COMPETENCY LEVEL COMPETENCY WHICH LEVEL SHOULD I BE STARTING MY BUSINESS CONTINUITY TRAINING? KNOW DO DRP-200 DRP-300 I am new to IT Disaster Recovery Planning (IT DRP) I just need basic knowledge about the subject of IT DRP. I am new to IT DRP and I have been asked to be part of the IT DR Planning team within my organization. I have some knowledge about IT DRP, but would like to have more practical hands-on training in implementing my enterprise-wide IT DRP plan. MANAGE DRP-400 DRP-5000 I have been tasked to spearhead and manage the enterprise-wide IT DRP programme. I would like to have in-depth knowledge of IT DRP I am a seasoned IT DRP practitioner and would like to acquire the DRCE certification in recognition of my knowledge in IT DRP and experience. 2

COurse DESCRiPTION The DRP-300: IT Disaster Recovery Implementer is an intermediate level course that is primarily designed and developed for IT Disaster Recovery (DR) Managers and Planners, IT Professionals dealing with specific area within the DR planning process, and any IT professional embarking on their IT Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) career. Candidates will be introduced to the key concepts of developing business continuity and disaster recovery strategies, design and implementation of DR plans, and preparing and conducting awareness and training programmes. This course is a pre-requisite course for the DRP-400 course. BCM INSTITUTE GLOBAL BODY OF KNOWLEDGE TARGET AUDIENCE The course curriculum and contents are designed for : Middle Management Department Representatives Business Unit BCM Coordinators BC/DR Managers. 3

COURSE OBJECTIVE Participants will be imparted with crucial DR skills and knowledge; empowering them to support the organisation and DRP team to: Assess risk to IT and technology related components within the IT environment. Understand the conduct of the application impact analysis used to identify critical IT and technology resources to support key users. Be able to relate to Recovery Objectives and identify the recovery solutions. Develop and evaluate effectiveness of related recovery procedures. Walkthrough the test and exercises for IT disaster recovery. 4

PRE-REQUISITE At least 1-year of IT DRP experience to achieve the DRCS certification or Newly appointed IT professional to be appointed as Organization IT DR Coordinator. COUrSE DURATION This is a 2 day intermediate course with a DRCS examination on the following day, upon successful completion of the course. The DRCS examination consists of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) electronic based examinations. The examination which lasts for 2.5 hours would need candidates to achieve a 75% passing grade. 5

COURSE CONTENT DAY 1 Understand IT DR and BCM Fundamentals Understand DR and BCM fundamentals and concepts Be aware of your role in your organisation s DR efforts Recognise the implication of international standards to DR planning within your organisation Appreciate the benefits and success factor when implementing the DR program Establish the Need for DR Understand the need and justification for DR implementation Appreciate what constitutes a disaster in IT DR planning Differentiate operational disruption issues from IT disaster Factor the considerations for IT DR implementation Walkthrough the DR Planning Methodology Walkthrough each component of the DR planning methodology Understand the relationship and inter-dependencies between IT DRP and BCM Able to elaborate the objective key activities and deliverables for each component Prepare the Organization for a DR Project Understand what resources are involved in an IT DR project Identify the key stakeholders or interested parties Identify and evaluate the resources and requirement needed for the project Examine and prioritize the IT systems Identify and Evaluate IT and Infrastructure Risks Understand the risk assessment process and its key concepts Identify natural and man-made threats to IT and infrastructure Estimate risk likelihood and risk impact Identify and evaluate risk rating and levels Determine and select the risk reduction measures and control options Justify and recommend control measures and safeguards Completion of Day 1 s course content would lead participants to the Disaster Recovery Certified Planner (DRCP) certification 6

COURSE CONTENT DAY 2 Identify the Impacts to Business Due to a Disaster Understand BIA, RPO and RTO concepts Differentiate between technology and business recovery Outline BIA process in IT DR planning Identify critical business functions and IT applications Quantify the financial and non-financial impact of an outage Determine IT outage threshold and set recovery priorities Identify inter-dependencies of business and IT functions Identify Technical Requirements Able to identify data backup and data protection recovery strategies Set consideration for strategy selection for various hardware platforms Walkthrough and understand the use of data protection and recovery strategy Understand cost benefit versus data availability and lower RPO Develop DR Strategies Identify and evaluate alternate site DR strategy Appreciate factors and new technology impact to DR planning Analyse and select the appropriate alternate site DR strategy Formulate an enterprise-wide DR strategy Select DR Services Understand the selection process for DR strategy Establish the considerations for DR strategy selection Confirm the provision of basic or mandatory resources Determine the value added and support provisions from providers Setup and Evaluate the Request for Proposal Recognize the Request for Proposal (RFP) process Setup the evaluation criteria and process Understand the RFP document format and structure Define the key contractual requirement and content of the RFP document Completion of Day 1 and 2 course content would lead participants to the Disaster Recovery Certified Specialist (DRCS) certification 7

COURSEwarE and description Day 1 2 3 Handbook Competency Level DRP-200 IT DRP Planner KNOW DRP-300 IT DRP Implementer DO Disaster Recovery Certified Specialist (DRCS) QUALIFYING FOR CERTIFICATION The Disaster Recovery Certified Specialist (DRCS) certification is designed for middle management, department representatives, business unit coordinators, Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery managers and planners. Candidates will be imparted with essential skills and knowledge of business impact analysis, risk analysis, testing and exercising, and keeping DR plans current. Candidates will also be introduced to the key concepts of developing business continuity and disaster recovery strategies, design and implementation of BC plans, preparing and conducting awareness and training programs. 8

Pre-Requisite Course DRCS applicants are required to complete and pass the qualifying DRCS examination attached to the DRP-300 IT Disaster Recovery Implementer course. Application Processing Fees Applicants who would like to apply for the DRCS certification needs to furnish BCM Institute with the DRCS certification application fees of SGD100.This can be paid via Paypal, AMEX, Cheque (drawn from a Singapore bank), Telegraphic Transfer, Bank Transfer or Cash. Application Process Once BCM Institute Certification Department has ascertain that they have received the complete DRCS application form and processing fees, application would be sent to an independent review board that would assess the applicants eligiblilty for the certification applied for. The process may take about 4 8 weeks before an applicant is awarded the relevant certification. Relevant Experience DRCS applicants should have at least 1 year of IT Disaster Recovery (IT DR) professional experience. They should be able to demonstrate this experience via an application form that would allow them to showcase at least 3 of the BCM BoK. The experience should be backed by 2 referees that should be the applicant s colleagues (not subordinate), clients or superiors. Candidates who lack the pre requisite 1 year s experience may opt to apply for planner certification (DRCP). Qualifying examination The qualifying DRCS examination done on the last day of a DRP-300 course is a half day 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) electronic based examination. The examination which lasts for 2.5 hours would need candidates to achieve a 75% passing grade. 9
