4 College of Education

Introduction The field of education is one that is in a state of constant flux and innovation, especially within the South African context. This is why Unisa s College of Education places such faith in its short learning programmes (SLPs). These short courses, as they are more commonly known, provide an outlet for the college that lets it present tailored, up-to-date academic offerings to its students, whether they are seasoned practitioners in the field or simply interested in starting a new career. Our Centre for Community Training and Development provides courses that are specifically designed to provide our students with the skills necessary to uplift and empower communities. The courses are diverse and cover subjects such as Early Childhood Development, Environmental Education and Counselling, to name a few. Several courses also focus on specific areas in which South Africa has a poor record in educating its learners. We strive to combat these problem areas by offering courses that will help practitioners in teaching subjects like Mathematics, Language and Literacy, and Life Skills. We are proud to present our short learning programmes to you and we welcome you as partners in addressing issues in society as students of our short learning programmes.
