SharePoint Tools Create a Custom List Show Page Editing Tool Bar (If your Editing toolbar is not displaying) 1. Click the Site Actions dropdown arrow and select Show Page Editing Toolbar. 2. Click Edit Page to begin changing the page layout Your toolbar will change, with this Version is Checked Out and a Status: Only you can see and modify this page. You are now in Edit mode and can make changes to the front page of the website. Customize Lists Create a Custom List These instructions will show you how to create a list using the default setting for a link list. 1. 2. Click Create When highlighting the links list under Tracking you can see what the default list will do. 3. Under Tracking, click Links 4. Type Name: (Example:Resource List) 5. Type a Description for users to have a better understanding of the resources. 6. Under Navigation decide if you want the list to display when users come to your website in the left navigtation bar. Default is Yes Leave default 7. Click Create Note: The title on the very top left will always remain the same. (Example: SPTraining L1) There are three ways to return to the department front page. 8. Using the New List as a Web Part Microsoft SharePoint 2007 Adding a Web Part (If your Editing toolbar is not displaying follow the above instructions on Show Page Editing Toolbar, pg. 1) 1. Click Edit Page (If you ar not in Edit mode) 2. Click Page drop down, select Add Web Parts, then Browse 3. Scroll to the right and down to view the Add Web Parts tools. 4. 7. Click on the custom list you created (Example: Resource List) 8. Click the drop down arrow and select the zone to place the web part in (Example: Middle Right Zone) Note: Filters are also a great way to reduce the length of the list in the Search Results. 9. Click Add to return to the home page 10. Use scroll bars to navigate to the top left of the screen to view Edit tool bar and click Publish Your new web part will display for all readers. Customize a List Adding a Column 1. Click Lists link in the left navigation bar 2. 3. Click Settings drop down arrow and select List Settings 4. Scroll down to Columns, click Create a Column link 5. Under Name and Type, type the title of the column Example: Description 6. 7. Under Additional Column Settings use the default. 8. Click OK 9. Go to Columns and scroll down a little further to Views. Settings for the new column: 10. Under Views, click All Links Set how the column will be viewed: Scroll down to the Column settings (Example: User only wants the Title with edit menu and Description to display in the Resource List) 11. Check the Display box for URL (with edit menu) and Description (Only). Change position to 1 for URL (with edit menu) 12.
