Network Card / Internet Access Home Basic/Home Premium / Business / Ultimate Windows 7: Home Basic/Home Premium/Professional/Enterprise/ Ultimate Windows 8: Core/Pro/Enterprise Internet access is required. This is required to view the noise plots on Google Earth or ArcGIS. ATS Mapper also requires internet access to verify the Product Activation Code. 4 About ATS Mapper ATS Mapper is a software application to create ATS (Alberta Township System) map overlay files in KML (Keyhole Markup Language) format. ATS Mapper provides full coverage of Alberta, Canada. The user simple enters the ATS section, township, range and meridian, and the desired folder location for the KML file. The KML file is georeferenced to their location on a GIS application such as Google Earth or ArcGIS. The KML file created has the format S1-T1-R1-M4.kml, where S is the section, T is the township, R is the range and M is the meridian. The KML overlay includes the section outline, quarter and LSD divisions and geographic points with coordinates for the four corners, the middle east and west coordinates and the middle north and south coordinates, if applicable. The user can turn each item off or on in Google Earth by checking the box next to each item. There are a total of 258,702 sections in Alberta. A KML overlay can be created for any these sections with ATS Mapper. 5 Installation And Uninstallation To install the ATS Mapper download and open the ATSMapperInstallerVer1.0_Win32.exe file. This is a standard installer application which will automatically start up and guide you through the installation process. The installer will prompt you for the installation path, and suggest the preferred install path at C:\MyPrograms\ATSMapper1.0_Win32. If you select this path it will automatically create new folders, if required, and install the application at this selected location. 5.1 Installer Window ATS Mapper, User Guide, Version 1.01 www.atsmapper.com Page 8 of 24

After installation you will see an ATS Mapper shortcut on your PC Desktop. You can start up the ATS Mapper application by double clicking on this shortcut. To pin the short cut to your Taskbar or Start Menu, right click on the ATS Mapper shortcut and select Pin to Taskbar or Pin to Start Menu. 5.2 Pin to Taskbar or Start Menu If you installed the application on the C:\Program Files(x86) or other folder locations that prevent write access, you may get the following error filename.. could not be opened: [Errno 13] Permission denied:.. when you start the application. If you get this error you can unlock the folder by setting the application to run in administrator mode by clicking on the Privilege to Run this program as an administrator. To do this right click on the ATS Mapper shortcut, select Properties, click the Compatibility tab then select the box next to Run this program as an administrator, as per the following screenshots. 5.3 Run As Administrator ATS Mapper, User Guide, Version 1.01 www.atsmapper.com Page 9 of 24

You can also right click on the ATS Mapper shortcut and select Run As Administrator, though you will need to do this each time you start up the application. 5.4 Uninstallation To uninstall ATS Mapper from your computer, simply use a file manager tool such as Windows Explorer to locate the folder where ATS Mapper was installed. Delete the installed folder and all subfolder and files within that folder to remove the product from your computer. Delete any ATS Mapper shortcuts you may have on your Desktop or other locations on your computer. Unpin any ATS Mapper start icons that may be on the taskbar. Go to the Start menu and select Remove from this list for any ATS Mapper start icons that may be in the Start Menu. ATS Mapper does not put any information in the computer registry, so there is nothing to clean up in the registry. 6 Quick Start Instructions ATS Mapper requires internet access to download the ATS KML map files. Before you begin, ensure that you have internet access. When you start ATS Mapper you will see the ATS section information for a default project. The start up window will open with the ATS>Settings panel. It will open maximized to your screen resolution. You can click the minimize button to get a smaller sized panel. The ATS legal land description information must be entered as integers (do not include decimal points). If decimals or incorrect section information is entered the background will turn red. The KML Overlay File Folder Location setting is also located on the ATS>Settings Panel. To set the folder location where you want the KML files to be located click on the Browse button. This will open a folder selection menu. To save the settings click the File>Save As menu and select a folder and file name to save the project. The project can be saved as an amp (ATS Mapper Project). To create the KML map overlay file click the Run>Create KML File menu. The Progress Panel will open up and show the results as the KML file is being created. Once complete it will indicate the path to the KML file, and process duration. This typically only takes a few seconds. You can then view the KML file in a GIS program such as Google Earth or ArcGIS. Double click on the KML files and they will open up in Google Earth (or your default GIS application) and you can view the georeferenced ATS map overlays there. The following screenshot shows some overlay files. 8.1 KML Overlay File Listing If you have Google Earth as your default GIS application, if you double click on either KML file it will automatically open in Google Earth. You should turn off the Google Earth setting called 3D View>Terrain>ATS Exaggeration, or set it to the lowest value, as per the following screenshot. With ATS Exaggeration feature turned off the contour borders will appear as straight lines, otherwise they will follow the terrain ATS levels. ATS Mapper, User Guide, Version 1.01 www.atsmapper.com Page 21 of 24

Set Terrain>ATS Exaggeration to lowest value to eliminate map distortion in Google Earth. 8.2 Google Earth Settings On opening the KML overlay file the section border will show in blue, the quarter section divisions in yellow and the LSD divisions in orange. The geographic points for the section are displayed as white circles with black dots in them. Any of these items can be set to not display in the Places section in Google Earth. The line and label colors can also all be changed in Google Earth. The following is a sample georeferenced contour lines plot on Google Earth.
