DATE: Spring 2016 TO: RE: Woodstock Area Educators Upcoming Cohort Programs Presently, many teachers are enrolled in cohort graduate programs through partnerships between local regional offices of education, school districts and Aurora University. These programs have been designed by Aurora University and area partners to have relevance and offer convenience of time and location. Feedback from past and present cohort students is excellent. We are pleased to offer the following program to Woodstock Area Educators: Master of Arts in Educational Technology for educators who wish to pursue a position as a technology specialist, a teacher of technology, or to enhance the use of technology in their current classroom setting. (This degree includes a Technology Specialist Endorsement. Technology Specialist Endorsement for educators who wish to be a teacher or specialist of technology programs in school-based settings. Our local school districts and educational entities facilitate this venture by acting as the collaborating partner with Aurora University. With this office and the leadership of our partner school districts we are able to markedly reduce the cost to our colleagues in and around our Woodstock Center. Classes meet one night per week during the school year typically 4:30 9:00 p.m. and two full weeks in the summers (Monday Friday, 8:00 am 4:00 p.m.) Full degree programs are two years in length. Cohorts must have a minimum enrollment in order to begin, which is determined by the number of deposits we have in hand. Deposits are applied toward tuition, or are fully refundable up until classes begin if you should need to cancel. In order to receive the middle school Technology Specialist Endorsement, candidates must have also completed two additional 3-semester hour middle school pedagogy courses. In order to receive the middle school graduate Technology Specialist Endorsement, candidates must have also completed two additional 3- semester hour middle school pedagogy courses. Previous graduate credit for required courses must be granted by transcript evaluation. A minimum of four (4) courses must be taken from Aurora University. MASTER OF ARTS IN EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY COURSE DESCRIPTIONS EDU 6210 PLANNING AND DEVELOPING INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA I 3 sem hrs This course focuses on using technology in PreK 12 classrooms and addresses the integra9on of technology in all curricular areas for all students. Candidates will develop a crea9ve approach to using modern instruc9onal media and technology in teaching cri9cal thinking skills in the typical classroom

environment. Topics include the Internet, Produc9vity SoCware Applica9ons for educators, integra9ng mul9media and educa9on socware applica9ons, and crea9ng curriculum pages. In-class instruc9onal methods may include demonstra9ons, discussions, lectures, student-led ac9vi9es, coopera9ve ac9vi9es, tutorials, reading, problem-solving, and media showings. Course assessments include planning, design and produc9on of media and the opera9on of hardware and socware for educa9onal use in grades PreK 12. EDU 6215 PLANNING AND DEVELOPING INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA II 3 sem hrs This course expands and enhances the Media I course and focuses on teaching PreK 12 educators how to design and develop interac9ve courseware and Web 2.0 resources for use in classrooms. The emphasis of this course will be on providing a higher-level introduc9on to interac9ve courseware development, tutorial development and Web technologies. Students will learn about e-learning design and development within the context of educa9onally relevant projects. Candidates will learn how to create interac9ve tutorials and presenta9ons using Adobe Flash and screen capture socware. Finally, this course will focus on how teachers can best teach mul9media development skills to students, including ideas for grade appropriate student projects. Candidates will be assessed on their ability to develop and deliver educa9onal mul9media projects and apply best prac9ces for using mul9media to teach and learn. EDU 6220 COMPUTER APPLICATIONS IN EDUCATION 3 sem hrs This course explores various facets of the applica9on of computers to the teaching/learning process. Topics include an overview of theore9cal founda9ons, technologies for teaching and learning, technology applica9ons for effec9ve instruc9on, implica9ons for teaching and learning styles, the rela9onship between the psychology of learning and computer-based instruc9on, explora9on of distance educa9on delivery systems, and social, legal, and ethical issues of technology use. The course is structured around readings, reflec9ons on those readings, class projects, and on-line ac9vi9es. Using this collec9on of ac9vi9es, the methodology of the course seeks to build clear bridges between theore9cal/research perspec9ves, effec9ve design principles, and classroom prac9ce. Candidates will be assessed on their ability to integrate technology with teaching strategies. EDU 6225 ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION WITH TECHNOLOGY 3 sem hrs This course explores best prac9ces in assessment pedagogy, the role of technology in educa9onal assessment, informa9on and knowledge management, and methods for integra9ng technology into the assessment prac9ce. Topics include best prac9ces for grading procedures, preven9on of plagiarism in the digital environment, electronic evalua9on tools, computer-assisted assessment, using electronic record-keeping systems and 9me saving methods for evalua9ng e-porqolios, discussion pos9ngs, and group products. Candidates will also inves9gate assis9ve technology tools, strategies, and support services that improve the func9onal capabili9es of individuals with disabili9es. Candidates will be assessed on their ability to design and deliver effec9ve assessment strategies to diverse learners. EDU 6230 MANAGING THE INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM 3 sem hrs This course teaches candidates the skills and knowledge necessary to install, configure, administer, and support the primary services for network servers, with instruc9on and labs focusing specifically on the MicrosoC Windows Server opera9ng system. Topics include configuring, managing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshoo9ng computer/technology systems. Students will par9cipate in lectures, discussions, demonstra9ons, textbook exercises, and classroom labs. Candidates will mesh theory and prac9ce through a mentor-supervised field experience in a school technology program. Candidates will be assessed on their field experience. EDU 6235 LEADING STAFF DEVELOPMENT IN EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY3 sem hrs This course examines the role of leadership as it relates to the implementa9on of educa9onal technology

