Looking ahead the Data Supply Chain will become the key enabler of big outcomes Data ecosystems are complex and littered with data silos, limiting the value that organizations can get out of their own data by making it difficult to access. To truly unlock that value, companies must start treating data more as a supply chain, enabling it to flow easily and usefully through the entire organization - and eventually throughout each company s ecosystem of partners too. We believe Big Data is a key enabler for creating Big Outcomes in health Across multiple engagements with clients, there are five core lessons learned that help drive focus, execution and value from Big Data. 1 Big Data in itself will not provide business value. Big Analytics is crucial to leverage data effectively with the purpose of delivering Big Outcomes. 2 Time has moved beyond simply considering private data. Industry leaders are combining private, paid and public data to create better patient outcomes. 3 With the Internet of Things both volume, velocity and variety of data will explode making the gap between high and low performers even bigger. The ability to successfully master growing data volumes will be the key differentiating factor driving patient outcomes. 4 Health organizations know data is important, but they have not yet made it flow through the organization. To create a data supply chain, you must think of a different infrastructure and data governance in order to be sure you have the ability to treat it in the right way. 5 The ability to successfully combine health, social service, social networking and commercial data is a key enabler for moving focus from treatment to prevention.
