Summary 5nine V2V Converter converts VMware virtual machines to Hyper-V virtual machines. The utility is entirely FREE and requires no additional licenses. Moreover, unlike several other similar solutions, 5nine V2V Converter doesn't encounter problems with various operating systems in use. Any operating system that runs on Hyper-V can be converted, including virtual machines running Windows/Windows Server, RedHat, CentOS, and SUSE. The latest version of the converter can perform batch conversions of several virtual machines from VMware 4.1 and newer servers to virtualization servers and clusters running on Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V and newer (including Server Core and Hyper-V Server installations). System requirements Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Core Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Core Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Core Microsoft Hyper-V Server Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 SP1 Windows7 x64 Windows 8.x 5
Use of the application The product is extremely simple and intuitive to use: V2V's conversion process, which requires shutting down the guest operating system, involves copying the virtual machine from the source VMware server to an intermediate folder and then converting the VMware virtual disks (VMDK format) to Hyper-V virtual disks, including the new VHDX format. Furthermore, the target Hyper-V virtual machine's parameters can be changed during the conversion: the number of processors, RAM, and automatic start and shutdown. 6
The diagnostic system visually depicts the capabilities of the Hyper-V servers' resources, making it possible to allocate a machine to the node or cluster with the most suitable parameters for the virtual machine. In the conversion wizard's final stage, in addition to receiving an informative summary, you can indicate the power state of the converted machine, bearing in mind that the source virtual machine will be shut down and the guest operating system and service will automatically become available. 7
However, until the conversion is complete, the source virtual machine remains on the VMware virtualization server, eliminating the possibility of irretrievably losing the guest operating system and its data! In summary, 5nine V2V Converter converts VMware virtual machines to Hyper-V virtual machines with the help of an intuitive and understandable interface without the need to purchase additional licenses. The Converter is one of several tools that will help you get the most out of the newest Windows Servers 2012/2012 R2, primarily by using the more secure and scalable VHDX-format virtual disks. 5nine Converter's high productivity and effectiveness - which is realized by deep interaction with the latest Hyper-V virtualization platforms, support for a large number of guest operating systems, and protection of source virtual machines from changes during the conversion process - give the product yet another indisputable advantage over other V2V solutions. 8
