RBackup Server Installation and Setup Instructions and Worksheet Fill out the Installation Worksheet. (In this document) Read and comply with Installation Prerequisites (In this document) Review the Partner s invoice, noting all Features and PlugIns to be installed. Make sure your target computer (or VM) has enough resources to run the programs, and has a connection to the Internet. RBackup runs on all Windows operating systems, 32 bits and 64 bits, XP or greater, 4GB RAM and greater. Log in as Administrator. Verify permissions set properly for the Data drive. It needs full control. Make sure your storage drive is attached and accessible from Windows. External Firewall Open the Command Port and Data Ports for TCP traffic. Router - Map the Command Port and Data Ports to the target computer. Software Firewall and Antivirus software Allow the following applications to run and access the Internet: rbs.exe, rbsmgr.exe, enotify.exe, rbtester.exe, rbsreg.exe, rbrestorecontrol.exe, rbregister.exe, rbsupdate.exe, helpdesk.exe. Run the RBackup Server installer package. Reboot if required. The RBS Server should auto-start. If it doesn t, start it using the desktop shortcut. Check to make sure a shortcut to rbsmgr.exe is in the Startup Folder. If you will use an MS SQL database on the Server, install MS SQL, then run the SQL Conversion from the Tools menu of the RBS Manager. If you will use a Code Signing Certificate, install it now. If you will use an SSL Certificate, install it now. (Needed only for E-Commerce PlugIn) Menu Tools : Properties : RBS Preferences Command port correct? Does it match the Command Port set up in your router and firewall? (recommend 2774)
Server root folder correct? (End users backup data will be stored here. Stop the RBS Server to change this. To stop the RBS Server, click the Running button.) Data ports correct? Does the range of ports match the Data Port range set up in your router and firewall? (allow 3 ports per simultaneous connection. Recommend 100 ports) Client Installation Build folder correct? Tools: Manager Preferences Log folder correct? (Stop the RBS Server to change) Log level correct? Event Logging correct? Auto-Start mode correct? Services Mode correct? Automatic Web updates correct? RBS Registrar selected correctly? (select this if you want to activate the Registration Wizard) Auto-Start HelpDesk Repeater (if installed) Tools: Test RBS Server This will start the RBS Server Tester and will fill in the blanks with the correct settings to test your RBS Server. For the Server Address, the tester will select the Server s public IP address. Note: This test WILL NOT WORK if you have not set up proper access rules through your router and firewall that allow access to your RBS Server from outside your network. The Server Tester tests connections to your RBS Server from OUTSIDE your network. If you have set up your router and firewall correctly to pass connections to the RBS Server from outside your network the test will show all green checkmarks. It s all good if you get green checkmarks after Server Function and Router/Firewall. If you get a red X for Router/Firewall, troubleshoot your router, firewall, and software antivirus. A red X for Server Function usually means the data drive is not attached or permissions are set wrong for the data drive.
If you must operate your RBS Server without access to the Internet, you can do so. You just can t use the built-in Server Tester function, since that always requires an Internet connection. To test your RBS Server without access to the Internet, create a Client installer with the PRIVATE IP ADDRESS of the RBS Server in the Server URL field. Install the Client and select its Test Connection option. This will test access from INSIDE the network only. Tools : Customize Client Installer : Basic Settings Tab Set Server s IP Address, Domain Name, or DNS name. (Recommend: Check Use Server Locator. It is a BAD IDEA to use an IP address here. Use a DNS name here or the Server Locator.) Set Port Number. Change Override Password. Tools : Customize Client Installer : Backup Sets Tab Backup Type/Scheduler Subtab Set Backup Type. Set Backup Location If BitBackup, set the BitBackup Threshold Settings. (recommend DEFAULT) Set a schedule. If end users will be outside the Server s LAN, test outside the Server s LAN. Install the Client. Verify that customizations have been done and the install is clean. Select Test Connection Verify all green checkmarks. Fix any exceptions. Tools : Email Notifications SMTP server set? Email Notifications enabled? Email Notifications Branded?

Installation Prerequisites RBS Server The prerequisites for installing the RBS Server are: Your target computer must be running a Windows operating system with a web browser and be able to browse the Internet. Your firewall and router must be configured as follows: * Ports 2774 and 2773 mapped to your Server, TCP inbound unsolicited traffic * Ports 29001 through 29xxx mapped to your Server, TCP inbound solicited traffic The number of high ports (29000+) depends on the number of simultaneous connections you expect to your Server. We recommend 3 ports per connection for maximum efficiency. A 100- Credit Server can expect 10 simultaneous users, so it should have approximately 30 ports. Typically, turn OFF the Windows firewall. For more information, see http://www.remote-backup.com/support/ Web Manager & E-Commerce PlugIns * Console login with Administrator rights * RBS Server v11 or greater installed and tested * Internet Information Server v6 or greater, installed and working * ASP.NET enabled * MS.NET framework versions 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 * (If the RBS Server uses the SQL Server PlugIn) SQL Management Studio Express installed * Router and Firewall setup complete. * Code Signing Certificate (if desired) from a Certificate Authority like GoDaddy or Verisign (more info here) E-Commerce PlugIn Only * SSL Certificate installed (if desired) from a Certificate Authority like GoDaddy or Verisign (more info here) * Credit Card Merchant Account Activated, if you will accept credit cards * Payment Gateway configured and set up (authorize.net or Payflow Pro), if you will accept credit cards * PayPal Business Account set up for Express Checkout, if you will use PayPal
Completed Document To be copied into the Partner s installation ticket. The installation of your RBS software has been completed. This email contains our Installation Worksheet, which you should save. It contains important information that you may need later to log in and further brand and customize your software. Before your installation was scheduled we sent you a list of prerequisites required for a completed installation, which are your responsibility. We asked that you have these prerequisites in place before scheduling your installation. If any of the prerequisites were not done prior to installation, some installation tasks may not have been completed, and your software may not operate correctly until you complete the prerequisites. If we have been unable to complete any part of this installation the reasons are noted on the worksheet. We have already discussed any non-completed items with you, and you have agreed that you will complete them by yourself, or that you will contact us when you are ready for us to complete them. Non-completed items might include the installation of SSL certificates or Code Signing certificates, or the final setup of your email SMTP server, or testing your Client software from outside your network if changes to your router or firewall are required and cannot be done by the time installation is completed. RBS basic installation service may not include branding and customization. You can complete that yourself using instructions in the Help files for your software. All the documentation can be found at the following link. http://www.remote-backup.com/showme/ Thank you for your purchase. Please let us know if we can help you further.
