Feb. 27 Ohio State Marion 8:30 pm The first game of the Great Ships Tournament for the men will pit them against USCAA member Ohio State-Marion. This marks the first-ever matchup with the Wave. A win puts them into an 8:30 pm championship game against either Rhema Bible College or Knoxville College on Feb. 28. Mar. 1 Robert Morris-Springfield 11 am The final game of the Great Ships Tournament will put the Builders against Robert Morris College-Springfield from Springfield, Illinois. Builder Bits Points, points and more points Through 24 games, the men s basketball team has been one for points and more points. They have scored over 90 points on six occasions and are averaging 79 points per game which would be the best team scoring average for a season. The previous highest scoring team was the 2001 02 squad that averaged 78.2 points per game. Best Start 5 games With a split in the Averett Tipoff Tournament on November 22 23, the men s team equalled the best start in the modern era going 4 1. The last team to start a season 4 1 was the 1989 90 squad that ended 8 16. Best Start 10 games After 10 games, the men matched the second best start in the last 19 years with its 6 4 record. The 2001 02 team started 7 3 en route to a school best 23 5 season. Dishing and a swiping The men s team has made an art of the assist and stealing the ball this season. They are averaging 16.6 assists and 12.3 steals per game. The steals record was set last season as the Builders averaged 13.5 steals per game. For assists, the best season average was for the 1989 90 season as the team averaged 15.7 assists per game. Last year s team averaged, a now second best, 14.6 per game. Ruffin rewriting the assist lists Senior Eric Ruffin is well on his way to rewriting the assist records for the Builders. He broke assistant coach Cliff Coleman s single season record in his first year with 144. Against Johnson & Wales on January 31 he broke that record as his total now stands at 160. He also set the single game mark with 15 in a 79 72 loss to then NAIA 4 th ranked Concordia University in December. The Suffolk native has seven games of 10 or more assists in his career.
