APPLICATION PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE CONDITIONS OF ADMISSION TO THE BACHELOR S DEGREE COURSE IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT VERSION OF 10 NOVEMBER 2015 This document makes reference to the following legal and regulatory documents: The Federal Ordinance on to Universities of Applied Sciences, of 2 September 2005 Regulation governing admissions to Bachelor s degree courses at the HES-SO, of 11 December 2014 Candidates who have been excluded on the basis of definitive failure and/or on disciplinary grounds from the HES-SO Hospitality Management, Business Administration, urism, or International Business Management degree programmes, may not be admitted to the Hospitality Management degree programme for a period of five years. For the EHL these conditions of admission apply as follows: The entrance examination is compulsory for all candidates except holders of the Swiss Federal Vocational Baccalaureate (maturité professionnelle) with a Swiss Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the field (cf. point 1 of the table on p. 2), and comprises the following: Numeracy test Logic test Short-term memory test Hospitality professions aptitude test Two interviews For more detailed information about the selection procedure and the entrance examination, please see the website www.ehl.edu ( Apply section). Prior work experience Candidates must prove they have gained prior work experience of at least one year. Page 1/5
Required linguistic knowledge: For the French-medium provision, candidates must have excellent knowledge of French (Diplôme Supérieur Langue et Culture Françaises from the Alliance française or DALF level C1) and good knowledge of English (TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language - 550 points, TOEFL ibt 80 points, CAE grade C or IELTS academic module 6 points). For the English-medium provision, candidates must have excellent knowledge of English (TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language - 600 points, TOEFL ibt 100 points, CAE grade B or IELTS academic module 7 points). They must have good knowledge of another language, which may be their native language. Certificates confirming their language skills must be submitted before the start of the prior work experience and the specified admission periods. Candidates who have undertaken secondary-level studies (minimum 6 years) in the foreign language (French or English) do not need to submit a certificate. These relate to the most common access routes 1. The main objective of these conditions is to ensure that candidates are on the right course for them and confirm their aptitude to complete their chosen course successfully. A. Swiss Baccalaureate (maturité gymnasiale) + Swiss Federal Vocational Baccalaureate with another VET, or Swiss Baccalaureate without VET in the field, or Specialised Baccalaureate Holders of a Swiss Baccalaureate who have failed definitively in related university courses are not eligible for admission within 2 years of exmatriculation from the previous university. With regard to the old framework study plan, the 60 ECTS equivalence is retained. 7. Federal Diploma of Higher Education No Admissible if the candidate has a Federal Diploma of Higher Education related to hotel management. 2 Holders of the Swiss hotel management and catering obtained in accordance with the new framework study plan are in particular exempt from the practical internship during Semester 4. Technician certificate (BTS) with specialisation in the subjects covered by the relevant degree programme 2nd year Not required Equivalence of 60 ECTS 10. Technician certificate (BTS) without specialisation in the subjects covered by the relevant degree programme C. Other qualifications In 11. Foreign qualification equivalent to a Swiss Baccalaureate (maturité gymnasiale) In line with the HES-SO Rector s Office decision: See this document. 12. Other foreign vocational qualifications The Faculty Council shall decide on the validity of foreign vocational qualifications. Any application from a candidate from a country not listed in the register shall be decided upon by the Faculty Council. Page 4/5
13. by portfolio cf. remarks Procedure reserved for candidates aged at least 25 years. The Regulation of 15 July 2014, concerning admission by portfolio to the HES-SO Bachelor s degree programmes, applies. Final provisions These application provisions were adopted by decision R 2014/29/100 of the Rector s Office of the HES-SO at the meeting of 30 September 2014. They are effective as from 30 September 2014. They supersede the application provisions relating to the conditions of admission to the Bachelor s degree course in Hospitality Management of 20 August 2013. These application provisions were modified by decision 2015/31/85 of the Rector s Office of the HES-SO at the meeting of 14 September 2015. The partial revision takes immediate effect.
