Transfer Information UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS College of Engineering The College of Engineering accepts Sophomore and Junior-level transfers, with a few exceptions. At this time, Sophomore-level transfers cannot be accommodated in several highly requested majors, including Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Junior transfer evaluations are based on college performance. Students who will transfer with less than junior standing in college are evaluated based primarily on the following criteria: grades in college, courses in college, high school academics, ACT or SAT scores and essays. Sophomore transfer admission preference will be given to students who would have been admitted as freshmen applicants. Qualified students are invited to apply for transfer admission to the College of Engineering. Most community colleges and four-year colleges offer transferable coursework which permit a student to substantially complete the first four semesters of engineering undergraduate study in preparation for transfer. Admission has been very competitive over the last several years for the Aerospace, Civil and Mechanical majors. Because of recent trends in freshman applications, it is expected that majors like Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering might also become more competitive in the near future. The college holds all applications and reviews them together for the majors listed above once the application deadline has passed. Based on the quality of the applicant pool, admission may only be offered to a select number of students who have GPAs above the listed minimum guidelines. Some applicants may be offered admission into an alternate program of study in Engineering. If you have applied to one of these competitive majors, you should list alternate majors on our campus in which you have interest in your application. You may discuss specific interests in your essay. Much of the coursework required for the first four semesters of the various engineering programs is similar and the transfer requirements are listed below in red italics. Transfer course information is available at the following website: https://www.transferology.com To be considered for admission, applicants must demonstrate mastery of subject matter by earning a minimum of a 3.00 grade point average (GPA) (A=4.00) in the required technical subjects listed in red italics for each of the programs of study listed, except those courses satisfying the Composition I requirement, as well as a minimum 3.00 (A=4.00) cumulative GPA for all transfer coursework completed. Applicants with the minimum transfer GPA criteria will be considered for admission to one of the College of Engineering programs, but admission to specific competitive majors is NOT guaranteed, depending on the number of seats available. In addition to the required coursework necessary for transfer below, the College of Engineering strongly recommends that both Sophomore and Junior-level transfer applicants enhance their admissibility and make progress toward degree completion by completing other courses required by their desired Program of Study. For complete listings of the graduation requirements for each program, see Undergraduate Programs of Study at the following web site: http://www.admissions.illinois.edu/academics/majors_alpha.html. Please note that the following Programs of Study in the College of Engineering require only one semester of General Chemistry: Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, General Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science and Nuclear Engineering. For Mechanical Engineering, the second chemistry course is not strictly required, but it is one of two possible options to fulfill the Science Elective requirement. All other majors require two semesters of general chemistry. of a B grade in the courses listed in each of the following majors and a minimum of a 3.00 (A=4.00) cumulative GPA for all transfer coursework completed. Applicants who meet the minimum GPA criteria will be considered for admission to one of the College of Engineering programs, but admission to specific competitive majors is NOT - 1 -
