1 WatchManager Data Backup 1 WmMirror Data Backup The Mirror component of the WatchManager system is responsible for Data Backups and can be configured to do backups every hour, once a day, or on a weekly basis. WmMirror is started automatically and you can access it from your Windows desktop by clicking the "WatchManager Data Security" Icon in the bottom right corner of your Windows screen (near the time) Clicking on this Icon will bring up the WmMirror program the handles data backup (as shown below)
WmMirror Settings 2 2 WmMirror Settings To alter any Mirror settings, you must be logged in Live Data Folder: This is the location of you LIVE Watchmanager data. You only need to change this if you are backing up across a network (See Network Backup below) Backup Root: This is the destination location you wish to backup to. You can choose a folder on the same hard disk or you can select a destination on a shared network drive Rotate Backup Folders: This option is not zero (maximum = 7), will cause the backup program to use a new sun folder for each backup run, thereby creating as many backup images as you specify (eg below)
3 WatchManager Data Backup History Folder: This is the destination location where signal history is backed up. It is set automatically and cannot be changed Compress (ZIP) History: On a large system, History data can occupy a large amount of space. This option, when enabled will automatically compress History backups to save space 3 Backup Frequency These options allow you to control WHEN, and HOW OFTEN backups are taken and are pretty self explanatory CAUTION: Do not be tempted to set the backup to CYCLE every 10 minutes. While this may seem like a good idea, you system will be bogged down doing backups and it may have a detrimental impact on the Alarm processing performance of your system
Other Settings 4 4 Other Settings RMS Web Backup Password: This function is only applicable to RMS Subscribers and is used with the Web Data backup facility. Visit www.watchmanager.net to find out more about RMS Online Support SMS Me: If you enable this option and you have the SMS Module for WatchManager, you can use this to send an SMS when the backup is completed.
5 WatchManager Data Backup 5 Network Backup It makes sense to make use of a Network backup since you will then have a copy of your data on another physical computer which improves your chances of avoiding any possible disasters. For information on setting up a Windows network, please read the "Network Setup Guide". You can view this in the "Help Centre" available on the Control Centre menu or you can download the PDF document from the support pages on our website MAIN WATCHMANAGER COMPUTER Configure WmMirror settings on your WatchManager PC as follows:
Network Backup 6 NETWORKED BACKUP COMPUTER On your networked computer, install Watchmanager program. It will not be licensed but WmMirror will function normally. BACKUP FREQUENCY SETTINGS The Mirror backup takes about 2 to 3 minutes, even on large systems. So coordinating the backup times between networked PC's needs to be done with some care. The WmMirror settings on you main PC can typically set to backup to run DAILY, at 10:00 am On your network PC, you would then set WmMirror to run DAILY at 10:15 am or event slightly later With these settings, you are giving you Main PC time to complete the backup before your networked PC does the backup across the network.
