Colleges Indicating Baccalaureate Completion Need Question: Do the residents of your district have a need for a baccalaureate completion program beyond what is currently available to them? Institution College of DuPage Danville Area Comm. College Heartland Community College Highland Community College Illinois Central College Illinois Eastern Community College Kankakee Community College Kaskaskia College Lake Land College Lincoln Land Community College John A. Logan College McHenry County College Morton Community College Needs We don t know if our district residents need any additional baccalaureate programs, since we have so many colleges and universities in our district. We would like to see more 3 + 1 models, where students can complete three years at COD and finish the final year at a university. Our students would benefit by offering more online or hybrid (weekend, evening, etc.) degree programs. Students have requested bachelors degrees in: Business, RN/BSN completion (on-line only), Manufacturing, Sociology (for Criminal Justice graduates), and Special Education. We should add that Business Degrees have also been requested from employers from time to time. For most degrees, either an on-line format or a cohort in Danville would be helpful. Having the Lakeview College of Nursing in Vermillion County provides an RS/BSN completion degree program; however, there is not currently an on-line option. Our district is also home to several baccalaureate degree granting institutions, so it seems unlikely that residents seriously lack degree completion opportunities. We would like to have a BS completion program in Nursing No Yes, there is a need for baccalaureate completion programs beyond what is currently available. Our greatest needs are - Education, Nursing, Business, Psychology/Social Work, Administration of Justice. Our needs are met at this time. We would like to have a baccalaureate completion program in Secondary Education and have been working toward that. We have not heard from any district residents of the need for additional opportunities. Education and a capstone for occupational degrees. Yes, Bachelor s degrees in: Health Care, Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice, and Applied Management. Offerings in the immediate district are limited; however, MCC has not formally surveyed the district to determine the needs for specific baccalaureate completion programs. Some of our specific needs, but not limited to are - RN to BSN programs, Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement.
Oakton Community College Parkland College Prairie State College Rend Lake College Rock Valley College Carl Sandburg College Sauk Valley Community College Shawnee Community College South Suburban College Southeastern Illinois College The residents of our district have many options for baccalaureate completion programs. We have approximately 25 colleges and universities within a 45-minute drive of Oakton that offer 4-year degrees. So students have a myriad of choices. Because of on-going conversations with students we would like: - Accounting in class/on campus (not every qualified candidate wants to take it online) - A social work and/or sociology BA...AND a MS that provides credentials for the mental health field (patient care). - Secondary Education - would love it in the classroom but would take online instead or also. - Special Education - would love it in the classroom, but would take online instead or also. The residents in our district will always need some form of baccalaureate completion program for health professions such as Nursing, Dental Hygiene, and Surgical Technology. No needs have been expressed. Rockford has a disproportionally low bachelors attainment rate for the size of our region. For this reason, RVC will continue to foster relationships with 4-year institutions to create additional opportunities for our graduates to complete bachelor s degrees. Currently NIU is the only 4-year public institution offering any bachelor s degrees in our region. This is problematic. Business is an area of need for our students and we are currently in discussions with Northern to provide this program. We have several colleges within close proximity that help fulfill our students baccalaureate completion needs. Yes, I believe that our students would benefit from more expansive baccalaureate completion programs. However, I would like to see these State or Illinois institutions which would provide lower tuition rates. Right now, the proprietary schools are providing this to our students but at a higher rate and possibly less quality. Elementary Education and Business are the areas of need for our students. We have had requests for additional on campus programs in Elementary Education and Business. No requests for this type of programming have been made by district residents. We are trying to locate someone who can provide us with a program that would provide 03 certified teachers with an 04 certification (Early Childhood). Our regional superintendent of schools is working with us on this - our school systems have need of this. Additionally, our own early childhood students could benefit from this greatly. We worked with SIU a couple of years to try to get this, but nothing came of it. I have been in contact with EIU and we are discussing the possibility. I think it will depend on the numbers we can guarantee on our end. Oakland City (IN) has indicated they are willing, but we wanted to try to find an in-state option if at all possible. However, if we can t, then we will consider that option.
Southwestern Illinois College Spoon River College Triton College Waubonsee No, with SIU-E 45 minutes away; SIU-C about 90 minutes away; McKendree and Lindenwood less than 10 minutes away and several programs at Scott AFB, we are well-served. We feel they have been met and don t have any outstanding requests or complaints. We are working on several agreements with WIU and remain open to other agreements or ideas. No need. We are always interested in creating appropriate baccalaureate degree completion agreements with higher education partners to meet the needs of our district residents as they evolve and change over time.