in schools. Candidates will be provided theory, gain knowledge, and develop skills necessary to use, evaluate, plan, and implement technologies effec9vely within a school system. Topics in this course emphasize planning and policy issues including iden9fica9on of resource needs, strategic planning, building sustainable educa9onal technology plans, budget development, professional development programs, collabora9ve research, program evalua9on, and change strategies. Candidates will also examine broader administra9ve issues, including security associated with computer and other technologies. Candidates will mesh theory and prac9ce together through a mentor-supervised field experience in a school technology program or with a school leader. Candidates will be assessed on their field experience. EDU 6240 DISTANCE LEARNING 3 sem hrs This course addressees the use of educa9onal telecommunica9ons systems, teleconferencing, digi9zed video, and compressed video to support research and instruc9on across the curriculum. It includes the theories, models and systems of distance learning as well as issues related to instruc9onal deliver, connec9vity, and distribu9on methods. A por9on of this course will be delivered online. Candidates will be assessed on their ability to design and deliver a distance learning program. EDU 6250 ISSUES AND TRENDS IN INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY 3 sem hrs This course explores cri9cal challenges to the school environment resul9ng from the increased infusion of technology. Candidates will inves9gate the field s history, its current status, and the trends and issues likely to have an impact on the field. This course prepares students to make and defend policy decisions and become conversant with current trends and issues in the field. Candidates will be assessed on their ability to present and defend a posi9on on a current issue or trend in technology. EDU 6060 SCHOLARSHIP APPLIED TO TEACHING 3 sem hrs This course serves as a review of the development of emerging best instruc9onal prac9ce in the American classroom. Emphasis will be given to implementa9on of instruc9onal strategies resul9ng from educa9onal research. (The Project) EDU 6070 INTRODUCTION TO ACTION RESEARCH 3 sem hrs This seminar will be used to develop and clarify topics for further inves9ga9on. It will also launch individual and/or group inves9ga9on of research ques9ons with applica9on to the student s classrooms through the process of ac9on research. EDU 6610 EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP 3 Sem hrs This course describes the role of the educa9onal leader in the school as one who creates a vision of an educa9onally beyer culture in the school and then plans and organizes 9mes and resources to communicate this vision to teachers, students, and parents. EDU 6630 CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT & EVALUATION 3 sem hrs This course will introduce the principles of curriculum and instruc9on with an emphasis on curriculum development and design, implementa9on and delivery, and organiza9on and evalua9on. AURORA UNIVERSITY 2015-16 Cohort Program Costs There will be no tuition increase for the length of the program. For full degree programs: 36 semester hours (full degree) = $16,920.00 ($470 per semester hour) For Technology Specialist Endorsement:

24 semester hours = $11,280.00 ($470 per semester hour) Tuition costs for programs requiring less than 36 semester hours are based on actual number of hours taken at the rate per semester hour listed above. Financial Aid in the form of Stafford Loans is available to students who qualify. ADMISSION PROCESS FOR ACCEPTANCE INTO A COHORT GRADUATE PROGRAM Upon receipt of a $100 deposit to secure your spot in a cohort program, the College of Education will send you application instructions. To complete the application process you will need to: Have official transcripts sent to our Office of Admissions. -Degree candidates need to send transcripts from your undergraduate degree only. -Cert only candidates need to send your graduate degree and any other graduate work that may apply to this program. Provide a recommendation from your building/district administrator. This is the only letter of recommendation that you will need. Some programs may have additional specific admission requirements.
