Collaborative Real-Time Information Sharing Platform NPL s CRISP Platform, combined with the Spin Client Palette and Beam Application Sharing Server, work together to create the world s most advanced video collaboration and information-sharing communication platform available today. With twenty-one patents issued and forty pending, NPL offerings are based on four sectors of IP: layered architecture, low latency protocol, pervasive computing, and perceptual optimization. Together, these elements create a highly interactive environment that allows users to enjoy a quick, seamless and rich collaborative experience. Industry Applications NPL s CRISP creates a collaboration and videoconferencing base for applications across industries. A sampling of such applications includes: Customer service: electronic face to face customer support Healthcare/telemedicine: medical imaging and evaluation by collaboration, patient consultation Education: distance learning, global classrooms, home-based instruction Creative production and design: video production, publishing, animation, graphic design Entertainment: immersive viewing, viewer collaboration Hardware/devices: white label applications for mobile devices, smart TVs, and set-top boxes Retail: online purchasing, product support and customer service Sports: fantasy leagues play, game interactivity Integrations NPL offers two ways to integrate its technology. Developers can integrate Spin into their own applications, reskinning the application to provide feature-rich, branded collaboration tools tailored to the exact needs of specific audiences or markets. Or developers can tie into the code base of the Spin platform, augmenting it to create tailored collaboration apps. NPL s CRISP Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) help developers ensure seamless software integrations, including links to social media, superior application performance, and a heightened Quality of Experience for users.
Innovation What differentiates Spin from competitive approaches to mobile and web video communications? Layered Architecture. Multiple distributed network streams are independently delivered in separate layers, then composed and synchronized as one single-layered experience. Because Spin renders the base layer stream (media, documents, applications) independently from collaboration layers (drawing, comments, gestures, virtual experiences), the original media is delivered without altering its content, thus protecting the originator s intellectual property and ensuring compliance with DRM (Digital Rights Management) guidelines. Spin Palette Layers Create Flexibility NPL s Client Palette Layers are aware of each other and respond accordingly. Example: zoom one and the others zoom too. Each layer is rendered separately, creating independent content presentation and enabling DRM and content security. The base layer supports video streams, content media and application sharing. Because of NPL s cloud architecture, processing for specific computing- or bandwidth-intensive layers can are executed in the CRISP cloud to maximize responsiveness and QOS. Low-latency communications. A patented and proprietary networking protocol developed by NPL provide low-latency delivery for Spin products. Using multiple parallel channels, the network protocol intelligently sets priorities for delivering different data streams. While graphical information like animations and drawings are sent through reliable queues, video and audio are sent through unreliable queues to speed delivery of packets. Aggressive congestion control algorithms in the network protocol respond to capacity issues far more rapidly than TCP, allowing faster recovery to full data transmission. Real-time collaboration. NPL brings true collaboration capabilities that go far beyond simple screen or file-sharing. With Spin, establishing multi-party collaboration is as simple as dragging and dropping contact names or icons onto the Spin canvas, or by selecting contacts from communities or friends in social media applications such as Facebook Beam multi-user cloud application sharing platform. Leverages NPL s proprietary low-latency network protocol to stream applications from the cloud to the Beam-enabled device or embedded application. With Beam, enterprise customers can deploy vitalized applications that run from the cloud to dramatically simplify desktop software and mobile application deployment for Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) employees, remote workers, contractors, and partners. Beam can also be deployed within Spin or a white label app, so the user can collaborate on various applications during a video conference. Partnership Model NPL licenses its technology and provides subscription-based access to the CRISP network operating environment. NPL also provides custom nonrecurring engineering services to partners, integrators and customers. Developers can take advantage of white-label client applications for ios, with support for Android devices and for HTML5 (coming soon). Additionally, NPL provides plug-ins for set-top boxes, smart TVs, and other devices.
