions. Therefore Kofax Transformation Modules - Server will fail to start and stop the extraction services. Choose one of the following three possible workarounds. Start Kofax Transformation Modules - Server only as service Check if the corresponding Windows services, Kofax Transformation Modules - Processing Service, is started. If not, do one of the following: a. Open the Kofax Transformation - Service Configuration and configure Batch Processing Service to be started automatically. b. Start the Windows service manually from the Control panel. Run Kofax Transformation Modules - Server as administrator 1. From the Windows taskbar, select Start Programs Kofax Transformation Server. 10 Kofax, Inc.

2. Right-click Server item to show the context menu. 3. Select Run as administrator from the context menu. Start Extraction Services manually before starting Server as application 1. From the Windows taskbar, select Start Settings Control Panel Administrative Tools Services to display the Services utility. 2. In the list of services, select Kofax Transformation Modules - Extraction Service 1. 3. Click Start to start the service. 4. Start the Kofax Transformation Modules - Server as application. Administrative User Permissions and SQL Server 2005 Express When you use Kofax Capture with a SQL Server 2005 Express, all of the Kofax Transformation Modules or Kofax Capture modules are started in administrator mode and all subsequent modules for the same batch have to run as administrator as well. Known Problems The following sections describe known problems, and if available, useful workarounds for Kofax Transformation Modules 3.5. Export Kofax Capture Batch Class If you export a batch class in Kofax Capture Administration that has Kofax Transformation Modules added to its queue make sure that the project, to which the batch class is synchronized to, is not currently open in Project Builder. Else the export will be incomplete and unpredictable errors may occur if you re-import such a batch class. (SPR00037704) Workaround: Close the project in Project Builder first before you export the batch class. Kofax Capture 8 Features Kofax Capture 8 features are supported except for those described in the following sections. Kofax Capture Network Server And Kofax Transformation Modules Online Learning There is no restriction in using Kofax Capture Network Server with Kofax Transformation Modules if Online Learning is not enabled. If it is enabled then Kofax Transformation Modules - Server and Knowledge Base Learning Server must be executed on the same site, because both applications must have access to the same Online Learning directory. If necessary, you can change the path settings for Online Learning in the Project Builder. For further details see User Guide for Kofax Transformation Modules - Invoice Processing. Copy/Paste Copying and pasting Kofax Capture objects such as Batch Classes, Document Classes, or any other object in Kofax Capture Administration will lead to unpredictable mappings between these objects and Kofax Transformation Modules objects. You cannot use this feature for objects that have Kofax Transformation Modules added to their queue. Kofax, Inc. 11
