Programme Coordinator Birmingham Information Pack

About UpRising UpRising is a UK-wide youth leadership development organisation. Our mission is to open pathways to power and opportunities for a diverse range of talented young people. We equip them with the knowledge, networks, skills, and confidence to reach their potential and transform their communities for the better. Our Patrons are Prime Minister David Cameron MP, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg MP and Leader of the Labour Party Ed Miliband MP. UpRising was developed and launched by the Young Foundation in 2008 in East London. We now operate in six locations across the UK, including Bedfordshire, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, London and Stoke-on-Trent. UpRising has worked with over 450 young adults over the past five years and continues to work with and develop our Emerging Leaders Network. We are seeking a dynamic and ambitious individual to support the delivery of UpRising s programmes in the region. The successful applicant will be passionate about the aims and objectives of the organization and be determined to ensure that talented young adults in the region are supported to attain their potential and create meaningful social action in their communities. UpRising is supported by an impressive and dedicated board of Trustees which is chaired by Rushanara Ali MP for Bethnal Green and Bow. More information on our trustees can be found at the end of this pack. For more information about UpRising please visit www.uprising.org.uk

Programme Coordinator Birmingham The Programme Coordinator will be responsible supporting the delivery of the next round of the UpRising Core Programme, as designed by the Programme Manager. They will help with recruitment and then ensure that the programme is delivered to a high standard. They will also be required to offer some support on delivery of the UpRising Pass it On programme. They will provide coordination support to the Programme Manager and Project Manager on matters including PR, fundraising and recruitment. The Programme Coordinator is the key point of contact for young people on the Core Programme. Impact I had previously believed leadership to be something led by one sole rich and powerful person, from my experience of UpRising however I now see that this isn't so. For a leader to be successful and influential they must encompass the needs and opinions of those they lead. To me now leadership is about awareness, both of yourself and those you are leading. Impact from our 2011 / 2012 cohort: 97% of UpRisers now recognise themselves as leaders, with 99% now believing that they have the power and skills to change issues that affect them and their local community 98% reported that they now know about their own community, including its needs, patterns, diversity, and other leaders within the area 98% of UpRisers identified the programme as having given them a chance to do new things, and 95% of UpRisers said that they had made valuable networks of contacts 95% reported strengthened emotional intelligence, showing UpRising s far-reaching and profound effect on participant s behaviours and thinking 98% of UpRisers felt that UpRising made a difference in their ability to understand people who are different from them 90% of UpRisers nationally found their mentoring experience very beneficial, and 99% reported that they had benefitted from the many other activities UpRising and its networks offer, such as special events, courses, networking opportunities. Five year alumni survey: We have just completed a survey of our 450 alumni, in order to better understand the lasting impact of our programes: 96% of alumni believe UpRising has contributed significantly to their development 92% of alumni are confident that they can make change happen on issues they care about 66% of alumni have gone on to contribute positively to their local communities since

completing the programme 17% alumni have started a social enterprise since completing the programme this compares with 1.7% of young people across Western Europe 10% of alumni are Trustees or board members for a non-profit organisation. In contrast the Charity Commission estimates that just 0.5% of UK trustees are under 24 5% alumni have become school governors since completing the programme.
