The only way to know for sure is to carry out a CCTV inspection and jet clean the pipes, removing any blockages, and enabling a clear view of the section that is blocked. Using a camera our technicians can visually locate and assess any damage/blockages to your system. If there is no structural damage, relining would not be applicable and with the blockage freed the job and problem would be complete. If structural damage was the cause of the blockage, relining would be a suitable resolution.

Case study: Milan Apartments Milan, which was completed in Mid-2008, offers exclusive holiday and permanent residence living, with extensive resort-like facilities including a heated lagoon and lap pools. Location Milan Apartments, Main Beach, Queensland Work Performed 50mm Pool Pipe Reline - of pipes that fed the lagoon pool and hot tub. The Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) Inspection The operational maintenance manager of Milan contacted Nuflow as the relaxed environment was being disturbed by leaking 50mm pipes that fed the lagoon pool, and the hot tub. Upon completion of the CCTV inspection, it was evident the problem was poorly cut and glued joints throughout the PVC Pressure Pipe. There was also mortar creating a partial blockage which would need to be cleared before being relined. The Reline We had extremely limited access to the pipes, as they were located in an underground rain water holding tank and also the complexity of the pipe lay out from the pool and hot tub. This restricted our options for repairing the issues, and restricted the method of relining to a process unique only to Nuflow. On the day of works, the tank was partially emptied and an installation team member entered the tank using standard confined space procedures. The single point access liners had been custom made and tested the previous day, and after being infused with an epoxy designed to deal with chlorine and pool chemicals, they were inserted into the line. Less than 3 hours later, the process was reversed, removing the insertion bladders leaving a pipe that was better than new. Nuflow installed the liners in the morning and pulled them out by mid afternoon the same day. Having minimum impact on the use of the pool and hot tub. Alternatives With 1 unit per level, its 19 levels host an exclusive clientele. The guests take priority, so the alternative solution of closing down the pools and excavating to replace the pipes, was never an option; due to the location, disruption to guests, lengthy delays and costs involved. Case study: Jezzine Army Barracks Used for defence purposes since the late 1800 s, Jezzine is now a Museum. While renovating the buildings, it was discovered that infiltration and exfiltration was occurring in all of the sewer lines. Location Jezzine Army Barracks, Townsville, Queensland PIPE REPAIR AND RELINING SOLUTIONS Work Performed 70m of 150mm Earthenware Sewer, 60m of 100mm Earthenware Sewer and 5m of 100mm copper pipe Sewer. CCTV & Relining The drain camera inspection showed that all the earthenware pipes were either cracked or displaced, with a large amount of infiltration and exfiltration. The sewer was causing an environmental issue with sewerage leaching into the surrounding ground water and conversely salty groundwater infiltrating back into the pipe, adding to the cost of sewerage treatment. All the pipes required cleaning by high pressure jet, before final measurements and installation of liners could commence. The three man crew installed separate liners into junctions, traps and around multiple bends over a period of four days, completing the reline of the entire sewer. Reline Versus Dig? Due to its historical significance, the alternative of excavating and replacing the damaged pipes was not an option. This would have caused lengthy delays to the redevelopment plans and site works, as it could have involved archaeological monitoring of any disturbed area of ground of this heritage listed site. Due to the location of the pipes and where they ran, many of the floor surfaces would have had to be removed. Tens of thousands of dollars were saved over a traditional dig and replace, under the assumption that the heritage allowed for digging at all. Case study: Overlea St, Nudgee The sewer line of a brand new house was completely broken, allowing gravel to enter the pipe and the void was undermining the structural integrity of the floor slab. Location Nudgee, Brisbane Work Performed Reline 1m of 100mm PVC sewer line that was filled with gravel due to a serious break. Benefits This sewer line was less than three months old, and ran under a brand new house that had only recently become occupied by the owners. The PVC section causing all the problems was completely broken away leaving over half a meter of void space with no pipe. This caused gravel to fill the line and undermine the house slab. Nuflow was able to reline without any excavation and disruption, and have the sewer unblocked and working properly in less than a days work. The Sewer Reline After carrying out the initial CCTV inspection, it was clear that we would need to spend some time removing some gravel from the line. There were eight bends and five junctions to navigate in the 30m between our two access points. Eventually, after cleaning the line, we were able to locate the problem as broken section of pipe approximately 11m from an Inspection Opening. We custom made a liner for this job while on site and inserted it carefully using our drain cameras. Two hours later the liner was cured and the bladder removed. Alternatives An alternative to the relining of this project would have been to excavate the area and replace the pipe. This would have involved removing the flooring surfaces and digging up the concrete house slab to access the pipe which was nearly a meter deep. These works would have caused major disruption to the occupants of this brand new house, length delays and resulted in significant reinstatements costs. Case study: Zillmere Station A busy train route was under threat as the tracks ran over a main sewer line that was in extremely poor condition. Closing the tracks would have resulted in major disruptions to commuters. Location Zillmere Train Station, Brisbane PIPE REPAIR AND RELINING SOLUTIONS Work Performed Cleared and Relined 41m of 150mm Earthenware and PVC sewer line which was badly broken and had seriously displaced joins for Queensland Rail. Benefits The pipe ran from one manhole, underneath two sets of railway tracks, to another manhole located in a car park. It was several meters deep and excavation would have meant closing down the train lines that run from Brisbane to the Gold Coast. The cost of diverting the commuters alone would have outweighed the cost of relining. Nuflow was able to reline the entire length, without any excavation and disruption to the train system. Commuters using the station amenities had no idea anything was happening. The Sewer Reline After carrying out the initial CCTV inspection, we were able to verify the problem as being several badly displaced joins and cracks with roots throughout. Almost every join along the 41m of sewer line showed various degrees of these problems. Using our latest resin technologies, and Hot Water Cure Systems, the line was structurally relined in less than 24 hours using a 3 man crew. The whole time during the works, the railway line and station was in operation. Alternatives An alternative to the relining of this project would have been to excavate the area and replace the pipe. This would have involved closing the railway lines and car park. These works would have caused major disruption to train commuters. With over 34 years experience in the plumbing and pipeline industry, Ed Ahern has successfully owned and operated almost 20 companies.
